OSAKA, Japan--Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company returned to Osaka for the third consecutive year on Feb. 18, inspiring many.
Among the audience was Ms. Wang, a former professional dancer in mainland China. She brought a Japanese friend along to the Umeda Arts Theater to see the show.
"Every year, new faces appear in the Divine Performing Arts show. The dancers are young yet competent. It's really great. The performers' techniques are superb, and the dances and songs have profound meanings."
Ms. Wang was educated in ballet from a young age. Later, she also learned Chinese folk dance.
"DPA's folk dance is displayed very well, particularly Dance of the Yi and Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain."
Dance of the Yi features Yi ladies, who belong to one of southern China's largest ethnic groups. The Yi ladies are known for their playfulness, vivaciousness, and fondness for their embroidered hats.
The Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain brings the audience to the Himalayas, where the Tibetans reside. The colorful prayer beads, long sleeves, and well-built boots capture the character of these lively and welcoming people.
Also in the audience was another Chinese dance teacher, who received the Peach and Plum Cup in mainland China for Chinese dance. "I feel really good on seeing DPA's folk dance. I've always been interested in Chinese dance since I was little. I particularly liked the men's dances, particularly The Poet's Vision. The combination of Chinese classical dance and the classical costumes is beautiful and so are the backdrops.
"Chinese classical dance is a very difficult dance system. This is my second time seeing DPA this year. The legends portrayed are very interesting. Chinese dance has never really been publicized, yet this performance is like spreading Chinese classical dance. Seeing it here makes me really happy."
The guiding mission of DPA is to rediscover and renew humanity's true, rightful cultural heritage. The New York-based company thus creates and performs works that center upon the true divinely bestowed culture of humankind, seeking to provide an experience of consummate beauty.
