Falun Gong Practitioners in California Gather on International Human Rights Day

Dec. 16, 2000 |   Practitioners in California

According to Tsing Tao Daily, Falun Gong practitioners in the Bay area gathered together in front of San Francisco City Hall on the morning of Dec. 10th, appealing to stop the persecution of practitioners by the Chinese government. Volunteer contact person, Zeng Yong, said that this event was planned to coincide with the International Human Rights day. Yong further stated the belief of Falun Gong practitioners is based on the supreme cosmic characteristics: "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance", and that practitioners will continue to study and cultivate Falun Gong. Falun Gong practitioners who organized this event said they would continue to disclose the facts about the persecution of practitioners in China who were beaten, tortured, detained, and even killed.

Their main purpose for gathering in front of the City Hall this time was to raise the public's awareness about the recent story of a Falun Gong practitioner from Australia, Zhang Cuiying, who has been detained and tortured in China.

More than 100 practitioners participated in this event. Most of them wore yellow T-shirts and sat orderly on the meadow. On one side of the meadow, other practitioners held boards with exhibits that displayed photos and articles that informed people about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
