On the morning of November 6, 2004, about 50 Falun Gong practitioners gathered in front of the Chinese consulate in Melbourne, Australia and called for bringing Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yongkang, the main perpetrators responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong, to justice. This persecution has lasted for five years and is still ongoing.

Batlow, a small country town in Australia's Snowy Mountains, is famous for its lovely mountain scenery and crisp, juicy apples. On October 23, it hosted its first Apple Blossom Festival in many years. A Falun Dafa/Petals of Peace display was organized and practitioners from Canberra and Goulburn traveled there for the day. Many beautiful origami lotus flowers were distributed with a small Falun Dafa flyer folded and tucked into each one. People were very glad to receive this gift. When applying for a stall, the practitioners gave the planning committee some truth-clarification materials, which were warmly received.

Persecution Facts

1. Persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Qingyang City, Gansu Province

Few practitioners in Qingyang City have been spared from having their homes ransacked and being illegally fined. Beatings and torture are also commonplace. Nearly 50 practitioners were sentenced to forced labor. Practitioners Lu Yinxia, Wang Yuxia and Shi Xiqin were sentenced to forced labor for the second time. Practitioners who were unlawfully sentenced to prison include Zhang Rongjuan, who received a 17-year term; Liu Zhirong, 15 years; Xu Feng, 14 ½ years; Guan Qiang, 11 years; Ma Yuling, 6 years; Jiao Lili, 5 years; Zhang Xiumei, 4 years; Li Ruihua, 3 years; Wang Zhihua, 1 ½ years; Gao Lijin, 8 ½ years; Sun Lifang, 4 years; Zhang Jiyu, 2 years, and Jin Yanping, 3 years (to be served outside of prison).

2. Crimes committed by Li Dong, head of Yishui County's 610 Office and Li Jianping, head of Yishui County's National Security Bureau in Shandong Province:

Li Dong, head of the Yishui County 610 Office, is the brother of Li Jianping, Yishui County's National Security Bureau head. Since Li Jianping took office last year, seven Falun Gong practitioners in Yishui County were sent to forced labor camps and another seven practitioners were detained. Since 1999, more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners in Yishui County have been sent to forced labor camps. Practitioners Wang Yongdong and Gao Mei died from torture, and more practitioners were arrested, detained, tortured, and fired from their jobs. The 610 Office and the National Security Bureau are the two main governmental agencies in charge of the persecution, and Li Dong and Li Jianping are the ones most responsible for the persecution in Yishui County.

3. Persecution at the Baoding Prison, Hebei Province

Between July and September 2002, Wang Yuhai, instructor at Division 3 at the Baoding Prison, ordered inmate Yan Jun, imprisoned for murder and a former employee from the Shengli Oil Field in Qingdao City, to beat and torture Falun Gong practitioner Ke Xingguo from Beijing. He tied Ke Xingguo up and inserted a feeding tube into his stomach through his nose and left it there for a long time. He also did not allow Ke Xingguo to sleep.

Between September and October 2003, guard Wang Yuhai handcuffed and shackled practitioner Zhang Lingjiang from Shijiazhuang City. He detained practitioner Mr. Zhang Lingjiang in a solitary confinement cell and did not allow him to sleep. Later, he forced Zhang Lingjiang to sit on a two-inch-wide stool for eight days.

4. Persecution at the No.1 Guangzhou City Forced Labor Camp

Li Guoming, an instructor at Division 2 of the No.1 Forced Labor Camp in Guangzhou City, did not allow practitioners to sleep and ordered the inmates to torture the practitioners. He often attacked and slandered Falun Gong and the practitioners at group gatherings and at morning exercises. He deceived the inmates with lies and encouraged them to torture Falun Gong practitioners. His police number is 4416044. The first two digits, 44, stand for Guangdong Province; 16 stands for the No.1 Forced Labor Camp, and 044 is his number. Other guards, Zhou Jianhong, He Guichao, Bi Dejun, Hong Yuanpeng, Chen Fumin, Lu Weimin and Wu Xinhe, have also persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
