Persecution Facts

Since March 8, 2004, the Changsha City Laodaohe Brainwashing Center has started holding brainwashing classes again. As of July 8, 2004, lawless personnel have abducted ten Falun Dafa practitioners and forced them to attend these classes. The practitioners include Ren Liyun, Zhang Guoying, Zhou Feiyan, Zhou Aichun, Zhou Yunfei, Xiong Hongyu, Tang Min, Zeng Wen, Jiang Shanglian and Ma Xuan'e. These practitioners were deprived of their personal freedom at this center, in violation of the Chinese Constitution, and were compelled to watch video programs slandering Falun Dafa. There were threats against them, such as being sentenced to forced labor and "reeducation." In the brainwashing class, practitioners were forced to stand for a long period of time and were deprived of sleep at night. The perpetrators were the "610 Office" (1) personnel. These corrupt people even extorted a great amount of money from the practitioners, ostensibly "to pay for the brainwashing classes."

Falun Dafa practitioner Tang Min was sent to a mental hospital for resisting the persecution and Jiang Shanglian was locked up in a small cell and beaten for the same reason. Moreover, the "610 Office" personnel used collaborators (2) to try to brainwash Falun Dafa practitioners.

Ms. Xing Yuzhen is 43 years old and a schoolteacher at the Sixth Middle School of Daqing City. Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999 she has gone to Beijing to validate Dafa three times, but she has been illegally arrested five times. So far, Ms. Xing has accumulated over 800 days of detention. She suffered persecution at Harbin City's Drug Control Center, where she went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention and was on the brink of death. Ms. Xing is now hospitalized.

In January 2000, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Zhi from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province wrote a letter to her district government to ask that Falun Dafa's good name be restored. The police and people from the "610 Office" then ransacked her home and sentenced her to a year of forced labor, in violation of the Chinese constitution. She suffered all manner of humiliation, torment and torture in the Jiamusi City Forced Labor Camp. Additionally, she was forced to attend brainwashing classes, which resulted in great mental torment. In July 2003, police from the Wumahe District and the "610 Office" ransacked her home once more and abducted her again. They tortured her by forcing her to sit on a metal chair for eight consecutive days and nights and savagely beat her. She lost her teeth as a result of the beatings. The authorities did not let her sleep for over ten days and nights. When Ms. Sun Zhi went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution, they cruelly force-fed her. They forced her to run under the burning sun, and otherwise tortured her to the brink of death. When Ms. Sun Zhi had been unlawfully detained for almost half a year, they sentenced her to another two years of forced labor. Sun Zhi is now being detained at the Harbin City Drug Control Center.

My name is Wang Yumei. I'm 36 years old. I'm from Qinjiatun, Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province. I live in Hanpaozi Village. Because I fulfilled my rights as a citizen to appeal for Falun Gong, I have suffered barbaric persecution during the past four years. I have been illegally detained and have carried out hunger strikes; I have been injected with unknown drugs and have been force-fed. These resulted in my showing symptoms of heart disease and other illnesses. I have been illegally sentenced to forced labor twice, and have suffered inhumane torment, both mentally and physically.

During the morning of July 21, 2004, the Liangjiashan Township Police Station chief from Shulan City, Jilin Province abducted Falun Dafa practitioner Wang Youhua and transported the practitioner to the Shulan City Detention Center. It is reported that Wang Youhua has not eaten anything for at least eight days and is extremely weak.

Feng Junxia, 40 years old, is from Shenyinzhuang Village, Chengguan Town, Guan County, Shandong Province. Another Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Song Guizhi, is 57 years old. Because of practicing Falun Dafa, they were illegally detained, had money extorted from them and were sent to a brainwashing center several times. Feng Junxia's health is very bad as a result of the persecution, and Ms. Song Guizhi was diagnosed as suffering from high blood pressure for the same reason.

Between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on July 20, 2004, police from Longkou City, Shandong Province arrested a Falun Gong practitioner couple, Ms. Tang Ping and Mr. Jiang Xunliang in Penglai City, Shandong Province. They are now being held at a detention center.

News and Activities from Around the World

The Freedom House Center of Freedom of Belief issued an announcement in Washington, D.C. on July 29, 2004, calling on the American delegation going to the APEC meeting in Singapore to urge the Chinese government that the Chinese people be given sufficient freedom of belief. The announcement specifically addressed the persecution of Falun Gong, but also addressed the Chinese government's blockade of Internet access related to Falun Gong, to family churches, mainstream religions and Catholic organizations, including those related to the Vatican.

(1) The "610 Office" is an agency specifically established to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
