(Minghui.org) The Shenyang City Intermediate Court in Liaoning Province ruled on May 28, 2025 to uphold the wrongful convictions of two local residents for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Jin Xiaofeng, 65, and Ms. Zhao Guiping, 71, were arrested on July 13, 2024, while they were talking to each other on the street. They were tried at the Dadong District Court on February 20, 2025 and sentenced to prison on March 31. Ms. Zhao received five years and was fined 30,000 yuan and Mr. Jin was sentenced to three years and fined 10,000 yuan. Their appeals cases were registered with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court on April 21, 2025.
Judge Jiang Hui, who was assigned to their appeals cases, repeatedly denied the practitioners’ non-lawyer defenders’ requests for open hearings. He also committed other violations of legal procedures. See the first related report for details. He ruled to uphold their prison sentences on May 28, 2025.
Mr. Jin refused to sign the appeals ruling. His non-lawyer defender called judge Jiang upon receiving a copy of the ruling on June 5, 2025. Jiang hung up the phone as soon as he learned who the caller was. The defender filed a complaint against Jiang for violating legal procedures.
While being held in the Dadong District Detention Center, Mr. Jin was abused and suffered a relapse of his gastritis, which was healed after he began practicing Falun Gong. He felt bloated and couldn’t eat much. He has lost 40 pounds since his arrest in July 2024.
