Newly Appointed County Official Responsible for Intensified Local Persecution

(Minghui.org) Since Deng Yungeng was appointed secretary of the Legal and Political Committee in Qidong County, Hunan Province, he has been sparing no efforts in harassing and arresting local Falun Gong practitioners.

Deng ordered a round of arrests on April 8, 2014, with police ransacking homes and confiscating personal belonging from innocent residents whose only “crime” was their practice of Falun Gong.

The exact number of practitioners arrested remains to be investigated, but three practitioners were confirmed to have had their homes ransacked on May 22, 2014. They are Deng Shunhua (邓顺华), Li Yingchun (李迎春), and Li Baojin (李宝金).

The local procuratorate issued the three practitioners' arrest warrants in August. They remain incarcerated at the Qidong County Detention Center.

The police confiscated numerous personal belongings, including Falun Gong books, copies of Minghui Weekly, MP3 players, cell phones, and cash. When family members of the three practitioners requested their cash back, they were told that the money had been spent on the police officers' food.

Ms. Li Yingchun is the main caregiver in her family. Now with her in police custody, her husband had to quit his job to take care of his father, who is in his 80's, and their mentally disabled son.

Ms. Li Baojin also has a disabled son, who now has to be taken care of by her brother.
