(Clearwisdom.net June 21, 2003) Epochtimes Reporter Li Huazhi reports from Chicago -- The Chinese government has pressured the US government via diplomatic channels to ask the US Federal court to dismiss the genocide lawsuit against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin on the grounds of immunity as head-of-state. By the end of June, the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division judge will rule whether the case will continue to trial. On June 12, about 40 members of the U.S. Congress filed an Amicus brief with a U.S. District Court in Illinois urging the court to proceed with a lawsuit charging former Chinese Communist leader, Jiang Zemin, with genocide, crimes against humanity and other charges. The court accepted the brief of Amicus Curiae filed by members of Congress and will become important document of the court hearing.

The lawsuit brought by Falun Gong practitioners in US and from China has entered a critical time. On June 20, about 2000 Falun Gong practitioners from 30 countries including US, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Europe, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and other countries held a series of activities outside Chicago City Hall at Federal Square outside United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago. The activity included large-scale performances and painting and calligraphy exhibition and demonstration. These two locations are where important government and agencies and courts are located. The varied and colorful artistic performances attracted many government officials and pedestrians to watch.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lina Wu said that today's performances to show the peacefulness of Falun Gong were the first by Falun Gong practitioners in the mid-US region. Their goal is to demonstrate the true beauty of Falun Gong to the people of Chicago and all over the world, and to help people to see through the cruelty of Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Wu said the Federal Square faces United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois. Thompson Center is home to the State Immigration Bureau and other major governmental agencies. Four years ago in June, Falun Gong founder Mr. Li Hongzhi attended the proclamation ceremony that was held at this location in person.
