To the editor:

The Chinese leader, Hu Jintao, received a well-deserved lesson in free expression at the White House when a woman burst out with impassionate cries for justice, "President Bush, stop him from killing! President Bush, stop them from persecuting Falun Gong!"

Dr. Wenyi Wang, a New York pathologist holding a Ph.D from University of Chicago and a mother of two, deserves a Kennedy's Profile in Courage award for her bravery. We learned that the barbaric organ harvesting atrocities in Chinese laogai camps had motivated her to action.

Her outcry couldn't have come at a better time. According to human rights organizations, witnesses and media reports, there are over 36 laogai camps in China that harvest and sell organs for profit. This is a disgustingly lucrative business. A kidney transplant nets $62,000 and a heart operation can bag $170,000. Over the past five years, Falun Gong practitioners alone have been killed in the thousands for their organs.

I applaud Congressman Dana Rohrbacher and 80 other lawmakers who sent a letter to President Bush, requesting an explanation from Mr. Hu and an immediate, third-party investigation of the death camps.

But more must be done. Let us join Dr. Wang and demand an abolishment of these 21st century Auschwitz camps.
