  • Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Qibo Tortured to Death (Photos)

Mr. Wang Qibo was sentenced to seven years in prison because he persisted in his belief in Falun Gong. Handing down the sentence were officials from Nong'an County in Jilin Province. Mr. Wang was incarcerated in Jilin Prison, where he suffered all kinds of physical torture and mental torment. In the middle of the night on March 27, 2007, he was sent to Jilin City Railroad Hospital. He was at death's door. Only 47 years old, Wang Qibo died on March 28 at 9:50 a.m. The following is his story.

Mr. Wang Qibo, who was a credit clerk at the Jilin Province Nong'an County Yangshulin Credit Union, started practicing Falun Gong in April 1997. He tried his best to be a kind person according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." He benefited physically and mentally. Prior to studying Falun Gong, Wang Qibo had allergic skin reactions on rainy days and he also suffered from gastritis. These conditions disappeared after he began the practice. His family lived in harmony. He worked hard and fulfilled his responsibilities. Everyone thought he was a kind person. After the persecution began in 1999, however, Wang Qibo was targeted for persecution again and again.

    Wang Qibo before his death

Wang Qibo in death, with bruises around his nostrils and mouth. His whole face was blue and black.

On July 22, 1999, several officials attempted to compel Mr. Wang to supply them with a guarantee statement to abandon Falun Gong practice. The officials involved were Gao Hongxue, a local village Security Committee member; Ren Wangxi, a local police officer (who has since died in an accident); Jiang Ximing; Zhang Yaming; and Wang Mingzhang, (since died in an accident). They went to Mr. Wang's home. On the morning of July 27, 1999, police officers Zhang Yaming and Jiang Ximing deceived Mr. Wang into going to the police station "for a talk." They detained him for two weeks.

After his release, two people from the Nong'an County Credit Union made Wang Qibo write the guarantee statement to give up Falun Gong and made him hand over his Falun Gong books. On September 16, 1999, they took Mr. Wang to the county Communist Party School for brainwashing. While there, police officers Wang Mingzhang and Gao Hongxue forced him to sit the concrete floor and run in the yard. County Party committee secretary Ma Baolin and deputy secretary Cao Haizhan deprived Mr. Wang of sleep and made him remain in the "holding the wheel" posture for a long time. On the evening of September 27, 1999, the county Communist Party committee people detained Wang Qibo again. Because he refused to sign the detention form, they bloodied his nose and tore his clothes. During his detention they made him carry bags of beans and pick up rotten beans. His daily work load was more than he could physically handle. Furthermore, after 60 days of detention they made him pay more than 1,000 yuan for "room and board."

In the afternoon on February 27, 2000, local village public security head Gao Hongxue, local police officers Wang Mingzhang and Jiang Ximing, and driver Jiang arrested Wang Qibo again. When he refused to be handcuffed, Zhao Xichao and driver Cao Dongzi beat him cruelly. Then he was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to Changchun City's Weizigou Forced Labor Camp. The guards there incited the criminal inmates to beat Wang Qibo's buttocks. When the weather was still cold in April, he was forced to lift a stone from frozen water. He trembled because of the cold. Mr. Wang was eventually transferred to Changchun City's Fenjin Forced Labor Camp. He contracted scabies there, and the itch was excruciating.

On July 5, 2001, around 11:00 p.m., police officers Zhang Yaming and "Fat Man" Wang (childhood nickname), as well as Wang Mingzhang and driver Jiang, accompanied by Yangjiawazi Village Security head Sun Gonghai, went to Wang Qibo's house again. He refused to open the door for them, so they ordered police officer Gao Hongxue to threaten him. Because Mr. Wang refused to open the door, police officer Zhang smashed the steel bars on the windows and doors and broke in. They made off with many of Mr. Wang's personal belongings. Several police officers pushed him to the floor and put him in handcuffs. They pulled him to the police car where they beat him mercilessly. Later on, county police officers and those from a local police station went to his home once more and confiscated more personal items. Wang Qibo was detained more than 20 days without evidence, and his family had more than 10,000 yuan extorted from them.

The morning of July 13, 2002, several people threatened Wang Qibo with a drawn gun. They were local village public security head Jiang Mingzhan, township police head Wang Ping, Qianguo County Police Station head Wu Baochen, and four or five policemen. They had no warrant but arrested him anyway and took him to the Qianguo Police Department. They beat Mr. Wang severely, giving him a bloody nose, and then shocked him under the arm with an electric baton. On the third day, Mr. Wang's family went to the Qianguo County Police Department and requested to see him. The police said their supervisor had given orders that no visitors were allowed. His family protested. The police said some rude things. Two days later, they went to the Qianguo County Police Department again to petition for his release, but the police threw them out.

Two weeks later, on July 28, 2002, the family received Mr. Wang's detention document issued by Cai Shoujun from the Qianguoeroce Mongolian Autonomous County Police Department. The arrest document arrived on July 30, 2002. Mr. Wang didn't agree to the sentence and submitted his letter of appeal. His letter was held up at police officer Gao's place for several hours. His family sought an interview with him many times, but officer Lu Zhanguo always refused them. On September 12, 2002, Jiang Mingzhan led four officers from Qianguo Police Station to search Wang Qibo's home. They tried to find some evidence to sentence him but turned up nothing. Wang Qibo persisted with his appeal, which was denied on December 28, 2002. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Those responsible for the sentence were: Jilin Province Qianguoerluosi Mongolia Autonomous County people's court primary judge Liu Hongjun, deputy judge Fan Weixu, Zhao Guanghe, and secretary Hu Fangquan. The family was kept uninformed about the whole procedure. Zhenzi Prison refused to admit Wang Bo, so he was eventually sent to Qianguo Detention Center. The next day, he was transferred to Tiebei Prison in Changchun, where he was again denied admittance. Qianguo County police personnel sent him to the Seventh Ward of the Jilin Province Second Prison.

In the Seventh Ward Wang Qibo was monitored around the clock and had to sit 14 hours a day, until 7:00 p.m. He suffered excruciating pain.

They removed one of the bed planks and made him sit on the two side planks, with his legs straight ahead. They kept putting heavy items on top of his legs. Sometimes they ordered him to sit up straight on the planks. He would be brutally beaten if he fell.

Mr. Wang's family went to all the prisons in Changchun and Jilin in January 2003 to inquire as to Wang Qibo's whereabouts. Once they knew where he was, they went immediately to visit him. Official Yang refused to let them in. Even though Mr. Wang was incarcerated at the Jilin Province's Second Prison, he refused to give up Falun Gong practice. He endured all kinds of suffering and humiliation. The guards urged a criminal inmate surnamed Yan from Jiaohe to beat Mr. Wang's arms and back with a stick. Li Yongsheng from the Education Sector tried to force Mr. Wang to "reform." Because Wang Qibo refused to recite the prison regulations, Li Yongsheng and Sun Erxia (nickname) urged criminal inmate Wang Zhaolin to beat him mercilessly.

On November 2003, Jilin Province's Second Prison stopped all family visits for the whole year. Wang Qibo's mother, who was then in her 70s, took her grandson and granddaughter many times to visit him, but they were always turned away at the entrance. A female officer at the reception desk foul-mouthed the older woman, who cried all the way back home.

On May 13, 2005, because Wang Qibo defied all the unreasonable orders of those in charge, the Education Section people strictly monitored him. Others who were personally involved in the monitoring and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners include Li Yongsheng, Li Zhuang, and cadre Wang. During the "strict monitoring" period, the following abuses were routine: having to sit on a plank, being stretched on a plank (a cruel torture), and being beaten and kicked.

The morning of June 24, 2005, Mr. Wang's relatives called the reception desk and were told they could visit Wang Qibo. However, after they had completed the paperwork in the afternoon, agents from the Sixth Ward refused their request. On July 18, 2005, three generations of Mr. Wang's family went to the prison again to petition for a visit. Female officer Wang Yanbo and another male officer denied their request again. Wang Qibo's family members asked why it was wrong to live according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." They said, "He is innocent, but he is being detained!" The officials were speechless.

The family asked several times to talk to the reception officials' superior. The underlings were not only belligerent and unreasonable, they also lied and shifted the responsibility onto each other. The family finally found Tan Fuhua, who was in charge. She tried to shift responsibility to the Sixth Ward guards, Tang and Gai (surnames).

Due to the family members' urgent pleas, they were finally able to visit Wang Qibo on July 22, 2005.

Wang Qibo was extremely thin. He trembled when he walked. Separated by a glass partition, guard Wang Yanbo monitored the telephone and recorded every word of their talk, fearing that their abuse of practitioners would be exposed.

Wang Qibo wrote several letters of appeal regarding his case. The person in charge simply withheld his letters and did nothing. Mr. Wang had nowhere to go to seek justice. On January 11, 2007, his elderly father was sick and could not visit him. The senior Mr. Wang wrote a letter asking for the release of his innocent son and asked his mother to hand it to the prison officials. The woman behind the first floor reception desk stonewalled her. She took the letter and handed it over to someone in an inner office. So far there has been no response. On February 8, 2007, the family was aware that Wang Qibo's health was deteriorating. He was extremely thin and weak.

Around 1:00 a.m. on March 28, 2007, the family suddenly received a call from the head of the prison's Sixth Ward, Liu Zhenyu. He said that Wang Qibo had had a massive stroke and was in the emergency room of the Second Center Hospital in Jilin Province. Doctor Cui Wentao briefly explained the situation and asked the family members to come as soon as possible.

Half an hour later Liu called again and asked them to hurry up. He told them that they could call him once they arrived and that the prison would pay the taxi fare. When the family arrived at the hospital after five o'clock they noticed that Wang Qibo's pupils were dilated. He had blood in his mouth, nose, and underwear. He was barely breathing.

About four or five prison guards were present, including Liu Zhenyu and Li Yongsheng. Two criminal inmates helped administer oxygen and an intravenous drip to maintain Mr. Wang's life. When the family asked for details, the guards only said it was a cerebral hemorrhage had caused his present condition. When asked why he had blood in his mouth, the reply was, "Saliva." When the family asked the assisting inmate how Wang Qibo had become ill, the inmate replied that it was because Wang Qibo had fallen while taking a bath around 10:00 p.m. When asked why he was taking a bath that late, the inmate replied it was because they worked late. Then the guards stopped the inmate from speaking, saying that inmates didn't have the right to speak. The family members then asked the inmate, "Were you there when Wang Qibo fell?" The inmate no longer dared to answer.

The family pointed out that Mr. Wang had arrived in good health, and they wondered how he could have ended up in such condition. They questioned why it took officials so long to notify the family. Leader Liu said that looking up phone numbers took some time.

The family immediately requested to take Wang Qibo home. The prison officials firmly refused their request. Instead, they ordered that at most two family members could remain to nurse Wang Qibo, who was on the brink of death. Mr. Wang Qibo died at 9:00 a.m.

Wang Qibo's father has been sick and unable to care for himself for a long time. Mr. Wang's mother has had to take care of his father. When Wang Qibo was still alive, his father wanted to visit him but he was not allowed. When he was dead they wanted to see him for the last time. The family asked to have his body transferred to their hometown to satisfy his parents' last wish, but the prison authorities firmly refused. Moreover, they refused to let the family members take photos of the body and intimidated the family members into agreeing to an immediate cremation.

The police were watchful at the cremation ceremony. Their badge numbers were: 2212035, 2212215, 2212085, 2212055, 2212028, 2212192, 2212018.

The phone number for Liu Zhenyu, head of the Sixth District: 86-13364384103.

During the past seven years, Wang Qibo's family hasn't had a single peaceful day. Mr. Wang was dismissed from work and had his wages stopped. Thus, his family had no income. Whenever a sensitive date approached, agents from the local township Communist Party committee, the local police station, his workplace director Xu Weide, Yan Dejiang, and Tan Guoqing would come to harass, monitor, and threaten the family and confiscate their possessions. Faced with all these pressures, Wang Qibo's daughter had to quit school.

Practitioner Wang Qibo died because he was persecuted for cultivating "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." When he died, it snowed heavily in his hometown. People said it was because he died an unjust death.

Wang Qibo is gone, but there are still many practitioners suffering inhuman persecution in the Jilin Second Prison. We urgently appeal to the international community to pay attention to and rescue those Falun Gong practitioners who cultivate according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance but who are being persecuted and imprisoned. In the meantime, we appeal to all kind persons in the world to let their voices of justice be heard, and help stop this catastrophe that is happening in China.

Ms. Men Xiumei and Her Family Suffer Ruthless Torture

By Men Xiumei and Cheng Mouzhong

I am 69 years old and from northeast China. I learned Falun Gong in June 1997. In less a month, all my illnesses, including: pains in my legs and on my skin, lower back pain, stomach ulcer, and stiff shoulder were gone. Later, all five of my children also began to practice.

Since July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to suppress Falun Gong and slander Master Li. I was deeply grieved. Five of us went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The police there arrested us and we were locked in a basement for seven days. Then we were returned back to our hometown, where we were detained for an additional thirty days. We went on a hunger strike to protest and were then released. My family realized that we needed to explain the facts to people, so that people would understand that Falun Dafa is good. Many times we returned to Beijing to clarify the truth.

During the initial period of the persecution, I was arrested many times. On November 12, 2000, my son, grandson, daughter-in-law, and I went to Beijing to clarify the truth, but we were taken by the police to the Shijingshan Detention Center in Beijing. During the police interrogation I refused to tell them my name [editor's note: due to the CCP's policy of implicating and harassing practitioners' family members and work units, practitioners often refuse to reveal their names and addresses when they are arrested]. They further interrogated me at night and fiercely slapped my face. My face began to swell and I started to bleed from my mouth.

After the police who were beating me got tired, another policeman took me to different room and told me, "I know practitioners are good people and have difficulties at home. You tell me where you are from and I will let you leave tomorrow morning." I believed him and told him I was from Jixi City. The next day the police locked me in the basement of the Beijing Office, designated for detaining practitioners.

After spending three days in the basement I was handcuffed and transferred to the Jixi Detention Center in Heilongjiang Province. The guards tortured me and tried to force me to sign a document to renounce Falun Gong. When I refused, they detained me for an additional 20 days, then sentenced me to a year in prison.

I was Illegally Imprisoned in a Forced Labor Camp

At 7:00 p.m. on November 17, 2000, the police took me out of the Jixi Detention Center and asked me to sign a statement. I asked the police what it was for. When they told me I was to be sentenced to a year in a forced labor camp, I refused to sign. They told me either way I'd have to go to prison. That same night, the police handcuffed me and sent me to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City. I hadn't eaten for four days and was dressed in light clothing. I passed out in the car due to the extremely cold weather.

In the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, I was again tortured and the guards wouldn't let me eat if I didn't follow their instructions. In the summer months the guards would force me to lie on the ground, exposed to the sizzling heat of the sun, or make me stand against a wall for long periods of time. The guards wouldn't allow me to go to the toilet or eat.

On January 31, 2001, fellow practitioners and I tried to study Lunyu together, but the guards brutally beat and punished us. As I fell to the ground a guard kicked me and broke one of my ribs. It took three months to heal.

On June 17, 2001, the guards made up six rules in the camp. Some of them were, "not appealing for Falun Gong," "not doing Falun Gong exercises" and "not going to Beijing [to appeal for justice]." They asked all practitioners to sign the agreement, but the practitioners refused. That night, the guards brutally tortured 15 of the practitioners whose cells were on the first floor of the labor camp. One of the practitioners on the second floor, Li (given name unknown), who had some supernormal abilities said, "Some people on the first floor have been beaten to death." A prisoner (not a practitioner) reported Li's comment to the guards. The next day, June 18, 2001, five guards brought four dishes and a bowl of rice to Li and hurried him to eat. Li heard the word "poisonous" in his ear and so he told the guards he wouldn't eat if they didn't. The guards took Li to a secret room. It was said that all of the 15 practitioners, dead or alive, were taken to the secret room. Later it was revealed that four out of the 15 died. This was later known as the "6-18 incident" that happened in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp and was known among the practitioners. Brutal incidents like this are still ongoing in the camp.

I had severe itching all over my body from scabies as a result of the torture. I vomited blood and had blood in my stools. I was very weak and wanted to meditate to improve my health. A guard known as Xiaoma saw me meditating and reported me to Captain Lin and Wu Jinying. Xiaoma and four other guards claimed that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) forbade people from doing the Falun Gong exercises, so they beat me. Lin punched me so hard on my chest, that I had difficulty breathing for several months.

One day in February 2001, I was doing the exercises and Xiang Yuanqin saw me. She scolded me and tortured me. The next day she fell down the stairs and broke her shoulder. I thought it must be karmic retribution.

On November 15, 2001, every practitioner wore a white flower in memory of practitioners who died due to torture. On November 17, 2001, my health further deteriorated and the camp authorities released me because they feared bearing the responsibility if I were to die in the camp.

My Husband Cheng Zhongmou Is Persecuted and I Am Sent to a Forced Labor Camp Again

In November 1999, my husband and I were studying the Fa at home when two police officers, Tong (first name unknown) and Liu Minggui, broke in. They tried to confiscate our books, but when the power went out all of a sudden, the officers quickly left.

The next day the two officers came back again. They forced my husband to put down a deposition and turn in his Falun Gong books. One day, towards the end of November, seven police officers broke into our house. They took our books and ordered us to pack our bags to go to the police station with them. When we refused, they forcibly carried and pushed us into their cars and took us to the Hengshan Police Station. I was sentenced to a year and my husband was detained for a while. The next day the officers went to our home to confiscate our belongings. They took 17 Falun Gong books and 12,000 yuan in cash without giving us any receipt.

After my husband was released, he lived a homeless life to avoid arrest until after I served my sentence. After he picked me up from the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, the police still came to harass us every day. We were forced to leave home again and move frequently to avoid further persecution.

My Son, Daughter-in-law and Grandson Are Persecuted

On November 12, 2000, my son, Cheng Peiming, daughter-in-law, Wang Shuhong, my grandson, Cheng Yu, and Mr. and Mrs. Wang, and their child, went to Tiananmen Square to appeal. All the adults were arrested. The two children, Cheng Yu and Wangs' child hadn't opened up their banners yet, so they decided to return to Tiananmen. Cheng Yu opened up his banner and shouted, "Falun Dafa is Good!"

The police quickly arrested him and interrogated him. Cheng Yu told the police that he had come there with his parents, but his parents were arrested and he didn't know where they were. The police couldn't find Cheng Yu's parents and put him in Tianjin Detention Center. A practitioner who was also from Jixi city was detained there and she knew Cheng Yu. Eventually she took Cheng Yu back.

    My Son Cheng Peiming's Experience

My son, Cheng Peiming, and his wife had their own small business in Jimo City in Shandong Province. The three of them had a great life. My son's lung tuberculosis was healed after he started practicing Falun Gong and everything went well for him.

After the persecution started, the CCP sabotaged his business and forced him to give up his business. The police forced him to walk to the town hall in a squatting position with one officer pulling his ear. My son suffered a heat stroke several times due to the intense heat in the summer and when the police didn't give him any water, his lips would crack. The police beat him and tried to force him to give up Falun Gong, but my son knew that Falun Gong and Master Li gave him his life back and cured his lung tuberculosis. He truly benefited from the practice and knew the CCP made up all the propaganda on TV, so he refused to cooperate with the evil CCP. He knew couldn't stay in Shandong anymore and went to Daqing City in northeast China. After living in Daqing for six months, the local CCP made it impossible for him to live there and so he came to be with my husband and me in Jixi City.

One night, CCP agents in Jixi City attempted to arrest my son. He didn't want to bring us trouble and so left our house. He worked with other practitioners to make truth-clarification materials. Someone reported them to the police, and they were arrested; many Falun Gong books, truth-clarification materials and a rental car were confiscated. My son, Cheng Peiming, was sentenced to eight years in prison.

    Cheng Peiming Is Brutally Tortured

In May 2001, Cheng Peiming was illegally sentenced to eight years. During his sentence, the police brutally tortured him. The followings is my son's statement of how he was persecuted:

    1. At the Jiguan District Public Safety Bureau in Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province

On May 11, 2001, as I attended a conference with practitioners from the Hongxing Township, Jiguan District, Jixi City, I was attacked by four police officers. Two police officers grabbed me, and another two jumped on me and brutally beat me until I fell to the ground. They grabbed my feet and dragged me to their car, about 30 feet away. They tried to stuff me into the trunk, but I struggled. They repeatedly banged my head, then forced me into the trunk and drove me to Jiguan District Public Safety Bureau. We arrived at about 4:00 p.m. where they threw me into an interrogation room

From 4:00 p.m., May 11 until 8:00 a.m., May 13, for a period of more than 30 hours, I was continually interrogated and tortured by four policemen; they only stopped when they ate. During the torture process, they didn't wear their police uniforms or identity badges because they didn't want me to disclose their wicked conduct.

During that time, the police tied me to a Tiger Bench and used over ten methods of torture on me. They punched me in the face, inserted heated skewers into my nails, shot at my lips with rubber bands, scratched a belt buckle up and down my ribcage, clipped my nipples with steel clamps, beat me with batons, forcefully dug into my collar bone, and used tortures called "Nama" and "Space Hat" on me.

"Nama" - two police pushed really hard on the gap between my legs and lower abdomen; two other police squeezed really hard on my ribcage from my lower rib up to my arm pits. It was extremely painful and it exhausted me.

"Space Hat" - the police put a plastic bag on my head, tightened it, and put a helmet on my head. They heavily banged a 7 pound hammer on the helmet until I partially lost consciousness due to the fierce impact. They repeated this during interrogation.

The police weighted me down with handcuffs and leg shackles weighing over 40 lbs and didn't allow me to remove them during sleep. I told other prisoners (not practitioners) that Falun Gong was innocent and went on a hunger strike to protest. The prisoners (not practitioners) beat me every day. On May 15, the Deputy Director Zhang Yi tried to talk me into eating, but I refused. Zhang ordered me to kneel down. I again refused. Two prisoners held me down and banged my head on the ground. Zhang Yi ordered four police to shock me with electric batons. They stripped me and shocked my penis and the inside of my mouth. They tried to force me to badmouth Master Li and Falun Gong but failed. They shocked me continually for three days. I couldn't stand it any longer and started eating. They then forced me to wear 60-lb shackles for 24 days. During the following months, Zhang Yi often instigated prisoners to beat me, spit in my face, push me around, and stuff dirty socks in my mouth. On January 7, 2002, Zhang Yi beat me with an electric baton for no reason.

    2. At the First Detention Center in Jixi City

At 9:00 a.m. on May 13, 2001, I was taken to the 8th Prison Ward of the Jixi First Detention Center. A guard told the prisoners that I was a "heavyweight" Falun Gong practitioner and they needed to teach me a good lesson. The minute I stepped into the prison cell, two prisoners punched my head and I was pushed into one of the walls. The prisoners surrounded me and the guard came in and put handcuffs and shackles that weighed over 40 lbs on me.

I was in the detention center for over 11 months and my body was extremely swollen because of the beatings. There was a doctor in the detention center with the last name Wang, who said, "If a practitioner is beaten to death, I will issue a death certificate saying he died of a disease."

    3. In the Jiguan District Court in Jixi City

In January 2002, I was sent to trial in the Jiguan District Court, where I told the judge that Falun Gong was innocent and was a righteous teaching. I told him that practitioners were not guilty of any crimes. They sentenced me to eight years and the court officers beat me with a baton.

    4. At the Harbin Prison

On April 10, 2002, the police put me in the Harbin Prison "Intensive Training Team," to continue the torture. On January 5, 2003, guard Lin Bo tried to force me to write slandering materials against Falun Gong. To protest, I swallowed six 3-inch long steel nails [editor's note: Falun Gong practitioners are not supposed to use such extreme means to protest. The fact that Mr. Cheng felt compelled to resort to this extreme measure is an indication of the severity of the persecution]. I had to have surgery twice, at the Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital, to remove the steel nails. Before surgery, I clarified the truth to the doctor and nurses, "Practitioners are good people, please tell them (the prison guards) to stop persecuting us." Guards Lin Bo, Du Zuosheng, Li Cai and two others at the scene lowered their heads in shame.

During the surgery, the doctor pumped out two bowls of blood since the nails had poked through my intestines. The surgery lasted over two hours. They didn't give me anesthetics and caused severe damage to my stomach and intestines. I became dizzy, delusional, and seriously fatigued during the surgery.

I was transferred back to the Harbin Prison Hospital. After two days of intravenous injections, guards Lin Bo, Dong Zhicheng, and Zhang Jiushan locked me in solitary confinement, where I went on a hunger strike. At night, prisoners Zhang Yong, Zhang Xiaofeng, and Ni Jie came to torture me. Zhang Yong said, "Don't blame me; the government ordered us to torture you. If you die, the government will take the responsibility; if you don't, we get merit points for torturing you." They covered my mouth with a towel, poked my eyes, punched my ears, clutched and squeezed my testicles, and kicked my head. Zhang Yong forcefully pulled on my collar bone, which was extremely painful and made my arm go numb. Ni Jie and Zhang Xiaofeng kicked my ribcage and bent my fingers back. The torture lasted for several hours. My throat was dry and I threw up. The towel stopped it from leaving my mouth and I had to swallow the vomit. The prisoners didn't want to be responsible for my life and asked the police to take me back to the hospital.

On April 10, 2003, I was transferred to the Sixth Prison Ward. I decided to formally press charges against the prison guards who tortured me. I told Captain Zhu Wencheng how I was tortured. Zhu told me that it was illegal for practitioners to sabotage the SinoSat satellite, so I told him that practitioners had done so because the government wouldn't let us clarify the truth of Falun Gong and that they created the propaganda to justify the persecution. They tried to tell me I didn't have evidence of the torture and beatings. I showed them the bloodstains I had on my bed sheet. They told me that that only proved that I had tuberculosis and I vomited blood on my bed sheet. I had nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

    --------

The above is how my son Cheng Peiming was tortured. At the end of 2004, my daughter-in-law Wang Shuhong divorced my son because she couldn't make a living and raise their son Cheng Yu if she was married to a Falun Gong practitioner. My two daughters are imprisoned in the Harbin Women's Prison now and have to do intensive labor every day.

Jiang Zemin's regime tore my happy family apart. I hope that all kind-hearted people who hear my family's story will see through the CCP's evil nature, and wake up from the CCP's lies. I hope they will quit the CCP and choose to have a future.

My Experience of Being Persecuted at Forced Labor Camp in Beijing

    By Yang Feng

My name is Yang Feng. I was arrested on March 1, 2005 by Beijing police and sentenced to two years of forced labor. I was "released" on September 1, 2006 after having suffered physical and mental torture. Even after my release, the local police continued harassing me. They made it quite clear that if I refused to renounce Falun Gong I would be arrested and sentenced again. I was left with no alternative but to escape from China.

The CCP Attempts to Recruit Me as a Secret Agent

At 7:30 p.m. on March 1, 2005 I went to deliver experience sharing articles downloaded from the Minghui/Clearwisdom website to fellow practitioners. However, within less than two minutes of entering the practitioner's home, about eight policemen broke into his home; only one wore a police uniform. Without showing any ID they ransacked the practitioner's home and arrested us. The police took my keys, pushed me into another car and went straight to my home. They confiscated my computer, two printers, dozens of Falun Gong books, hundreds of CDs, two address books and some other items. At about 12:45 a.m., they took me to the local police station. At 9:00 a.m. I was taken to the Haidian Police Sub-station. At about 4:00 p.m. I was locked into Cell No. 7, Section No. 1 at the sub-station's detention center.

This is a cell of about 20 square meters in size. It has a very high ceiling, and there was only one dim light. In this cell there was a one-meter square toilet and a half square meter area for storing quilts. A total of 21 people were locked into this cell. There was only one bed, which was 4 x 2 meters in size and made of bricks. The so-called bed was only 15 millimeters above ground and covered with a very thin layer of planks. There was no hot water all year round, and we could only take one shower per week. Each shower was only three minutes and several people shared one shower. We put our clothes back on when wet, because of the time limit. Every morning the breakfast was a cup of rice water, some preserved pickles and a piece of steamed bread. Lunch and dinner were boiled cabbages leaves and steamed bread. The leaves were not washed, leaving a layer of sand in the bowl. When sleeping, one could only sleep sideways with one's chest pressing close to another's back. It was very uncomfortable and our bodies ached after getting up. As a matter of fact, sleep was rather painful.

March in Beijing was still very cold. However, the camp guards opened all the windows and we had to sleep in the cold draft. We therefore had to cover our head with towels. This not only kept us warm, but also blocked the dust falling from the ceiling fan. There was a thick layer of dust on the fan, which was blown all over the cell.

Since I was arrested at the fellow practitioner's home I had not slept for one day and night, and I was exhausted. I was interrogated from 8:30 p.m. until midnight. Liu Dafeng was in charge of my case, and he took me to his office. Upon entering the office he began swearing at me with very dirty and obscene language. He kicked me and swore at me while taking notes. Finally, he asked me to sign the record. I refused. He swung my head against the wall by pulling my clothes and kicked me. I told him that Falun Gong practitioners all tried to be good people in accordance with the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." I had not done anything wrong nor committed any crimes so I refused to sign. The next day I reported to guard Wang Wei that Liu Dafeng beaten and swore at me. I asked to change to another preliminary hearing officer. Wang said OK. However, that evening it was still Liu Dafeng who interrogated me. He swore at me as before and ignored my request. I went on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment. This went on for three days. On the fourth day, the detainees who were held in the same cell (non-practitioners) cried and begged me to eat something, as otherwise I would be force-fed, and they had to help with the forced feeding. They were the ones who would hold the practitioners' hands and feet and force-feed the practitioner with very thick salt water (they only mixed it with a little bit of milk power). These inmates said they didn't want to watch us being tortured. This was because after force feedings every practitioner had blood all over their face. I strongly requested that they change the preliminary hearing officer, but they refused.

After the second week at the National Security Group of Haidian District Police Department brought in four collaborators in an attempt to "transform" me. It lasted three days, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. Finally, Yang Jian, head of the National Security Group, came in person. He told me that other practitioners were not treated like this and that he did not want to sentence me. At the time I did not understand what he really meant. I thought it was because I had relatives abroad. In late July, 2005 he repeatedly came to the forced labor camp to talk to me and clearly spelled out their intentions. He asked me to be a special agent. He promised me that if I agreed they would release me instantly. I refused.

In April 2005, they sentenced me to two years of forced labor without any legal procedure.

The Forced Labor Dispatch Center in Beijing

On April 12, 2005, I was taken to the Forced Labor Dispatch Center in Beijing. On the first day I was held in a separate cell. The guard nicknamed "King of Big Eye" was assigned to talk to me. In an attempt to force me to write a guarantee statement she talked to me for three hours. She sat on a chair cross-legged. However I was forced to stand in front of her with my hands resting at my sides and was ordered not to move. After she left I tried to move my legs and almost tripped, since my legs were too stiff to walk. At the time, there were two drug addicts in the cell who helped me walk. The "King of Big Eye" walked out without even turning her head.

Thereafter the "King of Big Eye" sent in four drug addicts who were ordered to force me to write a guarantee statement. I still had not written the statement by 10:00 p.m. Therefore, theses drug addicts began to swear at me. One of them acted shamelessly by resting one arm on my shoulder and leaning against me. Another one shouted at me and asked me to sit in the position they wanted. This was to sit like a child on a small plastic chair with knees and legs closed together, hands resting on my knees and back straightened up. Just at that time a guard named Li ordered the drug addicts to carry in a bed plank, which meant that I could go to sleep. I asked these drugs addicts how they would sleep. They said that they could only sit for the night. I said to them, "You can sleep. Let me sit here." They said, "We don't dare to do so. The guards would punish us."

The camp guards made use of the drug addicts to punish Falun Gong practitioners. However, when the practitioners refused to write a guarantee statement or to renounce Falun Gong these guards would swear at the drug addicts and even punish them. This would force them to cruelly torture practitioners. Tang Jingjing, one of the guards at the 2nd Group of the Forced Labor Dispatch Center in Beijing once said to me, "You must remember, we as guards would not touch you, not even with a small finger, but we will make sure that someone else beats you."

Gao Zan and other drug addicts cruelly beat practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiuyun because she refused to write a guarantee statement. The two inmates pushed Ms. Zhang to the floor and threw their weight on her arms with one on each side. Then they began to pull her eyelashes. Ms. Zhang Xiuyun screamed for help, as it was very painful. Everyone on that floor heard the screams. Another practitioner's face was slapped, kicked and she was forced to stand all night. Every time I passed the boiler room I could see her stand facing the window. In order to have their terms reduced and not be punished by the guards, theses drug addicts would stop at nothing. They tried every to force the practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. One day when I talked about the spread of Falun Gong abroad, the head of my group did not stop me in time. Therefore, she was punished and had to squat down with both hands holding her legs and her head in a bowing position. The real purpose was to incite hatred among the inmates against the practitioners so that they would stop at nothing to torture practitioners. Zhao Hui, a drug addict, once told me that the current head of the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp, Chen Li, ordered her to torture a practitioner who refused to renounce Falun Gong. She punched and kicked the practitioner. When these drug addicts beat the practitioners they all chose the farthest end of the corridor or the guards' office. The guards would turn the music up to full volume in an attempt to cover up their crimes.

At the Forced Labor Dispatch Center these drug addicts were able to walk around, chat and associate with other groups freely. However, the practitioners, even if they were in the same group, could not talk to each other or sit together. When sitting, an inmate sat in between the practitioners.

The guards at the Forced Labor Dispatch Center were all very greedy. If they found the practitioners carrying valuables or anything they took a fancy to, they would confiscate them in the name of "contraband" goods and then put them into their own pockets. Two hairpins I had with me were from Great Britain. The guards confiscated them in the name of "contraband" goods.

Besides the so-called contraband goods, they also confiscated any written complaints when they searched the camp. All this showed that they were very much afraid for their crimes being exposed to the public.

If you needed to use the restroom or get some water, you had to shout out, "Report" as long as there was a door. Before the three meals we had to recite the rules and regulations known as the 30 provisions for detainees, and also sing two songs. When getting the food we also had to say, "I am xxx from xxx Team" and words like "thank you, team leader." This was not all. We had to walk on the right side of the passageway and had to look straight ahead. This was to force us to remember we were the detainees who were to be taken to a forced labor camp. We had roll call every morning and evening. Whenever one's name was called, one had to squat down holding the legs with both hands. One would not be allowed to raise one's head, nor look directly at the guard who was doing the roll call. No matter how cold the weather, we had to use cold water for washing our faces and brushing our teeth, and we were only allowed three minutes. We were allowed to take a shower and wash our clothes once per week. Normally we were not allowed to wash our underwear and socks. Sometimes, there were 12 to 16 people in a 28-square-meter cell. After the roll call every evening all the doors were locked so that 12 to 16 people would have to urinate and defecate in plastic basins. As a result, the cell would stink.

    Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp

On April 25, 2005, I was transferred to the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. I was handcuffed and had to put my hands on the front seat and lower my head. This was to humiliate me.

I was taken to the 5th Group. During the first two weeks, two female guards were responsible for brainwashing me. One of them was Zhang Sumin and the other had the surname Guo (I forgot the rest of her name.) They wanted me to renounce Falun Gong. They talked to me in turns from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Since I refused, beginning on the third week, Group  Head Chen tried in person to force me to renounce Falun Gong. She deprived me of sleep. I was only allowed to sleep for two or three hours per day. In the evening I felt very cold while being forced to sit on a small plastic stool. I requested to put on more clothes but Chen did not allow it. When Chen left the cell I hurried to put on one more layer of clothes. When I was buttoning up my clothes Chen came in. She said, "You tried to make a scene. Now you lie on the floor." They always humiliated steadfast practitioners. The language they used in forcing the practitioners to renounce Falun Gong was exactly the same. The same was true concerning the Tiananmen Square Immolation story. It was obvious that they were trained. Chen forced me to watch many video programs. They all framed and slandered Falun Gong. Everyone else would have a break at noon, including all the camp guards. However, I was forced to get up at 4:30 a.m. and go to bed after midnight. At noon I was forced to sit on a child's plastic chair and watch slanderous video programs over and over again.

Later, Chen talked to me almost daily from morning until 2:00 a.m. the next morning. She slept in the morning. Sleep deprivation was one of the torture methods she used on practitioners. The normal sleep time was from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. One 61-year-old practitioner was suffering from high blood pressure. However, Che used the same method to torture her. The older lady told me that midnight was considered early for her to go to sleep. Chen usually would not let her go to bed until 2:00 a.m. After one week of this kind of torture, this older practitioner fell and lost consciousness, and required emergency treatment at the hospital. At the 5th Group everyone else could wash his or her clothes twice a week. However, I was only allowed to wash my clothes once a week and it had to be done at bedtime, which was only a few hours. Anyone who did not renounce Falun Gong had to suffer torture.

After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the CCP used its power and the media under its control to fabricate numerous lies to slander Falun Gong and its founder Mr. Li Hongzhi. The CCP has been arresting and sending steadfast practitioners to forced labor camps. The CCP minions tortured practitioners both physically and mentally. They have a large arsenal of methods in persecuting practitioners secretly because of strong international pressure. On the surface there were no injuries. However the mental wounds were far more harmful to the practitioner.

In September 1, 2006, I was released when my forced labor term expired. The so-called freedom did not give me freedom of mind. I carried a heavy cross in my heart, because I said something that I did not want to say and did something that I did not want to do. Against my will, I went against my conscience in exchange for release. As a person with conscience, I would rather die than live.

In June 2005, with the direct interference of the forced labor camp, I was sent to the so-called Intensive Assault Unit. This unit was established specifically to deal with steadfast practitioners. Basically, practitioners who had not been "transformed" within six months would be taken to that unit. However I was sent there two weeks after arriving at the forced labor camp. Later I learned that the real reason was because the National Security Group wanted the forced labor camp to force me to renounce Falun Gong as soon as possible. They intended to send me overseas as their spy.

The "Intensive Assault Unit" Is Hell on Earth

In the "Intensive Assault Unit" there are all sorts of torture methods and each one is worse than the next.

In the beginning I was tortured with the "High Board" torture method. This high board was 30 centimeters (12 in.) in diameter and made of plastic. The surface was very rough and the victim would sit on the board for 18 hours a day. There were very strict rules on the sitting position. One had to have legs and knees close together with both hands on top of the knees and the back had to be straight. One could not close the eyes, or move. When I wanted to move I had to report to drug addict Xue Mei, the one who monitored me, and ask for permission. If I was thirsty I had to say, "Report to monitor. I want to have some water." If the drug addict said, "Go ahead," then I could pick up a cup and drink water. When I finished I had to say, "Report to monitor. I want to put the cup down." If the drug addict said, "Move!" then I could put the cup down. If I felt an itch, I had to report to the drug addict, "Report to monitor. I want to scratch myself." If she said, "Move" then I could scratch. If she said no, then I could not move. A practitioner had no right to move or stretch at will. No matter what action, I had to report and ask for permission first. If I moved without permission they would swear at or beat me.

One practitioner was beaten black and blue by three drug addicts. This practitioner was sentenced to one year and six months of forced labor in 2001. This time, she was sentenced to two years and six months of forced labor. She was seriously ill as a result of the inhuman torture. Her husband had been sentenced to five years of forced labor in 2001. The high board was one of the torture methods the perpetrators used to ruin us physically. After one or two weeks many practitioners' buttocks festered. One practitioner who was transferred in from the 4th Group was subjected to this inhuman torture. Drug addict Ma Qiang even placed a piece of paper in between this practitioner's legs. If the paper fell down it meant her legs were not close together. When this happened Ma Qiang would yell and shout at her. One day the practitioner requested to see Tang Jingjing, the guard who had responsibility for her. Ma Qiang stepped behind her and tried to strangle her with a towel. Some of the drug addicts and other detainees at the forced labor camp no longer had the hearts to witness this kind of physical and mental torture. They tried to persuade the practitioners to renounce Falun Gong, so they would no longer suffer such inhuman tortures. They said they found it very hard to be the personal cangues (1). If they treated the practitioners kindly then the guards would mistreat them. If they treated us badly they suffered a bad conscience. Some inmates who still had a conscience told me how the guards taught the drug addicts to torture the practitioners, how they ganged up and what method they would use. They hoped that I would help those practitioners, and they also expected me to expose this to the international community.

Then there was the hunger torture. The practitioners were not given enough to eat. For each of the three meals the practitioners were only given a half-piece of steamed sour bread and no other food, not even preserved pickles. After one week I became very skinny. I asked guard Li Ziping to increase the amount of food. Li told me that since I refused to renounce Falun Gong I was considered purposely resisting the CCP. Therefore, I would not be given enough to eat. As practitioners we do not have enemies. How can keeping one's belief be linked to resisting the party? The drug addicts would rather throw away the food they were unable to finish than give it to practitioners.

Depriving drinking water and restricting toilet visits were other tortures to which practitioners were subjected. I was taken to the "Intensive Assault Unit" in June. The temperature in Beijing in June reached 40 degrees Celsius (104o F). I was only give 500 mm (2 cups) of water per day. When I was thirsty I could only moisten my lips with this limited water. Besides that, restroom visits were restricted. I had to wait from thirty minutes to three hours to get permission to visit the restroom. Every time I needed to use the restroom, I had to report and then at least two drug addicts would follow me to the toilet. Practitioner Nan Xiuping, 55 years old, suffered from hemorrhoids and therefore restroom visits took a bit longer. Drug addict Niu Yuhong grabbed her hair from behind and pulled her up while grumbling and swearing. In order to force practitioners to give up their belief in Falun Gong, the CCP even used basic human needs to torture us.

We were not allowed to wash our hair, take showers or wash our clothes. Steadfast practitioners would only be allowed to wash clothes, take showers or wash their hair once in several months for up to six months. During the hot weather, when temperatures were at times over 40 degrees (104o F) in the cell, there was only one window open and the door was closed. We would sweat at all times. After two weeks my clothes became very smelly. I requested to wash my clothes, but my request was rejected. In addition, drug addict Xue Mei swore at me because I made the request.

We were monitored around the clock. At the "Intensive Assault Unit" I was locked in an isolation cell. Three drug addicts monitored us, each being assigned an eight-hour shift. They recorded every detail of my daily activities, such as at what time I drank water, how much I drank, and when I used the toilet, and whether I was passing water or a stool. If it was passing water then how much did I pass and what was the color of the urine, yellow or clear. If I was having a bowel movement, they recorded whether it was dry or liquid. What was my facial expression? Whether I was happy or not happy? What did I say? When I was in bed did I lie flat or on the side and when did I turn over? The purpose of this detailed record was used as a reference for finding a psychological breakthrough. Because the British government showed concern regarding my treatment and with the help from overseas practitioners, on November 24, 2005, the UN special rapporteur on torture named me as one of their interviewees. Before the UN staff came, Du Jingbin, head of the 2nd Group, talked to me and deceived me by saying that reporters from a foreign TV station wanted to interview me. During my time at the forced labor camp I often saw foreigners come and do some recording. I did not want to help CCP, so I rejected the interview. At the same time Du told me clearly that the camp authorities did not want me to be interviewed. Before the UN staff came the camp, the authorities had already taken four bus-loads filled with practitioners to other places. They only returned the day after the UN people left. If the forced labor camps are as nice as what the CCP claims, then why don't they dare to have detainees interviewed and why did they have to move practitioners to other places?

The camp authorities did not allow their families to visit steadfast practitioners. These practitioners were also not allowed to have a paper or pen. Therefore, it was impossible for them to write appeal letters or letters to report the illegal practices at the camp.

During the preliminary stages of the persecution, camp authorities extended Falun Gong practitioners' detention terms if they refused to renounce Falun Gong by the end of their terms. Despite international pressure, they continued to conceal their persecution. Later, practitioners who refused to renounce Falun Gong were released at the end of their terms, but officials and police from the 610 Office and local police station were waiting outside the camp gate. They took the practitioners who had just been released to a brainwashing center. If they still refused to be "transformed" at the brainwashing center, then they would be sentenced again to forced labor. Guard Zhang Sumei from the 5th Group talked to me about it in person. Later when I was at the "Intensive Assault Unit" one drug addict told me the same thing. This was because she saw with her own eyes that practitioners were sent back to the forced labor camp not long after they were released. In June 2006, guards from the forced labor camp announced through a written document, "As long as the practitioners refused to be 'transformed' their terms at the forced labor camp would be extended."

    Practitioners Who Were Inhumanly Tortured

Because of physical and mental torture, my health was ruined. After one year and six months at the forced labor camp I had lost much of my eyesight, my memory had deteriorated and my hair had turned gray. The inhuman torture took a toll on my body. I even came close to a mental collapse at one time. I suffered increased interstitial fluid in my organs due to prolonged malnutrition and sitting on a high board for a long period of time. Even after being released from the forced labor camp I had difficulty walking unaided for a long time. I persisted in doing the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, which helped me recover my health.

Practitioner Ms. Nan Xiuping suffered inhuman torture at the 2nd Group. Every day she had to sit on the "high board" for more than ten hours, was not given enough to eat and was not allowed to wash her hair or take a shower for many months. One day when I met her in the corridor I saw that her hair was stuck together. Drug addicts Dong Jing, Ma Feifei, Wang Shuangshuang, and Niu Yuhong were Ms. Nan's personal cangues. They beat her, swore at her and did not allow her to wipe her nose. Her legs were covered with edema from sitting on the "high board" for a long time. She was imprisoned in a cell without sunlight for a long time. In winter it was very cold and her feet were inflamed from exposure to the cold weather. She requested to get her cotton-padded shoes from the storeroom, but her request was rejected. Since the cell was extremely cold the camp authorities supplied the drug addicts with four cotton-padded mattresses and two quilts each, while Ms. Nan only had a paper-thick mattress and a very thin quilt. Since Ms. Nan Xiuping was very firm in her belief she was transferred to the 3rd Group.

Between July and August, 2006 it was extremely hot. One older practitioner suffered from heatstroke and vomited continuously. She was admitted to the camp hospital. She felt very dizzy and needed to lie down. However, the doctors ordered her to walk back and forth in the passage ten times. It was extremely inhuman that the doctors tortured an older patient who had been suffering from high blood pressure and heatstroke like this. After the older lady finished ten laps, the doctors claimed that she had walked only three laps and needed to walk another seven laps.

Another older practitioner shouted, "Falun Dafa is good" in the corridor. Drug addict Yu Yanhong beat her until the practitioner cried for help, awakening others who were sleeping. Yu Yanhong told me later that if she did not beat the practitioner the group head would have punished her. The older practitioner was then transferred to the "Intensive Training Group," also called the "Strict Discipline Team." She was locked up in an attic cell that was less than two square meters in size.

After arriving abroad, I learned from the Minghui/Clearwisdom website that organs were being harvested from living Falun Gong practitioners. This jogged my memory about my experience at the Forced Labor Dispatch Center in Beijing. On my arrival I had a full medical check up, which included a chest x-ray, blood test and gynecological checkup, and a thorough examination of the scars on my body. I had another medical checkup when I was transferred to the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. In June 2006, before I was released, I had yet another medical checkup. It sends cold shivers down my spine when recalling the experience. If I were still there I might be the next victim of forced organ harvesting.

    Slave Labor

Practitioners who were "transformed" and who renounced Falun Gong were still forced to perform slave labor. Sometimes we made handicrafts and other types of jobs. In the summer of 2006 we were required to pack sugar. There were flies everywhere in the workshop and it was a very unhygienic facility. Practitioners put sugar into bags and then sealed the bags, one bag at a time. I talked with the manager of the factory and asked him how much he paid for every bag of sugar. He said a few cents. The practitioners were paid one cent per bag. In summer the practitioners were forced to work in the fields. Non-practitioners were assigned to act as the practitioners' personal cangues, and they did not have to perform forced labor. They also did not have to attend the "study" sessions. They only had to take the exam. I did not see the camp authorities ask them to take part in the education sessions. The minute they entered the forced labor camp they were trained in how to torture practitioners. A non-practitioner detainee told me, "We are here merely to work, instead of being educated through labor." The drug addicts and other inmates who were sent to the forced labor camp for the very first time were not favorites of the camp guards, because they did not know how to be personal cangues. Only those drug addicts like Xue Mei who had been sent to the forced labor camp three times and Ma Qiang (four times) would win the guards' favor because they knew how to torture practitioners. Both Xue Mei and Ma Qiang were the enforcers among the drug addicts. These two became personal cangues of steadfast practitioners, those who refused to be "transformed." Therefore, they were promoted to "green card holder," which meant having many privileges.

When I was at the 5th Group the practitioners were forced to knit wool gloves for export, and everyone was required to finish one pair per day. As a matter of fact it was very difficult to fulfill the quota. Therefore, we had to cooperate with each other. Some were responsible for knitting the wrist and some the fingers. The fee for a pair of gloves was 97 cents. We had to work during the day and recite the answers for examination questions during our sleeping time.

The CCP Arrests and Imprisons Falun Gong Practitioners at Random, Especially Older Practitioners

In China today, it seems that the forced labor camps were set up specifically to torture practitioners. The ratio of practitioners to non-practitioners was 80 to 20. When I was at the 5th Group, Zhang Sumin told me that they had contacts at the police station. Whenever there were not enough non-practitioner detainees they asked the police to arrest and send some in.

There were seven groups at Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp, with about 120 people in each group. Each squad had 12 people. They were imprisoned in a cell of 28 square meters. Those at the 3rd and the 6th Groups usually were regular prisoners. During the days when the communist regime rampantly arrested practitioners, seven groups were not enough. Therefore, they added a group specifically to jail practitioners. Since the forced labor camps in Beijing had limited capacity, many practitioners were transferred to other parts of the country.

At least 70 percent of the practitioners detained at Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp were women who were over 60 years old. Around 30 to 40 percent of the practitioners had been detained more than twice. During the morning exercise time you could see that most of them were gray-haired.

Many people did not understand why they couldn't practice the Falun Gong exercises at home. They thought they would not be arrested if they practiced only at home. However, this was not true. The majority of practitioners I met were arrested at home. Practitioner Ms. Li Lanping, 60, was looking after her grandson at home. When the officials from the local 610 Office went to her home and asked if she still practiced Falun Gong she was arrested after answering yes, and sentenced to two years and six month of forced labor. She is still at the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp. This is the third time she was arrested.

The police arrested practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiaojing at her workplace and she was sentenced to two years and six months of forced labor. Her first arrest was in 2001, when she was sentenced to one year of forced labor. Her husband was on active service at the time. Due to the severe pressure from the CCP, he divorced Ms. Zhang. When Ms. Zhang was arrested, her over 80-year-old paralyzed mother was left uncared for. The old woman passed away shortly afterwards, without being able to see her daughter one last time. Not long after Ms. Zhang Xiaojing was sentenced to forced labor, her son was sentenced to several years in prison for practicing Falun Gong.

When I was first taken to the forced labor camp, practitioner Ms. Su Wei and I were imprisoned in the 5th Group. She was released in September 2005. After I came to Great Britain, I learned from the Minghui/Clearwisdom website that she was arrested again two months after her release. This time she was sentenced to two years and six months of forced labor (the first time she was sentenced to two years of forced labor).

Another older practitioner was arrested on her way to the vegetable market and sentenced to two years of forced labor. At the time of arrest she was 65 years old.

    Note:

    (1) "Personal cangues" -- Cangue, the name of an instrument of torture, is now used to indicate a person designated to supervise the behavior of practitioners

The Police in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province Arrest Six Practitioners using the Excuse of Olympic Games

On April 14, six local Falun Gong practitioners from Shanhaiguan District, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province were illegally arrested by rogue police officers. On April 28, the couple Mr. Liu Changfu and Ms. An Yumin, Mr. Yang Xiaoyong, Mr. Wei Danquan, and Ms. Cheng Chao, were sent to a forced labor camp. Meanwhile, Mr. Zheng Zhicheng, the husband of Ms. Cheng Chao is still being detained at the 1st Detention Center of Qinhuangdao City, and it is reported that the authorities plan to send him to prisonAfter the policemen of Shanhaiguan District arrested the practitioners on April 28, they informed the relatives of the practitioners that they must sign relevant documents for the judicial procedures. Their intentions and tricks were extremely contemptible. Without any conscience, they even held a party to celebrate their "accomplishment" and received bonuses. It is said by an insider of the police establishment that the higher authorities (here referring to Hebei Province) appropriated funds of 100,000 yuan for them in order to stop practitioners from utilizing satellites to clarify the truth of Falun Gong before the 17th CCP Congress and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Therefore, the police had gone on patrols and monitored practitioners for two days before they finally arrested and fabricated a case against them.

It was also reported that Mr. Liu Changfu, Mr. Yang Xiaoyong and Mr. Wei Danquan are being severely tortured. It is likely that they were abducted from a hospital and taken to Baoding Forced Labor Camp, where they are going to be held for one and a half years. Ms. An Yumin and Ms. Cheng Chao are being detained at Kaiping Forced Labor Camp of Tangshan City. Ms. An Yumin is going to be kept there for one and a half years, and Ms. Cheng Chao for fifteen months.

On April 14, 2007 Zhang Deyue and Fu Yong, the policemen of Shanhaiguan District Police Department, together with several other policemen from the Xiguan Police Station and Daonan Police Station arrested the couple Mr. Liu Changfu and Ms. An Yumin, Mr. Yang Xiaoyong, Mr. Wei Danquan, and the couple Mr. Zheng Zhicheng and Ms. Cheng Chao. At the same time, the police searched their houses and confiscated their property, including their personal computers, printers, and the materials for truth-clarification. Afterwards, Mr. Zheng Zhicheng was detained at the 1st Detention Center of Qinhuangdao City , and other practitioners were detained at the 3rd Detention Center of Shanhaiguan District.

On the morning of April 23, relatives of the practitioners went to Shanhaiguan District Police Department to inquire about the case and to request the release of their innocent family members; however, the head of the police station, Zhao Ran, evaded their requests with the excuse that she was recently appointed. Later the guard there said he was ordered to keep the family members from entering the station. As the family members were making their request, Police Officers Zhang Deyue and Fu Yong, who were involved in the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners, began to equivocate and act rudely. Finally they became speechless and left sheepishly.

The policemen even deceived the relatives of Falun Gong practitioners by telling them that they were going to release Mr. Yang Xiaoyong and Ms. Cheng Chao after their detention terms of 15 days expired. On the evening of April 28, Fu Yong secretly and unlawfully transferred them to a forced labor camp.

The Arrest of Mr. Li Wenzhi from Jilin Province Leaves His Young Son with No One to Care for Him

Dongguang Town Police Station in Yanbian, Jilin Province arrested Mr. Li Wenzhi on April 18 because he practiced Falun Gong. As a result, Mr. Li Wenzhi's 10-year-old son has no one to care for him. The police even threatened to send the child to a nursing home for seniors where the conditions are terrible or give him away for adoption.

Mr. Li Wenzhi, 39, was a labor worker from Da'an Forestry of the Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the police and his employer came repeatedly to Mr. Li's home to harass him, attempting to force him to give up Falun Gong. His parents and wife were worried and scared because of this.

In June 2003, Mr. Li Wenzhi was arrested by the police from Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau in Wangqing County, and was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp. He was later released, as he had bone fractures in both arms. After Mr. Li was released from the jail, the police and his employer kept harassing him. As a result, his wife could not endure such great pressure and the two of them were forced to divorce in 2005.

Ever since then, Mr. Li Wenzhi and his son relied on each other for survival. In order for the child to go to school, they moved to Dongguang Town in Wangqing County. However, the Political and Judicial Committee of the Tianqiaoling Forestry Bureau and the Secretary General of his employer drove to Dongguang Town to continue harassing and threatening them.

At around 10:00 a.m. on April 18, 2007, four policemen from Dongguang Town, Wangqing County suddenly broke into his home and forcibly arrested Mr. Li Wenzhi. They illegally searched his home and confiscated his computer, Falun Gong books and truth-clarifying materials. On the same day, police from the Dongguang Town Police Station transferred Mr. Li to the National Security Team of the Wangqing County. Currently he is jailed at the Wangqing County Detention Center.

It was learned that Mr. Li Wenzhi was arrested this time because a classmate of Mr. Li's son reported him to the police. The organization that persecuted Falun Gong had gone to the school and publicized, "Whoever reports Falun Gong will be rewarded."

Mr. Li Wenzhi's son is only ten years old and now has no one to take care of him. Under such great pressure, he cries often and yearns for his father's return. He can hardly eat and does not want to go to school.

Some kind-hearted people brought the child to Dongguang Town Police Station and asked the police to deal with this. The police made no other choice but to take the child to his grandparents' place, which was seventy to eighty kilometers away from Wangqing County on April 23. The child's grandparents are seventy to eighty years old, both are physically very weak, and there is no school in the countryside. When the police tried to force them to take the child, since the grandparents were not financially able to do so, his older grandparents could not keep him. The police then took the child to his mother, trying to force her to take him. However since the mother was re-married and had her own child, her husband's family refused to take care of him. The police could only take the child back. Now the police Station has threatened to send the child to a nursing home or to find someone who can adopt him.

Ms. Ma Youjuan Is Illegally Detained, Her Non-Practitioner Father Sent to a Forced Labor Camp

Mr. Ma Yiqing, 60 years old, is a farmer from Kong village, Qixian Town, Linqu County, Weifang City, Shandong Province. He does not practice Falun Gong but he is an honest and kind person.

Ma Yiqing's 30-year-old daughter, Ma Youjuan, is a hairdresser. Her husband, Yu Kejun, is a farmer in Changle County. Both of them practice Falun Gong and before the persecution they had a harmonious life together. However, after Jiang Zemin and the evil CCP (Chinese Communist Party) began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, they were detained several times because they did not want to give up their practice of "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance". In July of 1999, Yu Kejun was detained for about one month by the local police station and detention center because he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In November of the same year, after Ma Youjuan had a baby, Yu Kejun was detained for over ten days. In October 2000, Yu Kejun was detained again for over ten days and was fined one thousand yuan. In the meantime, the township government illegally withheld the certificate for their house (they still haven't return it). In January 2001, Yu Kejun was sent to the Brainwashing Class in the Changle County Forced Labor Camp and was persecuted there for about one month. In August of 2002, the township police station went to Yu's home and tried to take Yu Kejun and Ma Youjuan away. Since then, they were forced to become homeless to avoid persecution.

On October 15, 2006, after being homeless for over four years, Ma Youjuan and Yu Kejun were arrested by the Hanting National Security Group and Hanting West City Police under the order of the Weifang City National Security Group. They illegally ransacked their home and took away their Falun Gong books and other valuable items. The police even took the items from the drawers in Ma Youjuan's hair salon. They also took away their home key. In the evening of the same day, their eight-year-old daughter was also taken to the West City Police Station and detained there. The following day, Ma Youjuan's father, Ma Yiqing, took the child home. The couple were both detained. One month later, Yu Kejun was sent to a forced labor camp for a year, while Ma Youjuan has been detained at the Weifang City Detention Center to this day.

Since Ma Youjuan was arrested, Ma Yiqing went to the Weifang City Police Station and Hanting Branch Police Station several times. Each time, the police either did not allow him to visit or rejected his request. Ma Yiqing asked some people to help to look for his daughter and was extorted over 260,000 yuan in total. However his daughter is still detained.

On April 5, 2007, after 9 o'clock in the morning, Ma Yiqing and his son-in-law Yu Kejun went to the office of the National Security Group in the Weifang City Police Station and asked them to release Ma Youjuan, and return their property. Right after they entered the office (there were three police in the office), even before they began to talk, one of the police berated them loudly, "Did you register your names in the hallway?" Yu Kejun said, "Yes. We did." Another policeman shouted at them, "Who asked you to come in? Get out!" At that time, a short policeman slammed his hand on the desk and shouted, "Get out!"

Ma Yiqing thought about his daughter who was detained without any reason only because she wanted to be a good person. He had heard that the Procurator had rejected the materials sent by the police about Ma Youjuan because they did not have enough evidence. However, the police still wanted to fabricate something to send his daughter to prison with. Now the police were so rude to them, he could not calm down. He also slammed his hand on the desk twice and said, "I haven't gotten a chance to say anything yet. Why are you kicking us out? This is the office of the police station. It is not your home." Then, he sat down on a nearby chair. The short policeman was mad and shouted "This is a chair in the office of the police station! You cannot sit on it! Get out!" Then, he dragged the chair out from under the old man's body. At that time, police officer Ding Jinguang and a tall policeman walked over and surrounded both of them and pushed them outside. Ma Yiqing would not leave. Ding Jinguang and two other police pushed him to the floor. Two people dragged his feet and one person grabbed his hand and dragged him outside. While struggling, Ma Yiqing grabbed the tall policeman's sweater. The tall policeman was mad and strongly slapped the old man's face. When they dragged him to the door, he grasped the door frame. One of the police strongly shut the door , intending to smash his hands. Yu Kejun saw this and blocked the door with his foot. Thus Ma Yiqing's hands were not crushed. Ma Yiqing shouted, "The police are beating people up!" The three police officers dragged him into the hallway. Ding Jinguang pressed down on Ma Yiqing's chest with his knee. Another policeman held down his hands. They stopped when the old man could not move.

The police shut the office door. They made a phone call near the elevator and asked Ge Kuanwen (the supervisor) and other police from the Dongming Police Station to come. They forcibly put the handcuffs on Ma Yiqing and the police took them to the office of the National Security Group and forced them to squat. The police beat up Yu Kejun by pulling his hair and beating his head. Then the police drove them to the Dongming Police Station and locked them in two separate rooms and handcuffed their hands on the heating pipes. Ge Kuanwen and other police interrogated them separately. Finally, they tricked Ma Yiqing, who could not see clearly, into signing his name on the fabricated and distorted notes. On the same day, around 6 o'clock in the afternoon, Yu Kejun was released. However, Ma Yiqing was sent to a detention center and detained for seven days.

During the morning of April 11, Ge Kuanwen from the Dongming Police Station called Yu Kejun and asked him to come to the police station and once again interrogated him. Around 6 o'clock in the afternoon, the police presented a fabricated note (he removed the paragraph about beating up Ma Yiqing and pushing him to the floor). They threatened to send him to a forced labor camp and forced Yu Kejun to sign his name. On the afternoon of April 12, Yu Kejun and his 2nd elder brother went to the detention center to pick up Ma Yiqing. The detention center told them that he had been taken away by the Dongming Police. They then rushed to the Dongming Police Station. There, they were told that Ma Yiqing had been sent to the Changle Forced Labor Camp for a one year term.

On April 13, Yu Kejun's 2nd elder brother went to the Changle Forced Labor Camp to visit Ma Yiqing. Even the police in the forced labor camp felt that it was senseless and said they had never heard of a person being sent to a forced labor camp because of that.

Yu Kejun's daughter, who is eight years old now, has to live with her grandfather (on her mother's side) (Her grandparents on her father's side are too old to take care of her. Her grandmother on her mother's side had to take care of a three-year old granddaughter.) Now, her grandfather on her mother's side has been sent to a forced labor camp. Her father goes out to work daily at a construction job. He has to leave home early in the morning and comes back home very late at night and his working hours are very long. With no other options, this little girl, who is only a first grade elementary student, has to take care of herself. She carries a key to her home and during lunch time, she comes home and prepares instant noodles to eat.

The CCP's Persecution of Falun Gong in Yaozidian Town, Shandong Province

Over the past seven years, driven by profits and self-interest, 610 Office officials and Yaozidian Town government agents have been tarnishing the laws of China by following orders from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan. Led by the head of the 610 Office, the secretary of the local CCP Political and Judiciary Committee Wang Sike, Wang Zhaocai, and Qiu Chunbiao ordered over 50 people from the Yaozidian Town Police Station, the Land Management Office, the Industrial and Commercial Office, a birth control office, the broadcasting station, the cultural station, the educational committee, and hospitals to form six groups. Each group was sent to put pressure on officials in 18 villages, and harassed over 100 Falun Gong practitioners, including new practitioners and seniors.

Under the CCP's mandate with regards to Falun Gong practitioners to "ruin their reputation, bankrupt them financially, and annihilate them physically," and the policy that, "If they die while being beaten, we'll just say they killed themselves," well-planned brainwashing sessions were set up to try to force practitioners to give up their beliefs, and write the Three Statements. The CCP used propaganda from CCTV and other media to deceive people and incite those who do not know that Falun Dafa is good to commit crimes against practitioners. The CCP has connived and instigated people to ambush practitioners in their homes, and to monitor, follow, and report on practitioners. Such activities will eventually cause physical and mental breakdown.

When practitioners are arrested, the torture they suffer is brutal. Many methods are used, such as making threats, terrorizing, sleep deprivation, forcing practitioners to stay in one position for a long time, beating them with wooden batons, rubber batons, or batons studded with nails, leaving them exposed to the hot sun, pouring cold water on them in freezing temperatures followed by exposure to cold air from an electric fan, forbidding practitioners to use the bathroom, forcing them to endure brainwashing sessions, and making them do forced labor. In addition, practitioners' homes are ransacked, and their families are fined and terrorized. After they return home from detention, they have to report to the head of the village every day. People in charge of the village often break into practitioners' homes, which disturbs the practitioners' neighbors.

Since the persecution began in July 1999, this group of people in Yaozidian Town has organized brainwashing sessions twice, sent 21 practitioners to brainwashing centers located out of town (eight were sent to Linyi Brainwashing Center, five to Fengjiazizhuan, one to Huangshan, and seven to Wangcun), and sent 6 people to forced labor camps (three to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp and three to Jinan Women's Forced Labor Camp). Twenty-five practitioners were sent to Linyi Detention Center, over 30 were detained at Yaozidian Police Station, and over 100 practitioners were taken from their homes. Practitioners' homes have been ransacked numerous times and cash has been confiscated (one estimate of the total amount taken is 182,090 yuan, of which only a small portion was returned). Under the CCP's rule, five practitioners in Yaozidian Town have died after giving up cultivation out of fear, whereupon they experienced a relapse in serious health problems. Many of the local practitioners used to suffer from many illnesses, and spent a lot of money on treatments, but could not be cured. Their illnesses were only cured after they began practicing Falun Gong. The financial losses suffered by families and the mental strain as a result of the persecution are immeasurable. One practitioner, Zhang Zhiyi from Fengtaizhuang Village, is being illegally detained in a forced labor camp.

All of these accounts are only the tip of the iceberg in the persecution; there are many more truths waiting to be exposed.

    Yaodianzi Brainwashing Center

The main person in charge at the Yaodianzi Brainwashing Center is Wang Sike. When the persecution first began in 1999, he was the secretary of the Yaodianzi Township CCP Political and Judiciary Committee and head of the 610 Office, Gao Zhenguo was the secretary of the Yaodianzi Township CCP Committee, and Jiang Shudong was the head of Yaodianzi Police Station.

On July 20, 1999, Wang Sike and Gao Zhenguo actively participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners when they brought together 50 people from different subsidiaries and divided them into groups. One group of over 20 people was led by Wang Sike, a group of 12 was led by Xiang Tianrui, and a group led by Wu Guangchang included Wang Fuwen, Liu Zhisheng, He Naijun, and others. They broke into and ransacked practitioners' homes in over 10 villages including Qian Village, Dongshuiwang Village, Fengtai Village, Jizishang Village, Huangjiazhuang Village, Pozi Village, and Haizi Village. If the practitioners were not at home, the perpetrators broke in and confiscated Falun Gong books, Master  Li's portraits, cassette players, VCRs, sitting mats, and other items. They also set up a brainwashing center at Yaodianzi Township Central School that ran for seven days and held over 40 practitioners from across the township.

At the same time, cadres from the township and local villages went to other villages and harassed senior practitioners who had reduced mobility, were illiterate, or had only been practicing Falun Gong for a few days. The perpetrators swore at the elderly practitioners, beat them, or forced them to write a Guarantee Statement. Every practitioner was fined from 200 to 500 yuan.

At the brainwashing center, Wang Sike led Zhang Yudong, Shi Jun, Lin Shuzheng, Liu Zhen, Wu Gang, Cai Chengguang, Jiang Shudong, Lei Fudong and others to force practitioners to watch videos that defamed Master Li and Falun Gong. They swore at the practitioners and used every means to torture them.

Following orders from Wang Sike, two people beat practitioner Mr. Li Shufang until he was unconscious. Afraid of being held responsible, they hastily called a hospital to send emergency service and said that someone had just had a heart attack.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Shengjuan was beaten and terrorized by four people recruited by Du Jifen. When Shi Jun saw Ms. Zhang's face trembling, he slapped her and said, "Do you dare to shake again?" After she was sent home, Ms. Zhang was continually harassed and was terrified, which eventually resulted in a mental collapse, from which it took a year for her to recover. Ma Na, who was only 16, was forced to stand in the baking sun because she refused to read a paper that defamed Falun Gong.

Practitioners Wu Guangyu, Yuan Chunjie, Ma Xingxiang, and Huang Changming went to Beijing to appeal to the government but were sent back home. Later, they were held at Qishui Detention Center for three days, where they were each fined 50 yuan. They were taken to Yaozidian Police Station, where Zhang Yudong, Wuguang, and four people from the Land Management Office, under the direction of Wang Sike and Gao Zhengguo, took turns beating the practitioners, prevented them from sleeping, and tried to force them to write the Three Statements. Mr. Ma Xingxiang was hit in the face by Jiang Shudong, and his mouth bled a lot. After being tortured for three days, he was transferred to the Central School Brainwashing Center for more abuse. Before that, practitioners Zhang Shengfen and Huang Chuanjun were detained at the police station for seven days, where they were deprived of sleep and beaten. Practitioner Mr. Li Shanying was taken to the police station for one night, after Zhang Yudong and Chen Shibo took turns beating him. Mr. Li was transferred to the Central Brainwashing Center for further torture.

Over 40 practitioners were fined as much as 2,000 yuan, and also paid 30 yuan a day for living expenses, for which they received two small buns and one small block of processed vegetables. After they were sent home, officers kept harassing and taking pictures of them, and made them report to the village management team. Often, the perpetrators broke into practitioners' homes after midnight to conduct searches, which also disturbed their families. After arresting practitioners and holding them for many days, causing anguish and financial losses to their families, officers spread false rumors that said, "Look, people who practice Falun Gong don't care about their families, elders, or children, and nobody takes care of their land."

    Yaodianzi Education Committee Brainwashing Center

Those in charge of the Yaodianzi Education Committee Brainwashing Center are Wang Sike, Gao Zhenguo, Jiang Shudong and others.

On the afternoon of October 8, 1999, Wang Sike led 20 people in 6 police vehicles to Jizishan Village, where they arrested over 40 practitioners, who were sharing experiences in Falun Gong cultivation at the time, and took them to Yaozidian Education Committee yard, where they held the second brainwashing session.

On the same night, Qishui practitioners Yan Peiguang and Su Li were kicked repeatedly by a few people wearing leather shoes, and beaten until there were bruises all over their bodies. After practitioners Zhang Shengfen, Huang Chuanjun, and Tan Jikun were separately interrogated and beaten, they were taken to Qishui Detention Center and held for a month. After they returned, the practitioners were mistreated at the police station for many days, forced to write a Guarantee Statement, and fined 1,500 yuan.

Practitioners Huang Changming, Tan Shengzeng, and Qi Guiling refused to give up their belief. After being detained for many days, they were taken to Qishui Detention Center for 15 more days of detention. When they were taken back to the police station, they were beaten, and Huang Changming was forced to hand over 1,800 yuan.

Practitioner Ms. Tang Jikun's daughter Pan Jing was brutally tortured. Her hair was yanked so hard that clumps came out and her head was knocked against the wall. She was forced to hold a basin full of water on her arms and was made to stay in that position for a long time. After that, her legs were beaten with a board full of nails, which left her injured, bleeding, and unable to walk for days. Ms. Tang's husband, who is a non-practitioner, was detained for one night as well. Seeing that his daughter had been tortured and his wife was detained, he felt great despair and wanted to hang himself when he returned home. Luckily, a kind-hearted person rescued him, and he did not die.

In front of four CCP officials, Zhang Yongsheng beat practitioner Huang Chengmei on the hand until it swelled to the size of a softball, then he pulled Huang's hair, and said in a vicious way, "I will make you die tonight."

Practitioner Mr. Zhuang Shenfa was kicked by Lei Feidong numerous times. Mr. Zhuang became very dizzy when he was kicked in the head. Even so, Shi Jun forced him to hold a basin full of water and stand in a "horse step" position. If he moved or dropped the basin, he was beaten. When his daughter, who is not a practitioner, went to visit her father, she happened to see him being beaten, which caused her to scream. She was dragged away and beaten.

After practitioner Ms. Zhang Shengfen was kicked and beaten by Wang Kesi, she was kicked and beaten by Lei Fudong, Wu Gang, and a few others. They slapped her in the face, leaving her bleeding in her mouth and nose. After practitioner Mr. Ma Xingxiang was badly beaten by Zhang Yudong, Shijun, and others, he was beaten on the legs with a metal plate full of nails and also suffered all kinds of other physical abuse. Sixteen-year-old Ma Na was beaten by seven people, including Wang Sike, Zhang Yidong, and Cheng Shibo, until she fainted. She did not wake up for a long time.

At this brainwashing center, practitioner Zhang Yizhi was hit on the side of his body by Fangda Station staff member Wu Gang. Consequently, he could not move his torso. When Zhang Yuzhe was interrogated, Lei Fudong forced him to stand in the "horse step" position, and slapped him in the mouth with strips of bark from a tree. Practitioner Huang Yongcheng was beaten by Wu Gang, Zhang Yudong, Lei Fudong, Zhao Jiamei, and others. The practitioners had wounds all over their bodies, and were spitting up blood. They were also fined 1,200 yuan. Fifteen days after they were released, they still could not move about as their injuries were so severe.

Practitioner Yuan Chunjie was forced to stand in the "horse step" position for more than an hour, causing him to sweat a lot from fatigue and his body to shake. Practitioner Wu Guangyu, who had only been home for a short time, was taken by Jiang Shudong from the police station to a brainwashing center, where he was pushed to the ground by Wang Sike and beaten by another person. After that, Wang and Gao Zhengguo forced him to reveal that practitioner Huang Chuanju had been sharing with fellow practitioners. Then, they dusted off his clothes and said, "Don't let other people know that you were beaten, it would be shameful."

Over 30 practitioners suffered physical abuse to varying degrees. Everyone was fined, from 1,000 to 2,400 yuan, and no one was spared.

At the brainwashing center, six practitioners from Yuandongtou Village were picked up by people from their village and detained at a school for further mistreatment. One of these people said in a brutish way, "I'll bring you home and cook a meal with your flesh."

Year 2000, Continued Persecution at the Turn of the Century

On January 16, 2000, practitioners Mr. Zhang Yizhi and Mr. Zong Guiyun put small banners on their walls for the Chinese New Year. The banners read, "The Buddha-light illuminates everywhere and rectifies all abnormalities." After people saw the banners and reported them, Wang Sike, Tian Xiangrui, Cai Chenggang, Liu Peiyu, and others led a group of people to take the practitioners to the police station. Without saying a word, they pulled Mr. Zhang from the vehicle and started to beat him. Inside the Township Police Station, Wang Sike ordered Dou Yutan to beat Mr. Zong in the legs with a rubber club, which left his legs covered with bruises. Practitioner Ms. Qi Guiling was beaten in the legs with a metal shovel, and her whole body was beaten and bruised. While beating her, the perpetrators shouted, "You really can endure hardship!" They didn't release her until the following day.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Shengfen was deceived into going to the police station. At the station, an officers hit her with a rubber baton over 20 times and slapped her face a dozen times while Wang Sike sat and watched.

In January 2000, one month after practitioner Mr. Zhao Luquan was persecuted in Qishui Detention Center, wicked people from the township took him to Fengjiazhuang Brainwashing Center. On the way, the 80 yuan he had in his pocket was taken by Wu Gang, who spent it on alcohol. One month later, Mr. Zhao was fined 4,200 yuan. Because the people from the township would not share the money, Wu Gang beat and kicked Mr. Zhao. While taking him back, Wang Sike, Jiang Shudong, Lin Chunqing, and others pulled him out of the vehicle, shoved him to the ground, and began beating him. They said, "If your daughter were not in the car, we would end your life here."

In June 2000, practitioner Ms. Huang Chengmei was deceived into going to Yaozidian Police Station by officer Sun Yongsheng. Ms. Huang was forced to sit on the floor, and was then shocked with electric batons over 40 times. After being tortured all night, she was taken to Qishui Detention Center for 15 days. In October, she was taken to a brainwashing center in a school in Huangshan Township of Qishui by a group of people, including Ma Shuaishuai, led by Wang Sike.

On September 28, 2000, when practitioner Ms. Tan Shengnuan from Qianwujiazhuang Village went to Yuandongtou Village to visit her parents, five or six people, including Guo Jinghu, Zhang Zaiming, Huang Jinliang, and Zhang Yongqiang from the Comprehensive Management Office, broke into her brother's home at about 10:00 p.m. and ransacked it. They found Falun Gong books and truth-clarification materials, they beat and kicked everyone there, and they handcuffed the siblings and pulled them into a vehicle. That night, the practitioners were detained at the township government office. On September 29, without notification to their family members, the siblings were sent to Qishui Detention Center. Fifteen days after they were detained, on October 15, 2000, Ms. Tan was taken to Zibo City Wangcun Detention Center, where she was held for two years. She was sent home in May 2002, but her brother was taken to Jinan Forced Labor Camp for one year of detention.

Truth Appears at the Roadsides, Authorities Appear Panicked

One night in 2001, painted phrases, such as "Falun Dafa is Great" appeared on electricity poles along the road from Yao Zidian to Huangjiazhuang, causing the authorities to panic. Wang Sike took Liu Zhiguo, Liu Jiming, Ji Changchun, Zhang Yudong, Wu Gang, and others to remove the words. When they reached Xihuangjia Village, they had the secretary of the village CCP Committee call on practitioner Mr. Huang Chengyong, who was halfway to his field to harvest some corn. Five people surrounded him and began to beat and kick him. They then took him to the village office where he was beaten for about 2 more hours. They confiscated his keys, then went to his home and found Falun Gong books and banners. The authorities then made Wang Weige from the village lead people from the township to Mr. Huang's field and take his wife to the police station. At the police station, Mr. Huang and his wife were held in a room and beaten by six people, including Zhang Yudong, Cai Chenggang, Ji Changchun, Liu Zhizhi, Liu Jiming, and Wu Gang. The practitioners were kicked, whipped with strips of bark from trees, and had ropes tied around their necks. The abuse lasted for eight hours. Wang Sike yelled, "I would rather ruin your family than break apart a country." After the couple had been tortured for three days, they were forced to pay 1,200 yuan and released.

    Wang Zhaocai Commits Crimes

In January 2002, Wang Sike was transferred to another location, and his successor, secretary of the local CCP Political and Judiciary Committee Wang Zhaocai, led people to commit sins against Falun Gong and practitioners.

In March 2002, Wang Zhaocai, along with Cheng Shibo, Wu Gang, and others, went to practitioner Mr. Li Shancheng's home in Jizishan Village. They forced him to hand over 5,000 yuan. Mr. Li then left home to avoid further persecution. His wife Xu Angui was detained at the police station for 15 days. During the period that Ms. Xu was detained, Guo Qingfeng from the township ransacked the couple's home to look for books, and ended up destroying the wooden drawers in the home. After Mr. Li returned home in June, he was taken to Linyi Brainwashing Center and held for one month. After that, his wife was detained for over 10 days at the township office.

In May 2002, practitioner Mr. Tang Jiwei was arrested and taken to the Township CCP Committee, where he was interrogated and sworn at by members of Qishui Police Bureau. Ten days later, he was detained, taken to Fengjiazhuang Brainwashing Center, and held for one month of abuse. In June, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor. He was taken to Jinan Province Jiangshuiquan Forced Labor Camp but was not admitted when he failed the medical examination. In August, Mr. Tang was arrested again and taken to Linyi Brainwashing Center where he was held for 33 days. In January 2001, Mr. Tang's daughter Pan Jin and son Pan Shubao were taken to the police station and beaten by Ding Zuowen and Ma Debiao. In May 2002, Pan Jing was sent to Qishui Detention Center where she was detained for eight and a half months. Ten days after Pan Shubao was detained at the township, he was taken to Linyi Brainwashing Center and held there for one and a half months.

Practitioner Peng Zuoyu was taken to Qishui Fengjiazhuang Brainwashing Center the same year.

Qiu Chunbiao Becomes Third Secretary of the local CCP Political and Judiciary Committee

In January 2004, Wang Zhaocai was transferred to Qishui County Ethnicity Religious Bureau. Qiu Chunbiao became the secretary of the local CCP Political and Judiciary Committee, and his approach in persecuting practitioners was no less cruel than Wang's.

On December 9, 2004, Qiu led a dozen people in police vehicles to Fengtaizhuang Village, under the guidance of the head of the village, Zhang Jingpeng. They broke into and ransacked the homes of practitioners Zhang Yizhi, Zhang Yuzhe, and Zhang Jingxi. They arrested practitioners Zhang Yizhi, married couple Zhang Yuzhe and Zheng Xiaolan, and married couple Zhang Jingxi and Pan Xizhen. The five practitioners were taken to the police station, and then at midnight, to Qishui Detention Center. Zhang Yuzhe and Zhang Jingxi were detained for 15 days. After they each paid 420 yuan, they were released. The other three practitioners were detained for one month. Zheng Xiaolan and Pan Xizhen were taken to Jinan Women's Forced Labor Camp for two years of detention. The guards abused Pan Xizhen until she became extremely weak; in October 2006 she was released after paying 1,000 yuan. On August 14, 2006, Zheng Xiaolan was released, but practitioner Zhang Yizhi was taken to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp for three years of detention. He has not been released yet. Before being arrested, Zhang Yizhi was in good physical condition; now he has symptoms of hepatitis as a result of abuse. Despite this, the labor camp refused to release him, and instead, forced him to do hard labor.

In July 2004, practitioner Ms. Li Kemei from Fengtaizhuang Village was reported while clarifying the truth at Yuandongtou Village. In September 2004, two months after she was detained at Qishui Detention Center, she was taken to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp for two years of detention. Within a year, due to torture, she suffered a mental collapse, and her weight fell to approximately 55 pounds (25 kg). The guards were afraid she would die and that they would be held responsible so they let her family take her home. When she was back home, through studying the Fa and doing the exercises, her health was restored.

On the afternoon of October 15, 2006, when she was clarifying the truth, Ms. Li Kemei was reported again by Huang Chuantao from the Yaodianzi Township Land Management Office, for which he was given a secret bonus of 2,000 yuan. Ms. Li was taken to Qishui Detention Center by Yan Yuan from Yaozidian Town Police Station, Wu, Liu, Yang, and others.

While Ms. Li was detained, her husband Zhang Zhizhan, who is an upright person, took his luggage, his son (who has a mental disorder), and his elderly mother to Qishui Police Station and relevant departments in the government and demanded his wife's release. He was sneered at and deceived many times by police officers; they also kicked him out a few times and called the police officers from Yaodianzi Township to take him back home. The officers also abused and beat him.

One month after she was taken to Qishui Detention Center, guards in the detention center deceived Ms. Li by saying that they would let her go home, but took her to the brainwashing center located at a school affiliated with Lanshan District Water Bureau in Linyi City.
