(Clearwisdom.net) Professor Tyson, an expert in renaissance music, and an established recorder soloist, took his wife to see Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the Boston Opera House, and they were very impressed.
"Honestly the production values are just the highest. This is world class," said Mr. Tyson, also a teacher of chamber music and musical director for an organization involved with historical dance.
He was delighted by the different facets displayed in the Chinese Spectacular. "They are trying to make a very congenial show for people who are interested in Chinese and also for Western audiences, who are used to bel canto singing, are used to Western orchestra. And it was a beautiful combination of everything."
He also liked the underlying spiritual values inherent in traditional Chinese culture. "I'm not religious at all, but I love the Buddhist connection in there, because it speaks of something which I think is not really a religious thing the way we think in the West ... It's expecting us to take responsibility for ourselves, to understand and to be compassionate to everybody. That's a universal thing-I thought that was beautiful."
