Dr. Du Pont's business interests often take him to China, and he was pleased to see Chinese traditional culture being presented in this art form. "I love Chinese culture, but I'm really surprised how well this is presented, from the point of view for Western people. I like the concept of how they're theater presented, in terms of people, how they're presenting this in terms of art. Especially for a Western audience who may not be familiar with China's 5,000-year history," he said.
Dr. Du Pont said that he was disappointed when he'd visited Shanghai and Beijing, "A lot of this beautiful Chinese culture disappeared, but now I'm happy that [Shen Yun] is bringing it back. You have grasped from a couple of thousand years back, and suddenly you are right in the present times. I think it's fantastic."
Dr. Du Pont talked about presenting Chinese culture and the younger Chinese generation. "I hope they learn that they've got a beautiful culture, and should be proud [of it]. Because I think China, with their culture, [they] have a big future and a big role to play in the world."
Mr. McDonald, a photographer, hadn't seen Chinese culture before, and he found it a pleasure to see Shen Yun. He said, "I really liked the dancing, the colors, and the costumes. And the message is the most important thing."
For Mr. McDonald, the strong, positive message about Falun Dafa impressed him. "It was saying that there was something good out there," Mr. McDonald shared and he hoped people would take notice of the message. "I think they were all very good. The dancing was very spectacular. It introduces new concepts to people."
Ms. Ryan, a training and development manager, was among the audience. "It was an Easter present for my mum, because she was in the hospital last week. It's amazing, we really loved it," she said.
Ms. Ryan had practiced some ballet, tap, and jazz dance when younger, and still has an eye and feel for dance. She appreciated Shen Yun, "The poise and the beauty, it was really fantastic. I liked the "Mongolian Chopsticks" dance, I thought they had a lot of energy, they were really beautiful."
Mr. Goldman, who works for an import/export company in Adelaide, attended the show with his wife. Mrs. Goldman said she thought the best dance was the depiction of the persecution suffered by Falun Dafa practitioners in China, "Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution." "When I walk away today I will think about Falun Dafa. I've heard little bits about their misfortune in China, but I really don't know how it affects the people. I learned how it affects families," she said.
Mr. Goldman thoroughly enjoyed the show and said, "It's a very good show, and they've done a good job." He particularly enjoyed the dance about the Monkey King.
Mrs. Goldman said she was "mesmerized" by the colorful fabrics in the costumes worn by the dancers. "It's good to be educated on the different parts of China. Because a lot of people would just think it's all the same, but this has the South Eastern dance and everything ["Dance of the Yi"]."
Among the audience was Mr. Andruszko, editor of South Australia's only Ukranian magazine, who came with his wife. He stated, "Really, they are divine. Terrific, good choreography, and the costumes, and the background. I really enjoyed that ... and the timing was terrific. I didn't expect [it to be] that spectacular. I thought the music was divine, soothing, and from time to time, they really added tempo to it. Terrific."
