PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Re: FALUN DAFA

The Amnesty International Vancouver Collingwood Action Circle 50 have followed with great concern the actions of the People's Republic of China against the practitioners of Falun Dafa. At our regular meeting of December 5, 2000 a motion was passed to express the following concerns:

We believe that the recent and continuing reports of persecution of members of Falun Dafa by the Government of China violates the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention Against Torture which China has signed. Of particular concern are the mounting toll of those who have died in custody, or shortly after on medical parole.

Our concerns are heightened by the escalation of actions to include the detention and reported torture of a Canadian citizen, Kunlun Zhang.

We join Amnesty Intenational Canada's Secretary General (English-speaking branch) in calling for the immediate release of Mr. Zhang, and for the government of China to cease the torture, imprisonment and other politically motivated persecutions of followers of religious and spiritual movements such as Falun Dafa.

Sincerely,

Richard Cook

Chair, Amnesty International Vancouver Collingwood Action Circle A50
