(Minghui.org) In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith, the Jilin Province Women’s Prison established the 8th Division and incentivized inmates to torture practitioners.
On the first floor of the prison building, most practitioners who remain firm in their faith are sent to Cell 107, also known as the “Storm Cell.” Inmates Dai Yu, 36, and Qi Xin, both convicted of fraud, were assigned to be in charge. They often force the practitioners to sit motionless on small stools every day from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., without any break for showers or restroom use. Some practitioners have been verbally abused and pepper-sprayed by guard Gao Yang.
Torture reenactment: sitting motionless on a small stool
Dai and Qi have enthusiastically launched themselves into their role. Because of their active participation in the persecution, they have been rewarded every year. Dai was also “promoted” to be in charge of a total of 11 cells (each cell has 12-14 people) on the first floor.
When Ms. Sun Qingju, in her 60s, was taken to Cell 107, the guards pepper-sprayed her and shackled her on a bed. Dai and Qi didn’t allow her to drink water, but forced her to drink her own urine, promising that they would stop trying to force her to renounce Falun Gong if she did so. That turned out to be a lie. They also poured water on her blanket and forced her to relieve herself in the bed. After a few days, Ms. Sun was unable to urinate and her lower abdomen became bloated and hard. The guards took her to the hospital and put a catheter in her. The “transformation” efforts continued after she was taken back to the prison.
The torture methods used on Ms. Yang Shuzhen were even more brutal. She was only allowed to sleep for two hours at night and then had to be on duty (watching other inmates sleep) every one or two hours. During the day, she was forced to remain seated on a small stool, with very few restroom breaks. Even when she was allowed to go to the restroom, she was never given enough time for bowel movements. And the inmates either tossed away or destroyed all of her toilet paper so she had nothing to clean herself with after using the toilet.
Before meal time, Ms. Yang was forced to repeat, “Qi Xin, can I eat now?” 200 times. They also barred her from washing herself or cleaning her rice bowl.
After Ms. Yang’s buttocks developed open sores that scabbed over (from sitting for so long), Qi removed the scabs and forced her to continue the sitting torture.
While forcing practitioners to sit on the small stools, the inmates sometimes shake their legs and rub their buttocks against the stools. After their buttocks are injured, inmates have sprinkled salt on their pants. Anyone who tries to resist is beaten, kicked, or pepper-sprayed. The putrid smell of infected sores attracts flies. It’s rare for the guards to provide any medical treatment, unless the practitioner writes a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
During the sitting torture, practitioners are forced to place their hands on their laps. If they can’t continue to hold their legs together, the inmates kick or beat them. Many practitioners have been covered in bruises as a result. Even when practitioners sit motionless, inmates may jab them in the chest with their fingers, a technique taught by inmate Li Lingling, a former sanda (a full-contact combat sport) champion.
Meanwhile, the inmates constantly verbally abuse Falun Gong and Falun Gong’s founder. Sometimes they write the name of Falun Gong founder’s on toilet paper and stuff it into practitioners’ underwear. Sometimes, the inmates also throw various objects at the practitioners.
Once, a young practitioner was taken to Cell 107 for trying to clarify the facts about Falun Gong to a guard. Qi and Dai asked her if she wanted to sit or stand. The practitioner said, “I will stand.” Then they forced her to stand up straight from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. She wasn’t allowed to move or lean against anything. After a month, her legs became extremely swollen and she had difficulty walking or using the restroom. Then they moved her to a regular cell and ordered her to write thought reports to “repent” of her mistake.
Dai also used sleep deprivation on another practitioner, Ms. Yao Yufen, in her 70s. She also beat and verbally abused her.
Another inmate, Wang Lina, who is serving a life sentence, didn’t allow a practitioner in her 70s to drink water in the summer, and beat the practitioner with a wooden bench. She also pinched the practitioner and verbally abused Falun Gong and the founder of Falun Gong.
Zheng Dan, convicted of murder, and drug dealer Chai Li sometimes force the practitioners to drink excessive water as another form of punishment and don’t allow them to use the restroom. Other inmates have forced the practitioners to eat excessive amounts of food, and have also starved them.
Dai, Zheng and Li Mingzhu once force-fed a practitioner surnamed Zhang and forced her to take psychotropic drugs.
In addition to denial of restroom use and bathing, some practitioners haven’t been allowed to change clothes or use a handkerchief or tissue when they have a runny nose.
In the summer, the inmates put layers of heavy comforters on the practitioners. In the winter, they cover the practitioners’ legs only, or allow no comforter at all, while opening the cell window and turning off the heat. They have also poured cold water on practitioners’ beds, or dragged practitioners back and forth across the wet floor.
There are another two inmates, Du Xiulan and Yang Liyan, who often gave “lectures” to smear Falun Gong and its founder, in attempts to brainwash practitioners.
