Her Case Twice Returned Due to Insufficient Evidence, Chengdu Woman Still in Detention for Her Faith

December 20, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Chengdu woman remains captive even though her case has been twice returned to police due to insufficient evidence.

Ms. Chen Jie, in her 50s, was arrested on May 16, 2018 while talking to people about Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline being persecuted by the communist regime since 1999. She was stopped by a plainclothes officer and then taken to the Dawan Police Station.

The police initially put her on 10-day administrative detention, which was suddenly escalated to criminal detention 8 days later, on May 24. Ms. Chen was subsequently transferred from the Qingbaijiang Detention Center to the Pi County Detention Center in Chengdu City.

Ms. Chen developed high blood pressure not long afterward. The detention center guards attempted to force her to take unknown medicine. Knowing that many Falun Gong practitioners have been force-fed toxic drugs while in detention, she refused, and was forced to sign a liability waiver to relieve the detention center of any liability should anything happen to her.

Her case was submitted to the Qingbaijiang District Procuratorate a few days after her criminal detention. It has been returned twice for insufficient evidence.
