(Minghui.org) An 86-year-old woman in Xinxiang City, Henan Province, was sent to the Henan Province Fifth Prison (also known as Xinxiang Women’s Prison) in mid-May 2026 to serve an unknown term because she practices Falun Gong.
Ms. Luo Shuhua’s ordeal stemmed from her arrest in December 2020, after a surveillance camera recorded her distributing Falun Gong materials. Officers from the Muye Police Station took her to the Xinxiang City Detention Center. Due to health reasons, she was denied admission and released under “residential surveillance” on December 4, 2020. While the police lifted her “residential surveillance” on May 3, 2021, they changed her case status to “on bail.” They made a few more attempts to detain her but failed.
Officers from the Tiexi Police Station submitted Ms. Luo’s case to the Weihui City Procuratorate in 2024. It is unclear when she was indicted, tried, or sentenced. The length of her prison term is also unknown.
A group of officers broke into Ms. Luo’s home on March 13, 2026, and attempted to take her away. When she firmly resisted being arrested, they called an ambulance and placed her inside it. They claimed that she had a “shadow on her lung” and took her to the Xinxiang Infectious Diseases Hospital. They also threatened to put her in jail after the “treatment.”
It is unclear if Ms. Liu was temporarily released from the hospital before she was sent to prison in mid-May 2026.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Luo has been repeatedly arrested and harassed since the persecution began 27 years ago. Her husband, Mr. Ma Yunxian, also a practitioner, was forced to live away from home to avoid the persecution. The mental distress and physical torture he suffered during previous detentions took a toll on his health. He died in April 2008. He was 70.
