Minnesota Talk Show Host Appreciates China's Classical Culture Through Shen Yun: 'Such an Amazing Culture, Such Amazing People'

(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yen Performing Arts returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday evening, April 14 and was met with thunderous applause by a highly appreciative audience. "I think it is unbelievable," Ms. Corbin Seitz, a local TV talk show host, said after experiencing the performance at the elegant Northrop Memorial Auditorium. "The color is amazing, the technique is beautiful, all the dancers are so athletic, besides being so graceful."

Ms. Seitz and her husband, Doug Tenpas, a product designer, brought their 12-year-old daughter and her friend, both of whom study Chinese, and they expressed their appreciation after seeing classical China's five-millennia-old culture and its universal values.

Mr. Tenpas appreciated the high caliber of the dancing. "The exactness of the routines is amazing," he said.

Two dances in the performance tell contemporary stories about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China, Nothing Can Block the Divine Path and Astounding Conviction.

Ms. Seitz was saddened to hear that Shen Yun cannot travel to China. She was moved by the power of the vignettes that show contemporary issues in China, "it's kind of hard to watch, it was so gracefully done, but it is a story that needs to be told--it was tough to watch it."

She appreciated the juxtaposition of the grace and beauty of the dance with "the brutality of that message was very sad."

The couple were planning to discuss with their daughter the freedoms enjoyed in America, which are not available in mainland China. The idea of repression is something foreign to the youngsters.

After seeing traditional Chinese culture showcased through the performances, Ms. Seitz was full of praise for the Chinese people. "It's such an amazing culture and such amazing people," she said, hoping the children would pick up some of that in watching the show, especially their language skills.

"We were hoping our daughter would pick up a word because even though they have been studying it for a long time [seven years], it's such a difficult language, and I just thought it's fun to be able to hear it [in Chinese] and to hear it in English too, so I like it."

When asked if the couple would attend again, Mr. Tenpas said: "Oh absolutely. I would imagine that you would catch a lot of things you missed the first time."

Mr. Tenpas said he would recommend the show to others. "Oh absolutely. Oh absolutely! I think you would just have to say, 'Just trust me, and go see it because you won't see anything like this.' I don't know really how to describe this," he said.
