Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Shanglan, 47, was arrested on the morning of January 27, 2013 for her belief in Falun Gong. She was taken the Chengguan Police Station, handcuffed to a chair, and denied restroom use. Several hours later, she was sent to the hospital.

The police then called her husband at about 6:00 p.m. that day, and told him to take her home. They also told him that Ms. Wu was suffering from a “fatal” disease. At home, Ms. Wu never regained her health, and passed away on March 16, 2013. The details of what happened on the day of her arrest are still unknown.

Ms. Wu Shanglan was a resident of Dongfanghong Village of Shaogang Town in Qingtongxia City, Ningxia Autonomous Region. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Ms. Wu has been arrested, detained, harassed and threatened. She was also locked in an iron chair.

Torture instrument: iron chair

Arrested and Tortured

The police from Yongning County Police Department broke into Ms. Wu's home on August 26, 2006, and arrested her. She was taken to the Yinchuan City Detention Center where she was deprived of sleep while locked in an iron chair for three days straight. Officials at the detention center also forced her to put her fingerprint on the materials that defamed Falun Gong. Li Zhenjiang, the director of the Qingtongxia City Domestic Security Division, then escorted her home on September 19, 2006.

Four years later, Li Zhenjiang and two officers went to Ms. Wu's home on the morning of June 8, 2010, and tried to trick her into going with them, but she managed to escape.

At the time, the officials from the Qingtongxia City 610 Office and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and the police from the Domestic Security Division often monitored, harassed and threatened many local practitioners. They declared that they would take Ms. Wu to a brainwashing center, so she left home to avoid further persecution.

At the end of May 2012, Li Zhenjiang and several officers went to Ms. Wu's home and attempted to take her to the Yinchuan Brainwashing Center. The police harassed her many times in the following days.
