[Huili County, Sichuan Province] Brutal Torture in Police Custody Causes Practitioner Hong Yongyu to Suffer a Mental Breakdown
Hong Yongyu, female, in her forties, lives in Luchang Town of Huili County, Sichuan Province. In August 2001, she went to Yongsheng County in Yunnan Province to visit her relatives and to clarify the truth of Falun Gong. After returning home, she was arrested by Yongsheng County's Police Department. She was detained for one month, and then the police unexpectedly informed her husband to take her back. He found out that she had a mental breakdown due to the severe torture. Her eyes had turned dull and expressionless, and she's unable to recognize even her own family members.
Before being arrested, Hong Yongyu was mentally healthy. After being tortured and suffering a mental breakdown, she was unable to take care of herself, let alone take care of her parents and children.
[Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] "610 Office" Arrests Falun Dafa Practitioners and Detains Them in the Brainwashing Class
Recently, the Jinzhou City "610 Office" [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] arrested more than ten Dafa practitioners and sent them to three sessions of brainwashing class. We only know the names of the following practitioners who have been arrested: Wang Ying (female), Wang Lifeng (female), Ma Zhimin, Liu Zhonglin, and Zhou Hua (female). Three elderly practitioners near the age of 70 were also sent to the brainwashing class.
On the morning of July 15, Zhou Hua was arrested at home by the police hiding there and sent to the brainwashing class. Because she remained determined in not cooperating with the evil, she was sent to the city's No. 1 Detention Center on the same day.
Li Shufen (female) was arrested and sent to the brainwashing class, but she firmly resisted the evil persecution. Facing this imminent test of life and death, she displayed her righteousness and clarified the truth to her captors, moving some of them to tears at one point. She refused the evil brainwashing and walked out of the brainwashing class with righteous thoughts. She is currently forced to go from place to place to avoid further persecution.
On July 15, Dafa practitioner Zhang Hong (female) was visited by the "610 Office" at home. She refused to open the door, so the "610 Office" called in the riot police. Some armed policemen then broke down the door. Zhang Hong jumped out of the window in an attempt to escape and was injured. It's unknown whether Zhang Hong is still alive in police custody. We hope that all practitioners who read this news can send forth righteous thoughts to help her break away from this dangerous situation.

[Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Former Director of Jingmen City's Technical Supervision Bureau Li Jiliang Sentenced to 4 Years of Imprisonment
On the morning of July 17, in Dongbao District Court, Mr. Li Jiliang, a 74-year-old Dafa practitioner and former director of Jingmen City's Technical Supervision Bureau, was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment. Fellow practitioner Huang Zhaoxin was also sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment.
[Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Police Torture Practitioner's Son to Obtain Information
Dafa practitioner Zhou Fengying (female) was arrested while distributing truth-clarifying literature. A person saw her and attempted to extort 500 Yuan from her, but Zhou Fengying refused. As a result, she was reported to the police and arrested. Police ransacked her home, and found Dafa books and truth-clarifying literature. The police interrogated her, but she was determined not to cooperate with the evil. The police then arrested her son, a non-practitioner, and held him in the police station. He was handcuffed and hung up, and then brutally beaten. He revealed the names of several practitioners who had been to his home, and three female practitioners Zhou Ping, Shao Daicui and Lu Keqing were arrested based on this information.
Liu Juxian, a female practitioner who walked out of the detention center a few months ago after going on a hunger strike, is currently being detained in Huyaguan Detention Center.
Police from Ziling Police Station in Jingmen City suspected that Dafa practitioner Yu Shilin was distributing truth-clarifying literature in the countryside. Consequently, Yu Shilin was detained in Yuelianghu Detention Center after being brutally beaten in the police station for two days and nights. His wife was also interrogated by the police.
[Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province] Practitioner Bao Xuequn Sentenced to 1.5 Years in Forced Labor Camp
Recently, officials in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province held another brainwashing session. Bao Xuequn, a female practitioner over 30 years of age who has a 10-year-old daughter, was sentenced to 1.5 years in forced labor camp. She is now being detained in Qiaosi Forced Labor Camp in Hangzhou City.

Unit 1 of No. 4 Team of Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province is a "Strict Discipline Division", where Dafa practitioners have been detained. The police have adopted various cruel means to torture Dafa practitioners both physically and mentally.

[Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Entire Family of Practitioners Subjected to Persecution
On July 9, a retired worker from Kailuan Mineral Bureau in Tangshan City clarified the truth to his colleagues and was sent to the brainwashing class in Tangshan Occupational Textile University by the manager of his work unit. The police later went to ransack this practitioner's home. They found truth-clarifying flyers in the house, so they sent his wife and their 7-year-old granddaughter to the detention center. Previously the practitioner's son had to leave home and go from place to place to avoid being sent to brainwashing class by his work unit for passing out flyers. The police took away the family's valuables including their TV set and fined them 4000 Yuan (8 months salary of an average urban worker in China). The daughter-in-law of the elderly couple was also sent to labor camp for a one-year term because she refused to give up practicing Falun Dafa. The authorities have torn this happy family apart, not even sparing a seven-year-old child.

[Anhui Province] Five Practitioners Arrested
Anhui Dafa practitioners Guo Jinglan (female), Jia Yanhua (female) and Xiao Ming were arrested in June. They are currently being detained in Bozhou City.
Two practitioners Liu Liu (female) and Li Lan (female) from Hefei City were arrested last month. The practitioners are detained in small dark cells, and they are forbidden to wash their faces, brush their teeth or take a bath. Sometimes they are not given enough to eat and not supplied with toilet paper. Some practitioners who went on hunger strikes were force-fed and injured in the process.

On July 15 2002 at 10 am, under the lead of Jiang Haiqun, the head of the security division of Jinzhou Jiutai Medicinal Limited Company, policemen from the Baigu Police Station, Linghe District, Jinzhou City arrested practitioner Wang Ying, a company employee. The police sent Wang to a brainwashing class in the army reserves, leaving Wang's 9-year-old son at home alone.

Practitioner Wang Lin (female) works at Jiutai Medicinal Limited Company in Jingzhou City. She was followed because she distributed Dafa materials. Later she was deceived into going to the security division by Jiang Haiqun. The "610 Office" police then beat her severely and detained her for 26 days. After she went back to the company, the company forced her to accept brainwashing. When she refused to cooperate, the company dismissed her.

Dafa practitioner Xiao Jie (pseudo name) and several other artists accepted an invitation to participate in a performance. She prepared several melodies, and among them was the Dafa song "Pu Du." After they finished the first melody, the audience gave them warm applause and requested another one. Then the band played "Pu Du". After this melody was completed, the audience burst into even louder applause.

Zheng Jumei, over 50 years old, used to suffer from several severe diseases, but she became healthy after obtaining Dafa. In July 1999 she went three times to Beijing to appeal. After the third appeal (mid-December 2000) she was sent to Shayang Forced Labor Camp. Since she did not pass the camp's physical examination, she was sent back to Yidu Detention Center. Because she persists in practicing Dafa, she still has not been released.
[Shayang City, Hubei Province] Shayang Forced Labor Camp Makes Up So-called "Rules" to Persecute Dafa Practitioners
In June 2001 Shayang Labor Camp made up the so-called "Rules for Falun Gong People In Labor Camp." It required "taking an initiative in studying," which means forcing Dafa practitioners to watch the CCTV program "Focal Point Interviews" and other materials that slander Dafa and to attend the profanity-filled brainwashing class "taught" by Tian Ming. They force Dafa practitioners to recite documents issued by Ministry of Public Security, the Civil Administration Ministry, and other state agencies.
