Jiang Zemin, driven by political ambition and other ulterior motives, launched an unprecedented persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, by the police, on July 20, 1999. Horrendous crimes committed by Jiang and his followers angered men and gods. Throughout the long crackdown, Beijing Public Security Bureau, Tiananmen Square Branch has been the vanguard of the evil power. A supposed unit "serving the people" has been reduced to a den of demons for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners.
Tiananmen, magnificent and gorgeous, represents the traditions and culture of the Chinese people. The "people's police love people, and the people's police are loved by the people," as the saying went in the old days. But it is totally different now. The police department, following Jiang's orders, has turned its headquarters into a place for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. Tiananmen Square is filled with police officers, undercover agents, and police vehicles, waiting to make arrests. They frequently cordon off the square searching for practitioners. Once practitioners are found, they will be taken for interrogation to the branch bureau in a small alley on the southeastern corner of the Square. The police will punch, kick, and slap them. They will then be handcuffed and led to a basement room. There may be hundreds of practitioners detained there at times with standing room only. They are not allowed to speak, let alone talk to each other. They are not allowed to have water, or go to the restrooms. Violators will be dragged outside and beaten, put in the burning sun in summer, or doused with cold water in the winter.
The torment is worse for those who refuse to give their names and addresses. The police will put these practitioners in the backyard, which is actually an alley of 10 X 2 meters enclosed by two iron gates. Then, they call one person at a time and lead the practitioner to the basement or a small room on the second floor, where several police will beat this person, often with rubber and electric batons. There will be screaming from the practitioner. The police will not stop until they are exhausted. Once they beat a 30-year-old female practitioner, who was very strong. The police took a break after a round of beating, then started beating her again, then again. She was as pale as a sheet when she returned to the courtyard. She had black lips and trouble breathing. But she still firmly believed that she was not wrong in practicing Falun Dafa. This woman was able to withstand all the pain and never yielded to the force of evil. Fellow practitioners in the alley encouraged her to endure the unendurable. After a while, she regained some strength, and her lips became rosy again. Then, the police called her again and took her into the small room for the fourth time.
A woman, over 60 years old, was also detained in this place. She was a typical, northern woman with pink cheeks, plump body. She was calm and smiley when she was taken there. The police did not spare her. She was unconscious when she was dragged out of that small room.
There are practitioners from all walks of life detained there including old men and women, young men and young mothers with children, workers, farmers, students, clerks, etc. None of them are spared from the cruel physical abuse. The beatings gets worse and worse intending to take lives. One day, a tall policeman, while standing in the alley, said, "So many of them come again; let's just shoot them." Sometimes, screaming and the odor of burning flesh comes from different torture rooms. The hearts of the practitioners in the alley ache upon hearing the screaming. "What is this place?" they would ask. " Is it Zhazi Cave? or Baigong House? Or the Palace of the King of Hell?!" [Translator's note: Zhazi Cave and Baigong House were two of the famous prisons used to jail and torture communists by the Kuomintong government.]
We know that there are only a small group of police officers who are willing to be the torturers for the evil force. We are telling them that they should wake up and stop helping Jiang carry out his suppression; that they should treat the practitioners with kindness, and regain their benevolent, just nature as humans; otherwise, they will be exterminated, body and soul, with indescribable pain.
We also call upon the police with kind hearts and conscience to stand on the side of the Dafa-protecting practitioners, and to stop the atrocity of the evil force; otherwise, extremely horrible endings are awaiting them. The wheel of the new epoch is rolling forward, which shall swipe, crush and wash away all evils!
Note: Unconscionable acts committed by the Tiananmen Square Police Branch:
1. Selling to some local governments the registration lists of practitioners who came to Beijing to appeal for several hundred to several thousand Chinese yuan (Chinese dollars, the monthly salary of an averaged worker in cities of China is about 500 yuan) per list. They withhold information on practitioners' appeals from their superiors, and benefit themselves through the above sale. Here is one example: Luo Haibin, a police officer from the Public Security Bureau of the city of Hengyang stationed in Beijing, called Hengyang 6.10 Office from his cellular phone, informing the office that he purchased certain sheets of registration list for 1,500 yuan per sheet. He picked up a few practitioners from Hengyang from the Tiananmen Square Branch. Later, the practitioners were forced to reimburse the cost for purchase of the registration list.
