A New Environment, and a New Starting Point

Aug. 18, 2026 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) I left my hometown last year, after living and working there for 40 years, and moved to the city where my child works.

I began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. For more than 20 years, I cultivated with fellow practitioners in my hometown, enduring many hardships. From introducing Falun Dafa to people, to validating the Fa during the persecution, to making the best use of our time to help Master Li save sentient beings, fellow practitioners gave me selfless support that words cannot express. No matter how long I had been away, whenever I returned and was with them, I always felt a deep sense of comfort and belonging.

Over the years, I traveled to many places, including several trips to the city where I now live. Because those were only visits, I never felt truly separated from my hometown practitioners or the cultivation environment where we encouraged one another and advanced diligently together. This time, however, as I left my hometown and the practitioners for good, I found it especially difficult to say goodbye.

Long before my move, I became increasingly anxious. In my new environment, I didn’t know any practitioners. There was no Fa study group, no truth-clarification materials, and I worried about clarifying the truth face to face. I could not speak the local language, and I had heard that the cultivation environment for practitioners there had been very difficult for many years. All of these concerns kept surfacing in my mind, and for a long time I was unable to calm down while studying the Fa.

Encouraged by the practitioners from my hometown and relying on my faith in the Fa, I entered this new environment. Soon after arriving, I suffered a sickness karma tribulation. An old allergy on my neck reappeared. The skin became itchy and was covered with a red rash. I was sensitive to the wind and had difficulty sleeping at night. I had originally not wanted to move here, and with my body feeling uncomfortable, I could not calm my mind while studying the Fa. Without the environment of group Fa study, my righteous thoughts weakened, and human notions emerged. Needless to say, I was unable to do well the three things that Dafa practitioners are supposed to do. As the Chinese New Year approached, I gradually became caught up in family affairs, and this state continued for more than two months.

During that period, I went out several times to clarify the truth, but the results were disappointing. Deep down, I knew this was not the state a cultivator should be in.

I began looking inward, asking myself what human notions and attachments had caused this. What had I failed to let go of? Why had I been proactive in doing the three things every day in my hometown, yet become so lax after coming here?

Seeing that I wanted to rectify myself, Master compassionately enlightened me to the fact that I had deeply hidden, strong attachments to showing off and a desire to show how capable I was. One day, a thought appeared in my mind: “Fellow practitioners all acknowledge you.” Immediately, I became alert. I realized that one hidden reason I had enjoyed working with fellow practitioners on Dafa projects was that, consciously or unconsciously, it gave me opportunities to show my abilities and gain their recognition. I had also developed a dependence on them.

In my hometown, I had participated in many activities to introduce Dafa and became acquainted with a lot of practitioners. Over more than 20 years, we coordinated on multiple projects to validate the Fa, and I gradually gained a certain reputation among them. Fellow practitioners often took the initiative to discuss cultivation experiences with me or asked me to work with them on Dafa projects. Gradually, attachments such as self-righteousness, jealousy, looking down on others, showing off, and seeking recognition surfaced.

Only in recent years had I gradually learned to truly look within, and I eliminated many of these attachments. In particular, I had almost felt that my attachment to showing off was gone. However, after coming here, without practitioners around me every day, and without their encouragement or recognition, it seemed like there was no point in showing my abilities. As a result, I no longer felt the same urgency in cultivation. I experienced a strong sense of loneliness.

Only then did I realize that this deeply hidden attachment had already affected my righteous understanding of the Fa, and my ability to cultivate diligently and do the three things well.

Once I recognized this, I intensified my righteous thoughts to eliminate my attachment to showing off, my desire to gain recognition, and my strong dependence on fellow practitioners. I also resolved to eliminate my attachment to comfort and fear, and my attachment to time.

I am deeply grateful to Master for arranging this new environment, which allowed me to recognize the human notions and attachments that had been hindering my cultivation, so that I could genuinely rectify every thought in accordance with the Fa.

In fact, before I arrived, Master had already compassionately arranged everything. We have a friend here, a practitioner named Bei, whom I had not seen for many years. Bei had frequent contact with one of my relatives, and they all knew that she and I are Dafa practitioners, but I was the only one who didn’t know Bei was also a practitioner. While I felt distressed about not finding other practitioners, I had forgotten that everything is arranged by Master.

Just as I gained a better understanding of the Fa and recognized my attachments to showing off and a dependence on other practitioners, I finally had the opportunity to study the Fa and exchange cultivation experiences with Bei. She is very diligent and has maintained an excellent cultivation state. We often study the Fa together and clarify the truth face to face. Bei talks to people in the local language, while I send forth righteous thoughts to help. Her righteous thoughts are very strong, and the results in truth clarification have been excellent. Whenever I see her compassionately clarifying the truth to people, I am often moved to tears.

A new environment is a new starting point. I will continue to cooperate well with my fellow practitioners, encourage each other, and make the best use of the limited time remaining to cultivate diligently and solidly.
