(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Shaoqing, a former elementary school teacher in Zhanjiang City, has been repeatedly persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for her belief in Falun Dafa. Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she was again arrested by the Zhanjiang 610 Office and sentenced to five years in prison. She became so emaciated that her bones protruded and she became disabled after being force-fed unknown drugs.

Ms. Chen, a healthy and capable person, became disabled as a result of the CCP policy of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Police officers battered her feet with stones. They handcuffed her and hung her for a long period of time so that her feet swelled and she was paralyzed. Ms. Chen's loved ones were also implicated by the CCP, and her husband was forced to divorce her.

Ms. Chen said, “Before July 20, 1999, I had a job and a family and lived a normal life. Since July 20, 1999, because of my belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I have been persecuted for 13 years. I was fired from my job, and my family was torn apart. My livelihood was endangered, and I was pressured to give up my faith.

“During the past 13 years, I have been repeatedly harassed, detained, and imprisoned by the Communist authorities. While being held in a brainwashing center, forced labor camp, or prison, I encountered many forms of persecution, such as long-term psychological torture, deprivation of sleep and use of shower, long-term squatting, brainwashing, handcuffing to a railing, having cold water poured over me in the winter, beatings, cursing, etc.”

Tortured in Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp

On March 12, 2003, Ms. Chen was arrested. The following day, she was sentenced by the Communist authorities to serve three years in Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp of Guangdong Province, where she was severely tortured both physically and psychologically.

She was held in solitary in a clinic, where she was monitored by three police officers who took turns watching her. She was denied bathroom use and sleep and was forced to squat 24 hours a day. When she refused to cooperate, the officers punched her and pounded her back with their elbows, causing severe bruising. When a prison guard saw this happening, he said, “Do what you have to do. I'm not going to report anything.” Tang Guangli, captain of the labor camp, ordered the officers to threaten her with electric batons. During the daytime, officers would force her to watch TV programs that defamed Falun Gong. At night, they used loudspeakers to broadcast programs that slandered Falun Gong. When Ms. Chen got tired, officers would order inmates to pinch her nostrils or pull up her eyelids. The inmates sometimes stretched her legs apart as far as they would go or poured cold water over her head so her clothes got wet. During the SARS epidemic in 2003, Ms. Chen was transferred to a brigade that was especially designed to torture Falun Gong practitioners. While there, she was forced to do slave labor during the daytime and sent to a brainwashing center to write “thought reports” at night. Because Ms. Chen didn't cooperate, the officers ordered three inmates to drag her to the first floor from the second floor and all the way to the “educational” building located 300 meters away. One day, the inmates rolled her down to the first floor from the second floor, injuring her feet and her head.

In March 2004, because Ms. Chen boycotted the brainwashing center, she was taken to the “strictly- monitored room.” There, she went on a hunger strike for 30 days until she was as thin as a stick and couldn't walk. The officers transferred her back to the original unit, where she was kept in the kitchen and monitored by two inmates 24 hours a day.

In February 2005, Ms. Chen again went on a hunger strike to protest the endless persecution. After 140 days, her weight dropped from 100 lbs to about 70 lbs. Her bones were barely covered by her skin, and her feet were atrophying. Her condition was critical. Afraid of having to take responsibility, the labor camp authorities asked the head of the 610 Office to send her home.

Burned by Hot Water in a “Legal Affairs School”

After Ms. Chen returned home, the head of the 610 Office went repeatedly to her house and workplace to harass her and her family.

On March 9, 2007, at about 8 p.m., Sun Kangqiong and You Lanying, heads of the Mazhang District 610 Office in Zhanjiang City, along with several police officers and police cars, broke into Ms. Chen's house and arrested her for not having written a so-called Guarantee Statement. She was taken to the “Legal Affairs School of Zhanjiang City” (actually a brainwashing center) and detained alone in a room less than two square meters in size. She was not allowed to leave the room for any reason. The room had a metal gate and window, a loudspeaker, and a surveillance camera. Every day, the “teachers” or “principals” would go to her room and “talk” to her, or use the loudspeaker to bother her in order to break her will. One day, Ms. Chen knocked at the door to protest the unreasonable treatment. Wang Jianjun, the principal, ordered the guard to put her in a dark room with no window. On another day, Ms. Chen knocked at the door to protest the loud sound coming from the speaker. Fu Shaoqun punched her on the temple, and she collapsed. Fu then poured hot water on the floor to burn her. She was soaked with hot water, and her face swelled. As a result, she was unable to eat. She had to use her hands to pull herself around. On April 22, Chen Jun, director of the Zhanjiang 610 Office, afraid that Ms. Chen's family would find out about how she was being mistreated, transferred her to the Sanshui Legal Affairs Institute, where the persecution continued. On April 30, seeing that Ms. Chen's health had deteriorated even further and that she was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer, Chen Jun released her.

Arrested Again and Tortured to Disability

After Ms. Chen was released, she continued to practice Falun Gong. Within a short time, she had fully recuperated. On July 26, 2008, Ms. Chen was again arrested. Her computers, other equipment, and cash were confiscated. Ms. Chen was taken to the Second Detention Center of Zhanjiang. Her loved ones and friends were denied visiting privileges. In May 2008, when Ms. Chen's friends went to see her, she had to be carried. She looked like a skeleton and was feeble. Her eyes were tightly closed, and she couldn't say anything. She seemed mentally incapacitated. Her lower extremities appeared to have curled up, and she was unable to move. She was in critical condition.

While other inmates were allowed to spend 150 to 200 yuan on personal necessities, Ms. Chen was only allowed to spend about 50 yuan. Two inmates watched her constantly and denied her any contact with others.

Ms. Chen Shaoqing said, “Five years ago (in 2008), I was held in Mazhang Detention Center by the Domestic Security Division. I was beaten and cursed by Fu, head of the brainwashing center in Zhanjiang City. He dragged me to the water faucet and force-fed me with a water pipe. He only stopped after I was in a state of shock. I was also force-fed with unknown drugs, causing paralysis in my feet.”

The CCP also mobilized the local public security bureau of Zhanjiang and the judiciary system to sentence Ms. Chen to five years in prison. She was sent to the Guangdong Women's Prison. At that time, Ms. Chen weighed only 30 kilograms, and her legs were paralyzed. Guangdong Women's Prison accepted her, although, according to the prison rules and regulations, they should not have.

The fourth supervisory unit of Guangdong Women's Prison specializes in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners who believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Ms. Chen was detained in a small cell and forced to listen to CDs and read books that slandered Falun Gong. Inmates were ordered to put pressure on her legs every day and use different means of torture to pressure her to write the Three Statements to renounce her faith. When she refused to cooperate, they deprived her of sleep. Ms. Chen was forced to sit on a small bench for an extended period of time and was continually attacked and verbally abused. The prison police restrained themselves a bit only after they learned that the Judicial Hospital of Guangdong Province had diagnosed her with “functional disorder of the legs, lumbar disk herniations, and hyperostosis.”
