(Minghui.org) Ms. Xia Haizhen and Mr. Luo Jiaolong, Falun Gong practitioners from the Baoshan District in Shanghai, have been imprisoned for over six months. The Baoshan District Court deceived them in order to get evidence and scheduled a hearing for November 28, 2012, at 9 a.m. The Baoshan District Court attempted to try them secretly on October 11, 2012. Their families learned on October 10, 2012, that the hearing was scheduled for the next day. The hearing was postponed after their families presented reasonable arguments in their favor. The court also created many difficulties for the defending attorneys.

On April 23, 2012, Mr. Luo and Ms. Xia from Dahua in the Baoshan District were arrested by officers from the Baoshan District Domestic Security Division. The officers seized their keys and searched their homes without a search warrant. They claimed that they confiscated Shen Yun DVDs and charged them with giving three of them away.

The Baoshan District Domestic Security Division reportedly used deceptive tactics to deal with Ms. Xia and Mr. Luo before the hearing. They continued to detain and persecute the two because they didn't have enough evidence to hold a trial. The Baoshan District Domestic Security Division trapped them into “confessing” and used illegal methods to get their confessions to “agree.” First, they deceived Ms. Xia. They told her if she would agree to accept responsibility, they would release Mr. Luo. Ms. Xia agreed against her conscience. Then they interrogated Ms. Xia and Mr. Luo together at the Baoshan District Detention Center to get their confessions to tally and used this testimony to authorize their arrests.

During the six months that Mr. Luo and Ms. Xia were imprisoned, their families had no information about them. How could it be considered a crime to possess Shen Yun DVDs that revive traditional Chinese culture? Their families couldn't accept such logic.

Both families hired lawyers to defend the legal rights of their family members. The lawyers took their cases on October 10, 2012, and learned that a hearing was scheduled for the next day. Neither family had been notified. Ms. Xia and Mr. Luo would have been secretly sentenced if the families hadn't hired attorneys. Xu Minfang, the judge at the Baoshan District Court, agreed to cancel the hearing after the two families presented reasonable arguments. The families demanded justice for Ms. Xia and Mr. Luo.

Mr. Luo, 37, was a graduate student at Jiaotong University in Shanghai in 1998. After the persecution began in July 1999, he was sent to a forced labor camp for one and a half years. He was unable to complete his master's degree. He was working for a foreign company in Shanghai when he was arrested on April 23, 2012.

Ms. Xia lost her left eye when she was young and was considered disabled. She lived by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance after she began practicing Falun Gong. She had a happy family, and she had good relationships with her neighbors. Her belief in Falun Gong and the truth didn't alter after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began the persecution. She was persecuted many times. In July 2004 she was put in solitary confinement, handcuffed, and suffered other forms of torture at Songjiang Women's Prison in Shanghai. The prison guards provoked her husband into divorcing her. She had no where to go and was homeless when she was released. She stayed at other peoples' homes.
