(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured in Shenyang No. 1 Prison in Liaoning Province for many years, due in part to the former warden, Wang Bin. Although he has since been transferred to the Department of Education in the Liaoning Prison Administration, the current prison warden, Wang Hongtao, is following in his footsteps in persecuting the practitioners.
Wang Bin started out as the warden of Benxi Prison. After he was transferred to Fushun Prison, an inmate hit him during a fight. Wang Bin wanted to take revenge on the inmate, so the inmate asked for a transfer, which was granted due to his connections, and he ended up in Shenyang No. 1 Prison. Determined not to be cheated out of his revenge, Wang followed the inmate to Shenyang Prison, also known as Dabei Prison.
Wang Bin was transferred to the prison in 2008. In 2012 he gave instructions to empty the fifth level, the top floor, of the prison hospital building to re-purpose it specifically for torturing Falun Gong practitioners. He also selected the most vicious inmates to be “assistants” on that floor.
One practitioner who was transferred to the fifth level in the winter had his clothes stripped off and was doused with cold water. He was then dragged to an empty room with the windows open and handcuffed to a bed board.
He started to run a high fever the next day, was never treated, and was dead the day after.
Guards place a thick stack of books on the practitioners' backs after forcing them to bend over at the waist at 90 degrees. Then they hit the books with a rubber hammer, causing intense pain and damage to the internal organs.
If the practitioner dies from the torture, he is dragged to the prison hospital for emergency treatment, even if he is already dead. If the family become suspicious of the death, the prison administrators tell them that he died suddenly and could not be resuscitated.
When the fifth level became overcrowded, Wang ordered the leaders in all the other wards to torture whatever practitioners were under their jurisdiction and meet the 100 percent “transformation” rate.
In 2010, Wang applied for a two-story “high intensity ward” (known to outsiders as Ward No. 19) to be built on the prison grounds solely to carry out the torture of Falun Gong practitioners.
When the ward was completed in 2012, Wang told the prison administration, department of justice, and 610 Office to send him any practitioners from other prisons in the province who refused to be “transformed.” Many practitioners were transferred there and brutally tortured.
Police officer Xu Bowen was promoted to assistant head of the ward two years after his cruelty in torturing practitioners was noted. He once forced an elderly practitioner to wear cotton padded clothes for three days in very hot weather. The practitioner was so drenched in sweat that he couldn't peel the clothes off.
In the “high intensity” ward, practitioners are tortured in all kinds of ways, including being shocked with electric batons, fed feces and urine, forced to sit on a tiger bench, and sprayed in the eyes with pepper spray. They are also forced to watch videos defaming Falun Dafa until the early morning hours.
Mr. Li Shangshi, a practitioner from Panjin City, was forced to sit on the tiger bench for 17 days. He was otherwise tortured during that time, including being surrounded by electric heaters and having his anus brushed with a metal brush. After he was released from the tiger bench, he was tied to a bed of sharp rocks for over a month.
Mr. Li was on the brink of death when he was taken to a solitary confinement room, and an inmate kicked him to death.
Within a short period of time, five practitioners were tortured to death in the “high intensity ward.”
