(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman is now emaciated and has difficulty walking after the police insisted on holding her in custody despite her condition.
Ms. Zhou Yufang, a resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was arrested three times in less than ten months for refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance that has been severely persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhou was first arrested on March 21, 2018, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was released hours later after the detention center declined to admit her due to poor health.
On December 10, 2018, the police deceived her into going with them to the police station in connection with their investigation of her March arrest. She agreed, only to be taken straight to Nangou Detention Center.
Ms. Zhou experienced difficulty breathing and lost consciousness three days following her second arrest. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment and a notice of her critical condition was issued. The doctor said that the cause of her dizziness remained unclear and that she could die at any time. Her family was warned that she could have a stroke or go into shock.
Shortly after she was sent home to recover, however, she was arrested again after being reported to the police for distributing Falun Gong materials on January 4, 2019. The police ransacked her home and took her to Nangou Detention Center that evening. It was her third arrest.
Worried about her, her family sought her release from the authorities, only to be given the run-around between the police and the Domestic Security Division.
According to Ms. Zhou's lawyer, who visited her just days ago in the detention center, her condition is of great concern. She's lost all of her teeth. She had difficulty eating and was emaciated. She was suffering from a severe headache, neck pain, and dizziness. She could hardly stand up or walk by herself.
Her family is calling on the authorities to release her immediately.
