Twice Jailed for Her Faith, 69-Year-Old Woman Arrested Again

Oct. 31, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hunan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Only one year after Ms. Song Fangming completed a three-year prison term because she practices Falun Gong, the 69-year-old woman in Changsha City, Hunan Province, was arrested again.

Ms. Song went missing in August 2026. Minghui.org recently confirmed that she is being held at the Changsha City Fourth Detention Center. Other details about her case are unclear.

Since the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Song has been repeatedly targeted for her faith. She served a one-year labor camp term between September 2002 and October 2003, and she was sentenced to three and a half years on March 5, 2010.

Starting in December 2020, her pension was reduced to 845 yuan per month. When she went to the Changsha City Social Security Office to inquire about it, the receptionist said that she owed them 108,310 yuan, which was issued to her during her 3.5-year prison term “by mistake” as she “was not entitled to any pension benefits while imprisoned.” Her pension was thus deducted to “pay back the pension debt.”

Ms. Song returned to the social security office on May 21, 2021, to follow up on her case. The receptionist said they would inform her when there was an update. Instead of hearing back from them, she was arrested by officers from the Chaoyang Street Police Station. They also worked with a doctor to falsify her physical exam report to get her detained for 12 days.

Ms. Song was arrested again on February 14, 2022, after a surveillance camera captured her putting up informational materials about Falun Gong. She was admitted to the Changsha City Fourth Detention Center the next day, and she was later sentenced to three years by the Liuyang City Court.

While serving time at the Hunan Province Women’s Prison, Ms. Song was brutally tortured. Her elderly mother and husband passed away while she was incarerated. Before her husband died, her family requested that she be released so she could see him for the last time, but the prison officials denied the request.

Ms. Song was released in February 2025, only to be arrested again in August 2026.
