(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to three years and was fined 20,000 yuan because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
The wrongful conviction of Ms. Fu Xiumin stemmed from her initial arrest in mid-September 2025, after a resident’s home security system recorded her distributing Falun Gong informational materials in his apartment building. Eight agents from the Ganjingzi District Police Department and the 610 Office raided Ms. Fu’s home and confiscated over 50 Falun Gong books and banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong.
Ms. Fu was released after 15 days of administrative detention. Around January 8, 2026, an officer from the Quanshui Police Station called her saying they needed to photograph her and they ordered her to promise she would not practice Falun Gong. She refused to comply as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, which she credits for restoring her health.
Agents from the Ganjingzi District Police Department arrested Ms. Fu again on March 18, 2026, while she was talking to people about Falun Gong. They took her to a local detention center.
The prosecutor in charge of the case ordered Ms. Fu to renounce Falun Gong while deposing her at the detention center. She refused and she was indicted. Her case was forwarded to the Ganjingzi District Court on July 30, 2026.
Ms. Fu’s family hired two lawyers to represent her. She asked them to enter a not guilty plea for her but they refused. It was unclear what plea the lawyers entered for her.
Prior to the trial, the presiding judge told the lawyers that he planned to give their client three to seven years. He held a virtual hearing of the case on September 9, 2026. Ms. Fu attended the trial from the detention center. She testified in her own defense and demanded she be acquitted.
The judge sentenced Ms. Fu to three years at an unknown time. She is appealing the verdict.
