Beijing Police Kidnapped Practitioner Hao Yi as He Was Leaving the Funeral of Zhao Xin

Dec. 24, 2000

Hao Yi, a practitioner from Beijing, was kidnapped from the street in front of the Babaoshan Public Cemetery at 3:15 PM on Dec. 13. The 6 or 7 kidnapers were policemen from the No.14 division of the Beijing Police Department.

Around 2:30 PM, the funeral of Zhao Xin was held in the Babaoshan Public Cemetery. More than 200 uniformed policemen and detectives (policemen in plain clothes) were there. Many of them were from the Haidian Sub-Department, the unit primarily responsible for Zhao Xin's injury, and the No.14 division, which is the unit in charge of the major universities and research institutes in Beijing.

When the funeral ended, Hao Yi walked out of the cemetery. Almost 10 plain-clothes policemen came up behind him. While calling his name out loud, they tried to arrest him. Hao Yi refused to cooperate with them and rebuked them for their illegal actions, but he was overpowered and thrown into a black car, which drove off immediately. At about the same time, plain-clothes policemen also approached a woman practitioner named Yao Yue. She called out for help and luckily, with help from people walking by, she was able to get away.

Plain-clothes policemen also followed another two practitioners from Qinghua University who attended the funeral.

We found out that both YaoYue and Hao Yi have been practicing at the Qinghua University practice site. HaoYi used to work for a company supervised by the Automobile Department of the University. He was fired after July 22, 1999. He was arrested many times for practicing and sharing experiences with other practitioners on campus. He had been detained for a month last October. About one month ago, while sharing experiences in a student dorm, he was reported to the police by an unknown informant. After being arrested, he went on a hunger strike in the No.14 division for seven days, and was released after that. Yao Yue is a family member of someone in Qinghua University. She was dismissed from the Microelectronic Institute at the University last October. Under the supervision of the Zhongguancun police station, the Qinghua University community center forced her into a "transformation program", which lasted for more than a week. During the "transformation program", she was taken to the police station many times.

The evil persecution of practitioners at the Qinghua University was exposed on Minghui some time ago. Our guess is this: the police may suspect Hao Yi was involved in sending information to Minghui. Those evil people at the Qinghua University were very angry about being exposed, but under the pressure of international public opinion, they did not dare to persecute the students and faculty members of the University directly. Instead, they may have tried to kidnap practitioners that might be involved and to follow other student practitioners in order to get information about their homes, mailing addresses, and other personal information.

Qinghua University is one of the best in China. Yet, under the pressure of evil forces, the school has not dared to protect its students' legal rights, and has persecuted the students who persist in the truth. These actions are totally against justice and the true human being's conscience, and have made the university a place where evil persecutes Dafa.

We call for the attention of all kind-hearted people around the world to the inhumane persecution of Dafa practitioners, and for their assistance in stopping these wayward and harmful deeds. Let all the compassionate people in the world condemn the evil altogether and ask the No 14 division to release Hao Yi unconditionally. Let everyone help the University stop the persecution against student and faculty practitioners and restore their legal rights to work and study.
