Woman in Her 70s Sentenced to Four Years for Her Faith in Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A Dalian City, Liaoning Province resident was sentenced to prison for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Cheng Yurong, in her 70s, was arrested in a police sweep of more than twenty local Falun Gong practitioners on November 12, 2018.

The Political and Legal Affairs Committee, an extrajudicial agency tasked with persecuting Falun Gong, and Dalian Domestic Security Division monitored the practitioners’ daily lives for a period of time before making the arrests.

Ms. Cheng appeared in Ganjingzi District Court on May 16, 2019 and was sentenced to four years. She appealed the verdict, but the higher court ruled to uphold her sentence.

Ms. Cheng was sent to Liaoning Women’s Prison on October 22, 2019.

According to her daughter who recently visited her, she was emaciated and her hair had turned gray.
