The Consequences of Disrespecting the Divine

Feb. 28, 2026 |   By Youlong

(Minghui.org) There was a temple in my hometown, and many locals often went there to burn incense and pray. My relative Jin was two years older than me. One summer when I was about 15, we went to the temple together. The weather was very warm so we weren’t wearing tops. A nun stopped us before we entered the temple, and told us that not being properly dressed was disrespectful of the divine. We put our tank tops on, but the nun said we were still showing too much skin. We put our shirts on before we were allowed to enter.

We behaved badly inside the temple. We had no concept of showing reverence to the divine because we were indoctrinated with atheism in school. When he noticed the offering plates and candle stands that were made of brass, Jin joked about taking them and selling them to make money. He casually pointed at the Buddha statues and made irreverent comments. We went home after we toured the temple.

A few days later I heard that Jin fell off a bike. He injured his shoulder when he fell, and I noticed it was the arm he used to point to the Buddha statues that day.

We didn’t think much about the incident, but now I know that Jin's shoulder injury was his karmic retribution and warning because he was disrespectful of the divine.

With the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong, a high-level Buddhist practice, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) media outlets continue to spread propaganda to slander it. Many people chose to side with the CCP, and they actively participated in the persecution, tortured incarcerated practitioners, and even harvested their organs for sale. The people who participate in this persecution face grave danger because retribution for their actions will eventually land on those who committed these crimes.
