The Examiner (San Francisco): Supes gain ally in Jiang

RE: Nina Wu's Examiner article, "Board says no to Falun Gong," (The Examiner, Oct. 18), there was a news report in the World Journal on Oct. 30 about Mayor Brown's trip to China (World Journal is the biggest Chinese newspaper in the United States). The news was titled "Jiang Zemin Thanked San Francisco for Veto Resolution in Support of Falun Gong."

I just wonder how the supervisors felt about this piece of news when they heard it. The veto brought The City thanks and recognition from President Jiang, who is well known for jailing domestic dissidents and U.S. scholars, and personally initiated this massive persecution campaign against the Falun Gong. This is the person who racks the world for support of his trampling human rights of Falun Gong but couldn't hear any echo from the free world, until San Francisco spoke out.

And I remembered that one reason the supervisors voted down the resolution is they don't want to interfere with foreign affairs. And now we are still doing it, willingly or not. Isn't it true that tacit consent to crime is the same as committing one?
