(Minghui.org) A 66-year-old woman in Yantai City, Shandong Province, was sent to prison in mid-January 2025 because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Sheng Fengling was arrested at home at 10 a.m. on July 15, 2025, by officers from the Hebin Road Police Station. Her Falun Gong books and flash drives were confiscated. She refused to answer any questions while she was interrogated at the police station and she was released on bail at 5 p.m.

The police later submitted Ms. Sheng’s case to the Fushan District Procuratorate. She was taken back into custody at the Yantai City First Detention Center on November 28, 2025. She appeared in the Fushan District Court on December 18, 2025. Weeks later she was sentenced to two years and four months. She was transferred from the detention center to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison around mid-January 2025.

This isn’t the first time that Ms. Sheng has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in 1996 and credits with helping her recover from many severe illnesses. She was previously arrested on October 13, 2015, for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party who ordered the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained at the Yantai City First Detention Center for 15 days and she was released on October 28.

From March to May, 2017, many police stations in Fushan District, Yantai City, harassed local practitioners to check if they still practiced Falun Gong. Some officers called the practitioners, while others visited them in person. Ms. Sheng was also targeted during this campaign.
