Case Description:

Zeng Yuwen, male, in his 20's, was from Zijin County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. He ran his own store in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. In February 2000, he went to Beijing in order to appeal and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa. He was illegally detained 17 days before he was escorted back to Zijin County. Because of the "two conferences" [the National People's Congress and the National People's Political Consultative Conference] were still in session, he was illegally detained for an additional 13 days, more than 30 days altogether. An official from the Political Security Section of Zijin County Public Security Bureau threatened him by stating, "You will be sentenced to jail if you continue to practice Falun Gong." Because he did not want to be persecuted any more Zeng Yuwen escaped from the detention center on about March 20th. Upon his escape, the County Public Security Bureau employed policemen carrying weapons and dogs, driving big vans and cars to try and capture him. After all their efforts they did not manage to catch him.

Once again, in April, he went to Beijing to validate Dafa. After being escorted back, he was unjustly detained 17 days in a detention center, and then was sent to the ward under tight surveillance. On the second day in the ward, he began a hunger strike. Because he could no longer hold up under the vicious torture, Zeng Yuwen wrote a guarantee letter against his will. On May 12th after his family members had about 6,000 Yuan RMB extorted from them, he was released. On July 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for the third time. On the way back to Guangdong Province, near Lechang, in an attempt to break away from continuous vicious torture, he jumped out of a moving train. He lost his life trying to escape.
