Earlier, Mr Hu was greeted by Mr McLeish and Lord Provost Eric Milligan at the Royal Botanic Gardens, where around 30 people from the Falun Gong had gathered.

Falun Gong practitioner Rosemary Katzin said: "Over 70 million people in China followed this exercise and we are outraged they have been prevented from doing this as it harms no one."
