Shandong Woman Dies Months After Being Arrested and Harassed for Her Faith

December 27, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Huanyun, a resident of Shouguang City, Shandong Province, died less than three months after she was arrested for practicing Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999.

According to a police officer, the newly appointed Shouguang City Party Secretary noticed self-adhesive stickers reading “Falun Dafa is good” posted around his apartment complex, and instructed the police to round up nearby practitioners.

Ms. Wang and her husband were both arrested on September 19, 2018 from their home in Yanqingshi Village. The police confiscated valuable personal belongings from the home. Twenty-two more local residents, including Falun Gong practitioners and their family members who do not practice Falun Gong, were subsequently arrested over the next two months.

Ms. Wang was interrogated and threatened after being taken to the Zhangjianqiao Police Station. The police had planned to send her to Weifang Detention Center, but they released her on bail after the detention center declined to admit her due to her poor health.

Her husband, who suffered from depression, was detained for one month at the Shouguang Detention Center.

Ms. Wang, 69, used to suffer from incurable ascites caused by cirrhosis. Despite the ongoing persecution, she began to practice Falun Gong five years ago when nothing else seemed to help with her condition. Her health recovered without any medication.

Sadly, Ms. Wang was so traumatized by the recent arrest of her and her husband that she had a relapse of her symptoms. Worrying about her husband in detention, she couldn't eat or sleep well after her release. Her condition deteriorated quickly, and she died several months later. The exact date of her death remains to be investigated.
