(Clearwisdom.net) Divine Performing Arts (DPA) performed at the Providence Performing Arts Center on March 5, 2009. The audience was taken in by DPA's beautiful performance and gave the show high praise.
Among the audience was Anita De Luca, who came to see the show with her husband, Anthony De Luca. Mr. and Mrs. De Luca are from Cranston, Rhode Island and both are musicians in a touring orchestra. Mrs. De Luca was very excited about the show and said during an interview afterwards, "My husband saw a flyer and we said, 'oh that is something so different, we'd love to see it.' The performance is exquisite and the music is fabulous. We are musicians ourselves so we love your orchestra also. I am a vocalist. It is just phenomenal, very, very unusual and it's a lovely area to explore."
Professional musicians Mr. and Mrs. De Luca impressed by DPA
When she was asked which part of the show she liked best, Mrs. De Luca said, "The dancing with the fans was just so beautiful to watch, but I also enjoy the athleticism in the dancing, especially the gentlemen. But even the women, you have to be extremely strong to be able to do some of this, I am enjoying that."
Mr. De Luca explained his impression of the evening, saying, "We have been season ticket holders of the Providence Performing Arts for several years. I am really happy with the performance. This is very culturally enriching and is something that we don't get to see a lot of in this area. So I am very happy to be here. I like the diversity of the performance with the live orchestra. I like the dance aspects and I am also very happy with the narration and the history of China. I really like it, very good."
The particular acts he liked best were, "I liked the opening number a lot where they have the divine beings come down from the clouds. That was very impressive, and I liked how they had the clouds on the stage. And I would also say that I was happy with both of the routines that portrayed flowers. The first one where they had the opening of the flower in Buddha's hand and also the second where they used the fans. I think it was the colors that were most impressive along with the costumes."
He told the reporter that both he and his wife are musicians in the Ocean State Summer Pops Orchestra, and he is the president of the orchestra. They are a local organization and travel throughout central and southern New England.
Patricia Symonds, a Professor at Brown University, attended the show with a friend. She shared her impressions about the evening. "I think what impresses most is the dance and costumes and the way they practice very hard to tell stories, while dancing. I think it's really beautiful. I think it's really wonderful that it's mostly ethnic Chinese, many of them born here in the west and showing their culture to others tonight. That is really important and it makes us appreciate each other more."
She added, "I think it's really useful and gives a really good outlook about Chinese culture. These young people do just a beautiful job."
"The Show Was Absolutely Visually and Culturally Stunning!"
David, a realtor, attended the show with his girlfriend, Grace, who is from China.
David said he thought the show was the most beautiful performance that he had ever seen in his life. "It was absolutely stunning. Stunning. Every single scene was absolutely stunning, every single scene."
In discussing the cultural side of the show, he said, "As an American, the whole show was a cultural experience for me. The show was absolutely visually and culturally stunning!"
Grace was quick to add, "Quite fabulous. I love it. I have never seen anything like this in China. I have been in the United States for three years."
She said her favorite performance was "Mulan Joins the Battle," adding, "Actually, all of the performances were good. Look around you, even in a bad economy, the audience is full. You can see how much people like the show."
With regards to the show's message that good acts will be rewarded by Heaven, David said, "Moving. Moving. It really moves us. I can't begin to tell you how moved I am. I did not expect it. It was more than I expected. It was stunning, truly."
He continued, "This is the best show I have ever seen in my life. I have a deep, deep respect for the Chinese culture and it all started with my relationship with Grace, my Chinese girlfriend."
When asked what brought both of them to the show, David replied, "I saw it on a TV commercial and it did not take me but two minutes before I called and ordered tickets. And you know what? The very next day, there were no more commercials. The show was sold out. There is a big Chinese influence in this state, as you can see."
David concluded by saying, "I will absolutely spread the word about the show!"
