Thursday (April 6, 2000), Congressman Tom Lantos, Co-chair of Human Rights Caucus, chaired a hearing on the issue of violations of religious freedom in China on Capitol Hill. Four US Falun Gong practitioners were invited to testify at the briefing.

At the hearing, Ambassador Robert Seiple of the State Department, Mr. Michael Young, Dean of the Law School at George Washington University, Rabbi David Saperstein, Chairman of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, representatives from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch spoke first on the religious persecution in China, including that of Falun Gong practitioners. Afterwards, Falun Gong spokesperson, Erping Zhang, as well as other 3 US Falun Gong practitioners , spoke respectively and answered related questions.
