Case Description:

Zhou Yurong, female, Han nationality, born on February 22, 1963, graduated from the Shihezi Medical School in Xinjiang Province, and was a doctor at the 45th Corps of the 3rd Division of Xinjiang Production and Construct Group. Her ID number was 653127196302222220.

On March 15, 2002, Yurong was put on criminal detention by the Tacheng City Police Department. On July 18, she was illegally arrested and was thrown into the detention center of the Tacheng City Police Department. Yurong had been on a hunger strike ever since she was arrested on March 15. The detention center force fed her and tortured her in various ways. After nearly 9 months' hunger strike, Yurong, who used to be a woman 1.7 meters tall and weighing 150 pounds, was reduced to skins and bones weighing only 67 pounds. She lost control of her bowels and bladder, and all her teeth fell out. The detention center did not inform Yurong's husband of the news that Yurong was to be put on trail on December 2 until November 28. On December 1, Yurong's husband brought their 14-year-old son and rushed to the People's Hospital. In the ward, Yurong was monitored 24 hours a day. In order to avoid responsibility, on December 2, the police even ordered Yurong's husband to carry her to the courtroom to be tried even though she was near death. At that time, Yurong was still very clearheaded and she defended herself, "I am not guilty. I went to appeal because Dafa was wronged."

At about 10:00 a.m. on December 4, Yurong received the verdict and she was sentenced to 3 years in prison with 4 years on probation. Yurong was very happy then saying that she could go home. She insisted on checking out of the hospital. So she was moved to a hotel where she passed away around 1:00 p.m. that same day.
