(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. An Yan is a teacher from the Xinwen Experiment School in Xintai City, Shandong Province. At about 9 a.m. on July 19, 2008, she was arrested by Ma Yan, chief of the National Security Group of Xintai City, and Guo Hongsong, the headmaster of Xinwen Experiment School. She was sent to the second group of the criminal police team. Her 8-year-old son, Li Duchen, was arrested with her. The frightened boy caught a fever and was hospitalized for over ten days.
The officers of the second group of the criminal police team interrogated Ms. An Yan about the whereabouts of her husband, Mr. Li Yunzhao. Ordered by Ma Yan, the officers pulled her hair, repeatedly slapped her face , pushed her to the ground and stepped on her chest. After many rounds of beatings, Ms. An Yan fell into a coma and dropped to the ground. The perpetrators then poured cold water on her face until she become conscious. Ma Yan pulled Ms. An to her feet and said in a sarcastic voice, "We have handled the enforcement of the law in a good manner, right?"
At about 6 p.m. on July 19, the police sent Ms. An Yan to a detention center. The prison doctor, seeing her poor physical condition after suffering mistreatment, suggested that she have a physical examination at the First People's Hospital of Xintai City. The results of the examination showed some arrhythmia, and the detention center refused to accept her. The police responded rudely, "You must accept her, because this is an order from the Political and Law Committee of the city."
Early in the morning on July 20, Ms. An's asthma flared up and she was sent to the First People's Hospital of Xintai City. She required oxygen and was handled as an emergency. The detention center was afraid that she might die and requested that Ms. An be released temporarily for a pending trial. However, the police of the National Security Group and the Political and Law Committee of the city refused their request.
Ms. An was then sent to the General Hospital of the Military Police in Shandong Province and was later held in the Xinkang Prison in Jinan City. During her imprisonment, the guards did not provide her with toiletries for daily use or a change of clothes. Taking advantage of her hospitalization, the police extorted 30,000 yuan from Ms. An's place of employment for her treatment, while the real expense of the treatment was only about 4,000 yuan.
One day in early August, despite the fact that Ms. An Yan could hardly breathe, Wang Shilei, from the 2nd Criminal Police Group of the Police Department of Xintai City, hit her head over ten times with a broomstick while she was being interrogated. He stopped only when other people at the detention center intervened.
In mid August, Ms. An was released after her family paid the police 5,000 yuan. She lost about 35 pounds as a result of being abused for one month.
During Ms. An's detention, the police ransacked her home three times. Her elderly mother-in-law and young son were very frightened. Her brother-in-law, who does not practice Falun Gong, was summoned to the police station three times. One time he was detained for 24 hours. The police were trying to obtain information about his brother, Mr. Li Yunzhao.
Mr. Li Yunzhao was forced into homelessness after his home was ransacked on August 22, 2006, by officers from the Taiwen Branch Police Station and the Xiezhuang Coal Mine of the Xinwen Mining Corporation.
