Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Su Yongneng from Changde City, Hunan Province, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment because he refused to renounce his belief in Dafa. He was persecuted to near death at Chenzhou Prison. Chenzhou Prison was afraid to take responsibility and released Mr. Su on August 16, 2006. He died as a result of the persecution the next day.

Mr. Su Yongneng, also called Su Zhiping, 43 years old, was from Dingcheng District, Changde City, Hunan Province. Before he took up the practice of Falun Dafa, he suffered from hepatitis B and jaundice hepatitis. He could not work. He went to many places seeking treatments, but no treatment worked. Later, Mr. Su started on the cultivation path of Falun Dafa. He recovered from his illnesses, which brought joy to his family.

On February 14, 2004, Su Yongneng was taken to an unknown small hotel by personnel from the Central Chinese Appeal Office because he went to Beijng to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was delivered to the local police and taken back to Changde City. Mr. Su was illegally detained in Dingcheng No. 1 Detention Center in Changde City. During his detention, he was often beaten by the police and criminal detainees. After Mr. Su was detained for two months, the police extorted over 10,000 yuan from his family and released him.

On the night of September 20, 2004, which was the second day that the head of the 610 Office, Luo Gan, was visiting Changde City, personnel from the Changde City 610 Office and the National Security Team carried out an unbridled arrest of all Falun Dafa practitioners in Changde City. Seven practitioners from the Dingcheng District were arrested. The police broke into Su Yongneng's home and took him away without giving any reason or following any legal procedures.

Because Mr. Su was not willing to give up his belief, he was detained in Dingcheng No. 1 Detention Center for another nine months. The police fabricated charges against him and submitted them to the local Procuratorate many times. Procurator Hu returned the case to the police twice because of insufficient evidence. The authorities fabricated another charge--"sabotaging implementation of the law"--and sentenced Su Yongneng to five years' imprisonment. Mr. Su was sent to Chenzhou Prison.

Mr. Su's family members were victims of long-term brainwashing, threats, and intimidation from the Chinese Communist Party. As a result, they resented Dafa and Dafa practitioners. They never went to the prison to visit Su Yongneng. It was said that Mr. Su was only allowed to rest about three hours every day when he was in Chenzhou Prison. He was also inhumanly tortured.

Su Yongneng was in very good health before he was arrested. However, on August 7, 2006, his family suddenly received a call from the prison, saying that Mr. Su had had a relapse of hepatitis and his health was very bad. Mr. Su's daughter and wife went to see him. They almost could not recognize him. His complexion was sallow and skinny, and his abdomen was swollen. His voice was so faint that it was hard to hear. He was not able to walk by himself and two persons supported him. Even in such a condition, the police monitored them when they met. His daughter cried and said, "Dad, you should be strong, you cannot die. You must get out alive."

Chenzhou Prison feared that Su Yongneng would die on the premises, so they sent him back to Qiaonan Police Station in the Dingcheng District of Changde City on August 16, 2006. Police station officials immediately told the neighborhood committee to call Mr. Su's family to come take him home. The next day his family took him to a hospital and spent 200 yuan for an examination. However, before the results of the examination were available, Su Yongneng died around 2:00 p.m. that same day, August 17, 2006.

Intimidated by the police, the neighborhood committee used the promise of social welfare when they ordered Mr. Su's family not to appeal, not to make his persecution and death public, and not to invite relatives and friends, especially fellow practitioners, to mourn their loss. The next morning, Mr. Su Yongneng was cremated.
