(Minghui.org) A 75-year-old woman in Jinan City, Shandong Province, was sent to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison on August 29, 2025, to serve a 1.5-year prison term given in 2021 because she practices Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhang Huiqing

Ms. Zhang Huiqing and her husband Mr. Liu Sitang, 82, were arrested on September 6, 2018, for telling people about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Liu was sentenced to three years on July 24, 2019, and taken to the Shandong Province Prison, shortly after his appeal was rejected by the Jinan City Intermediate Court.

Ms. Zhang wasn’t tried until December 1, 2020. A month later she was sentenced to one and a half years and fined 1,000 yuan. Her appeal was also denied. Due to her poor health, she wasn’t immediately ordered to report to prison.

On June 19, 2025, more than 20 police officers and a doctor suddenly showed up at Ms. Zhang’s home and took her to the Shandong University Second Hospital for a physical examination. Her husband, who was recently released from prison, followed her to the hospital. The police ordered Mr. Liu to wait in their cruiser and an officer pushed Ms. Zhang inside, in a wheelchair.

After she was examined, the police took Ms. Zhang to the Jinan City Detention Center, which refused to admit her after they saw the results. The elderly couple was sent home later that day. The police returned on July 3 and ordered Ms. Zhang to go to the same hospital on July 10 for a two-week treatment. They threatened to take her back into custody if she defied the order.

Ms. Zhang was admitted to the hospital on July 7, 2025. She was forced to get IV injections and take hypertension pills every day. She was discharged eight days later on July 15.

Officer Liu Wentao from the Sangzidian Police Station and a clerk from the Tianqiao District Court showed up at Ms. Zhang’s home on August 19, 2025 and drove her to the Tai’an City Rehabilitation Hospital (nearly 50 miles away) for a physical exam.

The police returned to Ms. Zhang’s home on August 28 and took her to the Tianqiao District Hospital for another physical examination. Officer Liu then submitted her physical exam reports from the two hospitals to the Tianqiao District Police Department and the Tianqiao District Court. Both agencies said she was ineligible for parole given her exam results.

Ms. Zhang was seized from her home on August 29, 2025, and taken to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison. Due to her high blood pressure, she was admitted to inpatient care at the prison’s in-house hospital at one point. She is currently held in the Tenth Division.

Ms. Zhang’s family visited her on September 15, 2025, and noticed she was in a wheelchair but in good spirits.
