Kasia was with her sister Patricia Lis at the Civic Opera House

Chicago's Civic Opera House was honored to host Shen Yun's performance that shares thousands of years of Chinese history. Among the audience members was Kasia Lis with her sister, Patricia Lis. Kasia Lis, a Polish dancer for 15 years, said Shen Yun was "very different."

"It was incredible--it was very colorful, so beautiful. It was very different from what we're used to," she said.

Both sisters dance with the award-winning WICI Song and Dance Company organized in 1972 in Chicago to promote Polish authentic traditional culture to the American people.

"Yes. So we've been dancing Polish dances for 15 years. It's traditional, but it's completely different. So the [Chinese] culture was very interesting to see and it was just very beautiful--I liked them a lot."

Kasia Lis was astonished by the cutting edge backdrop. "I really liked the backdrops and just how they moved and how they would be flying through the air on the screen and they would come out live [on stage]--that was very clever. I liked it a lot."

She also commented on the impressive skill of the dancers saying: "I can't even imagine how long they have to practice. We only practice twice a week and that's ridiculous, but they're amazing."

Her younger sister, Patricia, who has danced for 13 years, also praised Shen Yun.

"Yes, I thought it was great, it was really good--definitely not what I'm used to--everything was just amazing."

Over the years, WICI has performed at different local, city, and state events, as well as in Europe. In the process, it has been the recipient of numerous prominent honors, most recently the First Place Award at the 2006 Krakowiak Festival in Krakow, Poland.
