  • In Memory of Fellow Practitioner Zou Guirong

Zou Guirong was from Xinbin, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. She was about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, a little plump, and looked very gentle and sweet. She had big eyes that shone in her round face and she smiled gently all the time. Along with her innocent face, her short, straight hair made her look like a student and not a woman in her 30s. Zou Guirong had a happy family. Her husband, who was her former classmate, was a nice person. Her son was about 11 or 12 years old. One time, I teased her and said that others who didn't know them might mistake them as being big sister and younger brother, rather than being mother and son. I said I would probably make the same mistake, and she laughed about that.

I remember the first time I met Zou Guirong; it was at the Masanjia Labor Camp in February or March of 2000. I was imprisoned there since 1999, and she was one of the practitioners transferred by Fushun Labor Camp. We were first put in the same group, and then about a dozen of us who were steadfast in our belief were detained in the Extreme Control Group. Watched by drug addict criminals, we were forced to work like slaves, making crafts, unloading coal trucks, and gluing foul-smelling plastic covers (for agricultural greenhouses), which were piled several meters high. We had to work over 20 hours a day. Because of our belief in Falun Gong, we were berated and beaten by the guards and inmates alike. We suffered from bodily injury and mental attacks. About one month later, we were returned to our original group. Because the guards did not reach their goal of "transforming" us, an even more intense round of persecution began.

Zou Guirong told me that when she was at Fushun Labor Camp, she tried to do the standing exercises, but the guards beat her to the ground to stop her from practicing. She stood up and continued the exercises, and she was beaten down again. She did not remember how many times she stood up and was beaten down. As long as she was still alive, she would stand up and continue doing the exercises. Finally, the guards gave in and let her do the exercises whenever she wanted. The whole Fushun Labor Camp ended up giving in to her, and finally sent her to the Masanjia Labor Camp.

Zou Guirong, the youngest child in her family, was doted on by her parents, as they had her when they were getting older. When she was born, her oldest sister was more than 20 years older than her. It is easy to imagine how well her entire family had taken care of her. Being kind and tolerant was in her nature; she was not stubborn even though the family spoiled her. Zou Guirong was caring, broad-minded, sincere, honest, pure, and strong. She told me a story of hers, about how she almost drowned when she was little. She said her body started to sink while struggling, but a power in the water pushed her onto the shore in what seemed like a hopeless situation. She was saved, and from then on, she felt the existence of divine beings. When she started practicing Falun Gong, she realized that Falun Gong was what she had been waiting for.

The wicked guards at Masanjia stripped such a kind woman, poured cold water on her, and four or five female guards shocked her with electric batons, and said, "This is fun." However, Zou Guirong did not surrender to the torture, which lasted for more than four hours. All of the inhumane torture was conducted in secret. I witnessed that her body was covered with injures, black and purple all over. Her face lost its roundness because she was forced to stay awake for extended periods of time. She was weak and exhausted, and sometimes fell into a listless state.

The two photos on the website are in sharp contrast to one another. I never saw Zou Guirong wearing glasses when we were together; her smiling face was so pure and innocent. In touching the familiar face on the computer screen gently, tears blurred my vision again and again. I asked her, "What was in your mind during the torture?" She said, "I just thought that Teacher was with me; I am afraid of nothing! I gritted my teeth and held on to the very end!"

In a staged inspection at Masanjia, those former practitioners that gave up Falun Gong due to the pressure said that violence never occurred at Masanjia. Among the crowd, Zou Guirong stood up and said, "This is not true ..." Before she had the chance to finish her sentence, the guards and collaborators jumped on her and beat her madly, and proceeded to drag her out of the meeting hall. The Focal Point Interview crew from the China Central Television (CCTV), staff from Liaoning Television, and people from other media recorded the scene.

After the meeting, the police beat Zou Guirong severely, then gave her a razor and tried to force her to kill herself. She refused with righteous thoughts. She told them sternly, "The teachings of Falun Gong do not allow killing; suicide is also killing, and I will not commit suicide." Several articles on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website exposed the evil persecution against Ms. Zou. After I was released from the camp, I read her article, "My Experiences at Masanjia Labor Re-education Camp." I remember that the last sentence of her article was, "The fire of truth cannot be put out," which exemplifies Zou Guirong's tenacious and strong character.

The police at Masanjia persecuted Ms. Zou in the following way: they brought in her husband and tried to force him to divorce her, but her husband refused. Back when Ms. Zou and her husband were dating, Zou Guirong did not care about the poor financial state of her fiance's family. She valued his high moral quality. In spite of her family's opposition, they got married. They built up their own family from nothing. They shared happiness and woes and respected each other. The police in Masanjia once again tried to force her to divorce her husband and she refused. The police arranged for them to stay in the same room for one night and wanted to change her attitude by using spousal affection, but it failed. Her husband felt sadness and grief when he saw those countless scars on her body. He knew that Falun Gong was good and he understood his wife's determined nature. Since he knew that the authorities would not let them see each other again in the future, before he left, he asked her whether she still loved him. She replied yes. Her husband asked her to give him a kiss in front of all the guards and the other prisoners. Ms. Zou took hold of his hand and kissed it. Her husband left with tears in his eyes. Later on, Ms. Zou told me that her husband understood her firm belief in Falun Gong. He felt sad that they had to be separated and he felt sad for her suffering. Ms. Zou's husband encouraged her to be strong.

Later on, I was taken to another team and separated from the team Zou Guirong was in. Intermittently, I would hear some news about her from others. In Masanjia Labor Camp, no matter whether it was day or night, people would suddenly hear miserable and desperate cries coming from someone being brutally tortured. Sometimes, elderly fellow practitioners would have a heart attack due to the brutal torture. Some people were persecuted to the point of suffering a mental collapse. Once, we had a 78-year-old practitioner in our team; she was a very kind, older woman. She was in the same team with me and I still remember her name. As for practitioners who were around 68 years of age, there were quite a few of them. Once, I looked at those fellow practitioners' family members who came from all kinds of places. I told the guard who often tortured Falun Gong practitioners, "You beat up people here. If their family members found out, they will hate you." One guard replied sternly, "They will appreciate me, the one who "transformed" her and let her go home to reunite with her family." I looked at him and said in a dignified tone, "They won't." In the face of my calm expression and simple words, that guard who had repeatedly tortured Falun Gong practitioners stared at me with anger, but could not say anything. However, the brutal persecution has never stopped and they constantly do evil deeds behind closed doors.

I remember that the evil once spread a rumor, saying that I had become insane. Even some fellow practitioners from my hometown had heard that rumor. Later on, I heard that it was because when Ms. Zou Guirong heard a collaborator reading some materials slandering Falun Gong, she stood up and snatched literature away and tore it up. Since she did it so fast, the collaborator was frightened and stood there for a while and did not know how to respond. Once the collaborator realized what had happened, she went to the police and said Ms. Zou Guirong was out of her mind. After hearing that, the police did not even ask the reason and carried out no investigation; they ordered the collaborator to drag Ms. Zou downstairs to have some unknown injections. We heard her cries of persecution and terrible suffering. She wasn't affected mentally by the injections. When I saw her again, she was still firm and in full control of her mental faculties. In contrast, I saw those guards who persecuted Ms. Zou get very angry and shout loudly, "I want to kill her! No matter what we do, she will not "transform." What should we do?" At that time, I smiled and silently said, "She is truly firm, like a diamond. She cannot be broken no matter what happens to her." I applauded her in my heart. Later on, utterly embarrassed, the Masanjia authorities sent Ms. Zou and nine other steadfast fellow practitioners away. Later, I heard that they were sent to Zhangzhi Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City. I could not imagine that I would be separated from her forever at that time.

One time, tragic cries came from downstairs. The air seemed to become frozen. Then, there was no sound at all. I heard some collaborators say that it was Ms. Zou Guirong. They pressed her down and forcefully gave her some injection, as they said she had become insane and was out of her mind. I absolutely did not believe that Zou Guirong suffered a mental collapse. I understood that her mind was very firm and resilient. It must be a plot that the evil wanted to use as an excuse to persecute her to try to make her become insane.

On July 2 and 3, 2002, during the midsummer season, around 7:00 p.m., it rained and snowed constantly for over one hour for two consecutive nights. I noticed it first and told other people in the same cell to watch silently. Standing in front of the window, looking at the rain and snowflakes, I felt a coldness. At that moment, looking at that scene, being locked in that cell, I looked at the sky and remembered a legend I had once heard, that was now becoming a reality. "A snowfall in June indicates a most outrageous wrong that occurs perhaps once in many millennia." I felt an indescribable sorrow. At that time, I did not know my fellow practitioner and close friend Ms. Zou Guirong had passed away two months before. The snowfall in June was for those thousands of Falun Gong practitioners who were persecuted to death and those who are still suffering severe and inhuman torture as Falun Gong practitioners.

Once, Ms. Zou Guirong asked another Falun Gong practitioner to write a remembrance for her in a small notebook. I was a pretty good writer, but at that time, I held her notebook and did not know what to write. I smiled and told her that I would not write anything for her. Looking at her face, which had lost its original soft shape and color, I felt pain in my heart. I have now lost the chance to write anything for her.

At that moment, I felt I could hear the music of "Plum Blossoms in the Snow" played by a Falun Gong practitioner. The sound of the flute was clear, deep and pure. It seemed to come from Heaven. I saw the smiles of deceased fellow practitioners in the plum blossoms. Everything became so outstanding and beautiful, brilliant and pure.

Practitioner Mr. Liu Jianjun from Zhangjiakou City Tortured to Near Death in Detention Center

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Jianjun from Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province was repeatedly persecuted. The authorities caused him to lose his job and forced him to work at night as a doorman in a store to make a living. On December 22, 2005, Mr. Liu Jianjun was arrested by police officers from the Nanyingfang Police Station in the Qiaoxi District of Zhangjiakou City. The Chief of the Police Station Wei Jianping and the Deputy Chief Zhang Shixiong were both directly involved. He was secured onto a Tiger Bench to be tortured. Later, he was taken to the Shisanli Detention Center. Mr. Liu Jianjun went through fifteen days of torture, and was savagely force-fed until he could not breathe. In the end, the police took him back to the computer store where he worked, and left him there while they ran away.

    (Insert two photos here)

At a little past 10:00 a.m. on December 22, 2005, officers from the Nanyingfang Police Station suddenly broke into the Dell Computer Store on Wuyi Road in Qiaodong District. Without any legal procedures, they started an illegal search and yelled at everyone to leave. At that time, Mr. Liu Jianjun had just finished work but had not gone home. He came out from the men's room and was about to exit the door, when a police officer named Wang and a driver ordered him to get into the police car. Mr. Liu Jianjun said, "You do not have any reason to order me to get into the police car." They asked, "Do you practice Falun Gong?" Mr. Liu Jianjun answered, "What does this have to do with practicing Falun Gong?" They did not know how to answer this, but pounced on Mr. Liu and dragged him into the police vehicle.

Mr. Liu Jianjun steadfastly resisted them and refused to cooperate. He struggled to get away from the car, while demanding to know, "What reason do you have to arrest me?" The police officers pushed Mr. Liu Jianjun into the car and took him to the Nanyingfang Police Station. Then they started to interrogate and torture him.

Deputy Chief Zhang Shixiong ordered Mr. Liu Jianjun to answer his questions and to take notes. Mr. Liu Jianjun said, "I will not cooperate with you, since you are fundamentally violating the law. You dismissed me from my work and stopped my income. Now I can barely make a living as a doorman at night. Today you brought me here and want to take away my livelihood. What kind of law are you following? You are doing things without reason and violating the principles of heaven. Sooner or later you will be punished!" Then Mr. Liu Jianjun started to clarify the truth to them.

At around 3:00 p.m., Chief Wei Jianping, Deputy Chief Zhang Shixiong and another police officer Wang led several hired thugs in. They locked Mr. Liu Jianjun onto the "Tiger Bench." Mr. Liu Jianjun refused to cooperate and told them that he did not violate the law. He asked them why he was being illegally detained and subjected to the "Tiger Bench". Wei, Zhang and Wang led the other thugs to physically assault him. Wei Jianping violently stomped on Mr. Liu Jianping's feet, which were already injured. Mr. Liu Jianjun called out loudly, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is good!" He kept going while they beat him even more viciously. Wei Jianping, Zhang Shixiong and officer Wang took turns to violently slap Mr. Liu Jianjun's face

The voice of Mr. Liu Jianjun shocked the evil. They were very frightened. Wei Jianping yelled, "Quick, go get a rag to block his mouth!" They then used the dirty black rag that was used for cleaning the table to cover Mr. Liu Jianjun's mouth. Mr. Liu Jianjun waved his head from left to right to stay away, and found many opportunities to continue to call out. As soon as they put down the rag, he started to call out. He did this fifty to sixty times. They kept him locked up on the "Tiger Bench" until 9:00 p.m. He was given neither water nor food for the whole day.

At about 10:00 p.m., they took Mr. Liu Jianjun to the Shisanli Detention Center. In the police car, one police officer started to curse Falun Gong. Mr. Liu Jianjun sternly said, "Be quiet! Evil will be punished and good will be rewarded. All of those who persecute Falun Gong and those who persecute righteous beliefs will not have a good ending." Everyone there, including the Deputy Chief and a few others, did not dare to say anything.

In order to resist the persecution, Mr. Liu Jianjun went on a hunger strike while in the detention center. On December 28, the authorities took several medical personnel with them and started to force-feed Mr. Liu Jianjun. When they were measuring his blood pressure, they failed to detect it several times. Even though Mr. Liu's blood pressure was so low, they still force-fed him.

A man with the last name of Liu, who was the Head of the Discipline and Education Section, led eight to nine inmates to hold Mr. Liu to the ground. Then some pressed down on his head, some on his feet, some on his arms, and some on his legs. Liu stomped on Mr. Liu Jianjun's head. When Mr. Liu spat out blood and saliva from his mouth, Liu prohibited the inmates from cleaning them up, but instead rubbed them onto Mr. Liu's face. They forced a rubber tube into Mr. Liu's throat. Several times they could not get the tube in, so they pulled it out and inserted it again. The pain he was experiencing then was beyond description. At almost every second he was facing the danger of suffocation. Liu and the others constantly yelled, "No problem, stick it in there! If it does not go in, continue to push it in!"

The inmates who were present said, "We saw on TV that they treated Falun Gong practitioners so well. Those are all lies. Today I saw how they really treat Falun Gong practitioners." After the brutal force-feeding, Liu said viciously, "Do not let him raise his head. Continue to hold him down, so that he can't spit it out."

Mr. Liu was force-fed a mixture of salt water and a small amount of poor quality milk powder, as well as some unknown drugs. After the force-feeding, Mr. Liu Jianjun immediately experienced heaviness in his chest and had difficulty breathing. His mouth was so dry that it started to burn. The feeling of thirst and the pain was hard for him to endure. After being force-fed three times, Mr. Liu Jianjun's feet started to swell up, turn red, and feel very painful. Later the feet turned purple, then black, with the skin almost broken due to the edema. They were shiny and bright and caused searing pain. Mr. Liu Jianjun could no longer bear the pain, so he started to cry out. Since he did not eat or drink for over ten days, his face turned pale, his body was emaciated and he was extremely weak. He no longer could move under his own power.

On January 5, 2006, after fifteen days of torture, Mr. Liu Jianjun's body was covered with wounds and he could barely breathe. The inmates dragged him to the police car and took him back to the Nanyingfang Police Station. The police officers confiscated all of his keys and then took him to the computer store where he used to work and left him there, while they ran away to try to escape responsibility.

Facts of the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners at a Forced Labor Camp in Handan City, Hebei Province

The authorities at Handan City Labor Camp flaunt the fact that they have achieved a 100% conversion rate of Falun Gong practitioners, but in reality, they have tortured and coerced practitioners to do things against their wills. The guards of the Special Education Section, led by Yao Jianming (the section head) and Wang Zhiming (the political instructor), use brutal torture methods to attempt to brainwash practitioners, causing unparalleled physical and mental pain to the practitioners. Ironically, a place where such heinous crimes are committed on a daily basis was given the "Civilized Law-Enforcement Work Unit" award by the state judicial system.

The following reports expose how the authorities at Handan City Labor Camp have persecuted some of the practitioners:

Brutal persecution mentally destroyed practitioner Zhao Shenxing

In July 2004 when the authorities illegally put practitioner Zhao Shenxing from Wuan City of Handan into the forced labor camp, he refused to cooperate with any requests to denounce his belief. As a result, the labor camp guards hung him up in the air from a bunk bed, shocked him with electric batons and beat him with leather belts and wooden sticks. Zhao Shenxing screamed horribly during this torture. After breaking a few wooden sticks beating Zhao, the guards burned the arms, chest, and back of Zhao with cigarettes, causing severe burns on dozens of areas of Zhao's body. Because of the extensive persecution, Zhao Shenxing collapsed mentally, and was diagnosed in No. 285 Hospital of Handan City as having an intermittent mental disorder.

Bao Jige's hand incapacitated from brutal beatings

On the afternoon of May 9, 2005, labor camp authorities held a meeting to slander Falun Gong. At the meeting, practitioner Bao Jige from Chengan County of Handan City stood up and refuted the slander by saying, "My whole family practices Falun Gong. We all improved our health as well as our moral character through Falun Gong. Your forced brainwashing is violating the law." He had hardly finished his words when the guards forcefully dragged him out of the room for a brutal beating. In the afternoon, they hung him up in the air and tied his legs against the metal bunk bed. Then five guards, including Yao Jianming, Wang Zhiming, Xing Yansheng, Li Haimin, and Gao Fei, took turns shocking him on his chest and back with two electric batons. As a result of the torture, practitioner Bao's body was covered in bruises. His arms were swollen and his right hand was still incapacitated at the time of writing this report.

The authorities illegally extended the prison term of practitioner Wang Zhiwu by six months

The labor camp authorities have been persecuting practitioner Wang Zhiwu since March 2005, when he was first imprisoned in the labor camp. They forced him to stand for prolonged periods of time on repeated occasions, and deprived him of sleep on two occasions, once for four full days and another for three days. The camp guards posted material slandering Falun Gong all over the walls of his cell, and stuck offensive notes to his face and clothes while he was restrained and hung up off the ground. Twice they hung him up in the air and shocked him with electric batons until he was spitting up blood. By not letting Wang's family visit him, the camp authorities tried to hide their crimes. In November, his prison term was illegally extended for another six months.

Guards shocked practitioner Cheng Wendong simultaneously with four electric batons

On August 31, 2005, because practitioner Cheng Wendong from Qiu County of Handan City refused to follow the guards' orders to write essays slandering Falun Gong and denouncing his belief, the guards took him to the office and tortured him. With a few thugs holding Cheng down, guard Wang Zhiming used four electric batons to shock him at the same time. After the batteries died, the guard continued to beat him with rubber batons.

Guards slapped practitioner Zhao Zhiguan in the face causing bruises lasting a month

In January 2005, practitioner Zhao Zhiguan from Ci County of Handan City refused to cooperate with the guards in denouncing his belief. As a result, the guards hung him up in the air. Guard Wang Zhiming slapped practitioner Zhao in the face three times as hard as he could. His own fingers were injured from the force of the blows. Then he shocked Zhao's chest and nipples with an electric baton. The guard's slapping left finger-shaped bruises on practitioner Zhao's face, which lasted for several weeks.

Guards slapped practitioner Huang Yunzhang in the face dozens of times and beat and shocked practitioner Hao Huaimin

While imprisoned in the forced labor camp, practitioner Huang Yunzhang condemned the crimes of the guards in violently attempting to force practitioners to give up their practice of Falun Gong. Huang Yunzhang also expressed his determination in practicing Falun Gong. On October 7, 2005, guard Yao Jianming forced Huang to remain standing over night. The following day, guard Li Haiming took Huang Yunzhang to the office, beat him up, and slapped him on the face almost a hundred times. As a result, practitioner Huang's nose bled, leaving stains on his face and his clothes.

At the end of June 2005, practitioner Hao Huaimin was being interrogated by guard Zhang Wenshan, when guard Wang Zhiming grabbed Hao's collar and slapped him in the face a dozen times. Later Wang called in a few more thugs to help him to hold down practitioner Hao, while he shocked Hao's neck with an electric baton.

Guards publicly shocked practitioner Su Wenbin with an electric baton

In November 2004, practitioner Su Wenbin from Lingcheng County of Xingtai was taken to Handan Labor Camp and imprisoned there for the third time. As soon as Su arrived, guard Xing Yansheng started to shock him on the neck with an electric baton. Then he said to the other practitioners nearby, "Look! I can tell what you're thinking about from your facial expression. This will be your fate too if you have sympathy for him."

    Persecution still going on

On September 12, October 11, November 20, and November 26, 2005, twenty-three practitioners imprisoned in the First Labor Camp of Hebei Province, Gaoyang Labor Camp, and Tangshan Labor Camps were all transferred to Handan Labor Camp. As usual, the guards abused them mentally and physically. On October 19, 2005, guards Wang Zhiming and Li Haiming brutally beat practitioner Li Liandong from Yangyuan County with a rubber baton. They knocked him down so hard that he was unable to get up; he lay on the floor until noon and had to be assisted by others to walk downstairs.

On October 24, 2005, after getting drunk, guard Gao Jinli, while wearing leather boots, kicked practitioner Wang Zhong from Kuancheng County and struck him on the face, causing severe injuries. On December 2, guard Xing Yansheng shocked practitioner Fan Lianbing again with an electric baton and slapped him in the face a dozen times.

An Extremely Vicious Torture Technique Used by the Banqian Forced Labor Camp of Tianjin City

First, the persecutors pin a Falun Gong practitioner down on a single bed. The practitioner's hands are tied to the bed frame separately. One leg is fixed to the bed and the ankle of the other leg is tied with a rope. One persecutor stands beside the practitioner's head and pulls the rope first towards the left of the practitioner's head and then towards the right and repeats this many times. Often, the person who is tortured feels such intense pain that they lose consciousness. The person's hip bone can be easily broken, leading to permanent disability. When one persecutor pulls the rope, another uses a blazing-red iron board to burn the practitioner's ribs, and then places a round log onto the ribs and rolls it back and forth.

The persecutors at the Banqiao Forced Labor Camp have utilized such torture techniques to persecute many Falun Gong practitioners.

After Falun Gong practitioners Huang Liqiao and Xiao Shuqing from Tianjin City were tortured with the above torture, their legs were numb for three months.

The True Story Behind the Black Door at the Jixi City Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province

Under the evil guise of so-called "educational reform and being rescued," the authorities of the Jixi City Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province constantly use their tools of so-called "educational reform" to torture Falun Gong practitioners.Their favorite tools are police batons and so-called "little white dragons", which they use to brutally beat Falun Gong practitioners until their skin ruptures and the flesh is torn. After being beaten with these tubes, most practitioners aren't even able to walk out of their cells.

Police Officer Qi Min said, "Right, we are using the police baton to educate and reform them." Another police officer, Zhang Guide, said, "Here we can get away with doing these things. If you want to talk about human rights, go to America."

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ma Ronqing from Hulin City suffered extreme persecution in the Jixi Labor Camp. Because of injuries sustained from being tortured, by mid-October 2005, on the verge of death, he was released. But on December 29, 2005, three officers from the Jixi Labor Camp went to Ma Ronqing's house with the excuse of his "having to go back to the labor camp to get physically examined by the coroner." Thus they arrested Mr. Ma. His half-paralyzed wife was left alone with nobody to take care of her.

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Qingjun was illegally detained in the Jixi Labor Camp for more than 3 months. He was forced to do slave labor for over 12 hours each day. On the third day, he fainted in the brick factory. This happened in August 2005.At present Mr. Hu's physical condition is extremely poor. The prison doctor said that he needed to be released in order to go to hospital. However, the officer in charge would not let him go unless he received 4,000-5,000 yuan from his family.Mr. Hu came from another city to Jixi to work. His whole family is dependant on his work in order to live.

Mr. Wei Xiaodong lived at the August First Agricultural University in Heilongjiang Province. On November 2000, he was illegally detained in the Jixi Labor Camp.On March 21, 2005, he was tortured to death there.

610 Office in Xiheying Town in Wei County, Hebei Province, Arrested Falun Gong practitioners to Extort Money from Them and Their Families

Recently, Zhao Jinlong, Zhu Wuyuan and other authorities at the 610 Office of Xiheying Town, Wei County in Hebei Province, have severely persecuted local Falun Gong practitioners. No matter what time of day or night, they frequently climbed over walls and broke down doors to enter and ransack practitioners' homes. They also often tracked, monitored, and closely followed practitioners, waiting for opportunities and seeking excuses to arrest and torture them. For serious punishment, the officers sentenced practitioners and sent them to forced labor camps for further persecution. As "lighter" punishment, they hung up, beat, shocked and burnt the practitioners. The police do not release the practitioners until the full extortion fee is paid. Most Falun Gong practitioners in Xiheying have recently been the victims of extortion and false arrest by officers employed by the 610 Office.

After 8 p.m. on December 24, 2005, while Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Yinglian was preparing dinner at home, Zhao Jinlong and Zhu Wuyuan, along with eight to nine others, climbed over the wall to enter her courtyard. They ransacked her personal property. The officers arrested Ms. Wang Yinglian and her husband and took them to the 610 Office. The next day they sent the couple to the county detention center. When the county detention center refused to accept them, the couple was returned to Xiheying Town for further persecution.

In order to extort money, the police ordered the elderly couple's children to pay for the release of their parents. Because the children had no money, the police beat the couple severely, using electric batons on their faces and backs repeatedly. The couple was then ordered to phone their son and tell him to come pay the money. When their son did not come, the police started to beat them again. The officers punched and kicked the couple until their own hands and feet hurt, so they switched to electric batons to continue the torture. During the day when the police were tired of beating them, the couple was handcuffed in the courtyard to suffer the freezing cold. In evening, they handcuffed the couple to the frame of a bed. In this position, they were not able to stretch their backs or bend their knees. After the police rested, they would beat the couple again in turn, using their hands and feet and electric batons, until the electricity in the batons was used up. Then they would recharge the batons and start the beatings again.

To extort money, the police harassed and beat the couple day and night for five days. Only after determining that there really was no money to be had did the police release the elderly couple.

Authorities of Dalian Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province Deprive Detained Practitioners of Their Right to Family Visits

There is an old saying in China: "One misses his family even more during the holidays." However, authorities of Dalian Forced Labor Camp have been depriving detained practitioners of their right to see their families over the past several years. Even worse, they did not even allow practitioners to see their family members who were terminally ill.

The day before the 2004 Autumn Festival, practitioner Mr. Li Wei's father passed away. Mr. Li's family members called the labor camp, requesting that he be given some time off so he could return to Beijing to take care of his father's funeral. The guard who answered the phone said that Mr. Li's mind was not very stable and he could not be let out.

The facts at that time were as follows: Mr. Li had been handcuffed to an iron bed for over a month and had to wear a boxer's helmet on his head. Everyday he had to get up at 5 a.m. and wasn't allowed to go to bed until midnight. During the day he was forced to sit on a small bench for 18 hours. He was given only half of a steamed bun and a bit of soup every meal. He could only go to the restroom once every four days. He was not allowed to wash his face, to brush his teeth, to have a haircut, or to change his clothes. During the night, he had to remain handcuffed.

Even when Mr. Li Wei was released on July 10, 2005, the guards still did not tell him about his father's death. Mr. Li's father was a retired officer in the police department. The elderly man did not get a chance to see his son for the last time. Mr. Li's father was terminally ill and later passed away in 2004. In 2004 from April 9 to May 28 and from August 31 to November 2, a total of 113 days, Mr. Li twice had to endure the above-mentioned treatment. Deputy captain Wang Shiwei personally beat Mr. Li and instigated guard Li Yue to beat Li using the soles of shoes. They once kept him awake for six days in a row. Sometimes they only allowed him an hour or two of sleep, causing Mr. Li to suffer tremendously and to even have hallucinations.

Practitioner Mr. Teng Pingde is from Dandong. His mother could not stand the pressure and became mentally disoriented. Mr. Teng missed his mother very much. During that period, even though he was only skin and bones, the camp did not give him any time off. Instead, they forced him to labor everyday.

Mr. Cui Deliang was sentenced to three years of forced labor. His father was in his 80s and Mr. Cui was his only son. Mr. Cui requested to be released many times to go home to take care of his father, but he was still detained even when his father passed away in 2004. He was only allowed to take a final look at his father's body at the funeral, under the watch of several guards.

Mr. Wang Xingdian from Shandong Province was also deprived of the right to go home to see his terminally ill parent.

Of the many such cases, we have collected only a handful. Dalian Forced Labor Camp authorities fear that their crimes will be exposed, so they have tried every way they can to brainwash practitioners. In order to block the news, the Eighth Group changed its name to the "All Enclosure Administration Area" while all other groups were designated as "Semi-enclosure Areas." Practitioners are detained in Group 1 and Group 3, which are located in the top floor (fifth floor) of the administration section of the office building. Practitioners are deprived of decent food, normal living conditions, outdoor activities, family's visitations and telephone conversations with family.

Lanzhou Practitioner Ms. Zhen Fengru Dies as a Result of Persecution

Ms. Zhen Fengru, a Falun Gong practitioner in Lanzhou City, was arrested and sent to the Gong Jiawan Brainwashing Center by the Qilihe Public Security Sub-bureau in Lanzhou City on October 26, 2004. She suffered tremendously from the inhumane persecution both mentally and physically. She was later isolated from her son and confined to her house when her son was threatened by the authorities. She collapsed mentally and passed away in September 2005.

Ms. Zhen Fengru, approximately 55 years of age, was a former employee of the Second Construction Engineering Company in Gansu Province. She once had a variety of illnesses. After she started to practice Falun Gong, she achieved good health and she tried her best to be a good person. She was honest and kind, hardworking and able to endure hardships, and was willing to help others.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Ms. Zhen twice went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and was detained several times. She later left her home and became homeless for fear of endangering her family. For several months in 2000 and 2001, Ms. Zhen was forced by her employer and the local police substation to study materials slamming Falun Gong in the security division of her workplace. She was threatened that she would be sent to a dark cell if she did not go. One day in January 2001, because Ms. Zhen refused to check in at the security division, she was taken away from her home by six policemen. She was detained with drug-addict criminals for a day and a night. She was later transferred to a brainwashing center to be "reformed." She had a school-age son at home.

In the evening on October 26, 2004, people from the Qilihe Public Security Sub-bureau arrested Mr. Zhen from her rented house and sent her to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center. There she suffered inhumane mental and physical persecution. In only a few months, Ms. Zhen Fengru, who was originally healthy, was tortured until she was debilitated and had dangerously high blood pressure. In spite of this, the authorities did not release her, nor did they allow her only son to visit her. Ms. Zhen was pressured to write the three statements. Around July 2005, under the vicious persecution and huge spiritual pressure she wrote the "three statements" against her conscience. Afterwards she was released.

The CCP's spiritual tortures are worse than its physical ones. They destroyed Zhen Fengru's dignity as a human being. Her experience living there was worse than death. Because the CCP threatened her son, after she returned home, he sent her to their hometown in Anhui Province and kept her inside. Ms. Zhen Fengru could thereafter not live a normal life. She was exhausted physically and mentally and finally suffered a mental collapse. She passed away in September 2005.
