  • Lanzhou City Jail Authorities Aggressively Persecute Practitioners

The authorities of Lanzhou City Jail in Gansu Province have brutally persecuted Falun Gong practitioners since November 1, 2005. Some practitioners were locked in jail cells with four prisoners who followed the authorities' orders to watch each practitioner. The inmates refused to let practitioners sleep. Each practitioner was fed only one steamed bun and a small cup of water per day. This was one of the ways they persecuted practitioners mentally and physically.

Some practitioners were locked in confined cells with bother their hands and feet cuffed. Others were further tortured by being hung up in the air. The practitioners' lives were truly at risk at all times.

Six cases of persecution were particularly serious. Sun Zhaohai was locked in a confined cell for a month, from November 7 to December 8, 2005. After his release, they arrested him again and locked him in a small cell, where four prisoners watched him and deprived him of any sleep. Wei Xingzhu was locked in a confined cell for 28 days and Li Wenming for a month. Zhang Guangli was also locked in a confined cell. An Jiheng and Wang Yanwen are still being brutally persecuted by the authorities.

According to inside information, police officers from Beijing went to Lanzhou City Jail to try to force practitioners to sign repentance statements. They used eight prisoners to persecute one practitioner. If a practitioner did not sign a repentance statement, he or she was not allowed to sleep, plus the officer in charge would lose his or her job.

This is a list of some of the detained practitioners and where they were held.

In 2001, Ms. Wang was sent to forced labor for one year, which was later extended to another year. While in the Shayang Forced Labor Camp, all ten of her fingers were nailed to the wall. Her whole body turned black and blue. She regained consciousness after they poured cold water on her body. As a result of the abuse she experienced at the labor camp, Ms. Wang could not sleep while lying on her back and had to sleep on her stomach.

Practitioners from Tianjin City Cruelly Tortured; Several Died

Many Falun Gong practitioners from Tianjin City have been cruelly persecuted for their belief in the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." The following are some cases of persecution.

Ms. Liu Shuping, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin City, has been detained for more than 5 years. At the end of May 2000, the local police station called her and said that they had something to talk to her about. She believed their words and went to the police station by bicycle. Halfway there, several policemen knocked down her bicycle and illegally arrested her without any legal procedure. She was then directly sent to the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp of Tianjin City, where she was sentenced to 1 year of forced labor.

In the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp, Ms. Liu suffered from all kinds of torture day and night. During the daytime, the prison guards brutally beat her and tortured her with "flying the airplane," where she was bent over and her arms were pulled up behind her like the wings of an airplane. She was forced to hold that painful position for long periods of time. At night the prison guards ordered prisoners who were drug addicts and prostitutes to watch her to prevent her from falling asleep. Under such circumstances, Ms. Liu went on a hunger strike to protest her treatment. The police force-fed her many times, and for a while she became mentally disoriented due to the torment. Despite this, Ms. Liu refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Consequently, her sentence was extended by half a year when her term ended. When the extension came to an end, she was sent to a detention center and was again sentenced to 3 years of forced labor. Ms. Liu has been held for more than 5 and one half years. She has suffered from all kinds of cruel torture.

Jan. 1, 2006, was the day of Ms. Liu's release after the second half-year extension of her 3-year term in the labor camp. However, when her family members went to the labor camp to pick her up, they were told that she had another 4-month extension because she went on hunger strikes. Ms. Liu is still in the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp of Tianjin City.

Ms. Shao Shuwen is a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin city. She was sentenced to 1.5 years of forced labor and was released after she wrote a statement promising to give up her practice of Falun Gong. After she returned home, she understood that her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" is righteous and again started to practice Falun Gong, for which she was sentenced to prison for 2 years. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, so the police force-fed her, which led to a hemorrhage in her stomach. Although her life is in danger, she is still held in the Women's Prison of Tianjin City.

Ms. Li Aijun was a doctor at the Xi-ai Hospital in Beijing. She served in the hospital as a nurse and was very kind to her patients. However, she was let go from her work simply because she clarified the truth about Falun Gong, saying that the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" could bring great benefits to the country and to people and could improve society's morality. After that she became homeless in order to avoid further harassment. In 2002, she was arrested and was sentenced to 9 years in prison. She is still held in the Beijing Women's Prison. Other practitioners imprisoned together with her are Zhou Zi, a teacher from the Fangshan district of Beijing, who was sentenced to 7 years and Liu Qian, who was sentenced to 6 years. In the prison they suffered from all kinds of torture both physically and mentally and were forced to do slave labor for 16 to 20 hours every day.

Ms. Cheng Ke, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin city, had been a government official. Because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong and firmly believed in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance," she was sentenced to forced labor in the Women's Labor Camp of Tianjin City 3 times. She was held for more than 3 years in total. The perpetrators there tortured her many times. Her leg was broken as a result. She died when she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Mr. Tang Jian, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin City, graduated from the physics department of Nankai University in Tianjin City and was an excellent teacher in a middle school. In a movement held by his school to denounce Falun Gong, he wrote "to be confirmed" at the end of a propaganda slogan on a black board, for which he was sent to a brainwashing center. Because he refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he was later sent to the Shuangkou Labor Camp in Tianjin City, where he was sentenced to one year of forced labor and suffered from all kinds of cruel torture. His face was covered with injuries caused by burning cigarettes. Each time before he had a bath, the prison guards beat him brutally so that his skin was broken and his muscles were smashed. Then they filled the bath tub with salty hot water and ordered criminal prisoners to hold him in the water so that he could not stand up. Mr. Tang still refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong. As a result, Mr. Tang died of the long term torture when he was only 39 years old, leaving his elderly parents, his young wife and a minor child.

Two Elderly Practitioners from Henan Province and Hebei Province Passed Away Due to Repeated Persecution

Practitioner Mr. Yan Yong'an, 70 years old and a retired cadre from the Tobacco Department of Pingdingshan City in Henan Province, lived in Xinnan Village, Gaohuang Township of Weidong District. Because Mr. Yan steadfastly practiced Falun Gong, after the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, he frequently suffered from threats, harassment and illegal home searches perpetrated by the police from the Weidong District 610 Office and by the the Gaohuang Township Police Station.

In March 2001, someone reported his wife, also a practitioner, to the authorities while she was clarifying the truth. She was later arrested and taken to the Ye County Detention Center where she was tortured. Their home was ransacked, and the police extorted 3000 yuan from them. In October 2001, his wife was again reported to the police for telling people the truth. The couple was once more forced to pay extortion to the police. In August 2002, seven practitioners were having group practice in Mr. Yan's house. When they were reported to the police, the police ransacked their home and fined them. In April 2003, when Mr. Yan Yong'an was clarifying the truth in the city, he was reported to the police and had to pay them 2000 yuan. In the past six years, Mr. Yan, who is elderly, has been repeatedly harassed, threatened, fined, and had his home ransacked by CCP officials from the district, township and village and also by police officers that went to his house. The psychological torture he suffered cannot be put into words. He gradually developed illness symptoms. Sadly, Mr. Yan passed away on December 10, 2005.

Practitioner Ms. Jia Xiuying, 85 years old, lived in Chicheng County, Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province. Ms. Jia learned Falun Gong in 1995. After becoming a practitioner, she totally recovered from many illnesses, including emphysema. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, the CCP officials put her practitioner-son through the so-called "double gauge." Her daughter-in-law was arrested four times. The police tapped their phone and repeatedly went to her home to harass them. When her daughter-in-law was arrested in 2001, Ms. Jia Xiuying became paralyzed. Her older son's wife was also held in the County Detention Center because she went to Beijing to appeal. Because both of her daughter-in-laws were arrested, the elderly Ms. Jia was both anxious and angry and she became paralyzed in the lower half of her body. Because Ms. Jia steadfastly practiced Falun Gong, she recovered from this condition within several months.

In 2002, during the time of the CCP's 16th National People's Congress, the police arrested her daughter-in-law again at home. Ms. Jia Xiuying was again threatened. Several months later, she had the symptoms of a stroke. Ms. Jia was in pain for two years and eight months before she passed away on December 18, 2005.

Communist regime agents in Xinganmeng, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are still persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They illegally arrested nearly 200 practitioners and physically tortured and mentally tormented them. These corrupt officials forced the practitioners to read articles that slander Falun Gong and Teacher and also to watch videos of the same slanderous content. They threatened and intimidated the practitioners that they would only be released if they write guarantee statements to renounce Falun Gong. If the refused, they would be directly sent to labor camps or prisons. Liu Feng force-fed practitioners on hunger strikes and injected the practitioners with nerve-damaging drugs.
