CCTV (China Central TV) and Renqiu TV Station:
My name is Yuan Yuge and I have been practicing Falun Gong for more than 2 years. I live in the City of Renqiu, Hebei Province. I want to tell the truth about the stories reported by CCTV-3 and Renqiu TV Station. What they have reported in those stories about Falun Gong and myself were not true. In telling the truth, I think I am also helping to protect the authenticity of our press as well as the image of our country.
Around August 10, 1999, CCTV-3 reported such a story: " Yuan Yuge (from Renqiu, Hebei), had cultivation insanity because of practicing Falun Gong. She was mentally disordered and jumped into the Baima River with her child in her arms" The Truth is: one day in 1998, I rode a bicycle to pick up my 10-year-old son from his school. On our way home, we had to cross a small adobe bridge over a creek of the Baima River. Many kids from the school were on their way home too, so the bridge was pretty crowded. There was no guardrail on the bridge and the brake on my bicycle was not working. In trying to avoid running into the kids, I fell off the bridge to the earth slope below. The bicycle was borrowed from uncle Laohei in my village. At the time there were a lot of people on the scene, including a doctor from Shihu Village Clinic. (The Clinic was only several meters to the north of the bridge.) I hope that our government officials can look into this matter.
It is true that I practice Falun Gong, but I did not have cultivation insanity, nor was I mentally disordered. I fell off the bridge because I wasn't careful. In those distorted reports, this accident was used to cook up a story to defame Falun Gong. This groundless imputation cannot be put on Falun Gong. Our Teacher said in "Zhuan Falun": 'cultivation insanity does not exist whatsoever', and 'Your Main Consciousness Should Predominate'. Our cultivation way cultivates one's Main Consciousness, thus a cultivator must be clear-minded. Those who are mentally disordered cannot practice Falun Gong, and I am not mentally disordered.
Later on, I told the reporter: "Those reports are not true, it is against your professional ethics to do so." He said that he followed orders from his leader, and that he would have lost his bonus otherwise. Maybe our government misunderstood Falun Gong; Maybe they felt too threatened to see so many people practicing Falun Gong. But we can look at it from another perspective: Why are there so many people practicing Falun Gong? Why are there so many people saying "Falun Dafa is good. I want to cultivate Falun Dafa.", knowing that in saying so, they would probably lose their home, their families and even their freedom? The government has made a big mistake in dealing with the Falun Gong issue, and has done a tremendous injustice. I hope the government can conduct a thorough social survey to see what the practitioners have done for their families and the society, how they have used the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" to guide their cultivation processes, and how well they have done their jobs at work and treated everyone around them with kindness. I also hope our government officials can take a look at the book "Zhuan Falun" to see what it is exactly about. Everyone knows his own mind, and I believe that everyone can distinguish between good and bad, right and evil. I hope our government can deal with the Falun Gong issue correctly.
I hope that the CCTV and Renqiu TV Station can correct their unreal reports and thus restore Falun Gongs reputation so as to protect the authenticity and reliability of our press as well as our countrys image.
