(Minghui.org) The Huairou District Court in Beijing sentenced a local retired teacher to eighteen months in prison because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Ms. Yu Zhanqin, in her 60s, was arrested on July 4, 2025, after a married couple recorded her while she talked to them about Falun Gong. They gave the audio files to the police. Officers from the Huairou District Domestic Security Office, the Huairou District 610 Office, and the Longshan Police Station participated in her arrest.
Two officers raided Ms. Yu’s home that night but did not find any “evidence” they could use against her. They still kept her in the Shunyi District Detention Center.
In late September 2025, two officers (one surnamed Wu) from the Longshan Police Station went to Ms. Yu’s home and deposed her husband. They said they planned to submit the case to the Huairou District Procuratorate after October 1.
Ms. Yu’s husband was not given any further updates of her case status. He recently heard about his wife’s prison sentence. He still does not know when his wife was indicted, tried, or convicted. It is also unclear whether Ms. Yu is still held at the detention center.
This is the third time Ms. Yu has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously twice jailed for a total of one year and nine months. Her pension was suspended after she completed her second prison term in October 2023.
Ms. Yu was arrested on February 10, 2021, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. Due to her high blood pressure, the Shunyi District Detention Center refused to accept her and she released the next afternoon.
Ms. Yu was shopping at a clothing store on Huairou South Street on September 19, 2021, when she was reported by an electric motorcycles vendor for talking to him about Falun Gong. She was arrested by officers from the Longshan Police Station and held at the Huairou District Detention Center. She was later sentenced to six months and she was released on March 8, 2022.
Ms. Yu was arrested again on July 7, 2022, also after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Huairou District Detention Center and sentenced to fifteen months at an unknown time. While serving time at the Beijing Women’s Prison, she was subjected to brutal torture and brainwashing aimed to force her to renounce Falun Gong.
After Ms. Yu was released on October 6, 2023, she noticed her pension was suspended. She appealed to the Huairou District Board of Education and was told that her name had been removed from the retirees’ roster. They refused to give her a legal basis or issue a written notice despite her repeated efforts to have her pension reinstated. They even threatened to put her in jail if she dared to “bother” them again.
