(Minghui.org) Brainwashing centers in China are officially named “legal or law education schools” or “legal or law education centers” to deceive the public. They are not government agencies, but Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organs.

They are also not legitimate schools approved by the Chinese Education Department. In short, they are illegal organizations under the direct control of the CCP's Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) and the 610 Office. They were set up to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

The “Legal Education Schools/Centers” in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province are such examples. The Jixian County Detention Center has put up an additional sign reading “legal education center” at the gate. Another location is in the residential building across from the Xinxing Plaza in Shuangyashan. These places are staffed with employees trained in mental torture and equipped with devices used for physical torture to "transform" Falun Gong practitioners.

The places are closed off to and isolated from the outside world, in order to create a threatening environment to pressure practitioners to abandon their beliefs. Such a setting usually allows 610 Office personnel to do harm as they please.

Practitioners are forced to watch videos and television programs, and read books that slander Falun Gong. They then have to talk about their “understanding” of the materials. They will not be released until they have written a repentance statement and their non-practitioner status is confirmed by the 610 Office.

Ms. Qiu Guoxiang's Case at the Jixian County Detention Center

Ms. Qiu Guoxiang, a nurse at the Shuangyashan City Mining Bureau General Hospital, was arrested at work on September 9, 2013. Ren Huaiguang, head of the political department of the hospital, had twice ordered Ms. Qiu write a repentance statement, but failed.

Ms. Qiu was taken to the “Law Education Center” in the Jixian County Detention Center. She was held in a room with four beds. There were instructions in the room, detailing the schedule she had to follow and a note saying that she had to "transform." An office on the second floor was dedicated to monitoring the surveillance camera in her room.

Liu Zhichao from the Shuangyashan 610 Office interrogated her, warning her that she would be sentenced to prison if she did not abandon her belief. She was forced to watch a video that slandered Falun Gong in the morning. In the afternoon she had to write her “understanding” of what she had learned from the video, as well as a repentance statement.

Gu Songhai from the Heilongjiang Province 610 Office was called in to interrogate her on September 27, 2013, but he couldn't get her to cooperate, so the Shuangyashan 610 Office personnel threatened to turn her over to the police.

People from the Shuangyashan Domestic Security Division tried to ransack Ms. Qiu's home on September 27, but were unable to get inside.

Two days later Liu broke into her home and ransacked it without a search and seizure warrant. He confiscated two Falun Gong books, four copies of Minghui Weekly and two calendars.

Back at the center, Du Zhanyi and Zhang from the Shuangyashan Domestic Security Division interrogated her and threatened further punitive measures.

Additionally, Zhao Jingtao, director of the Suangyashan 610 office, met Ms. Qiu in the center and ordered her to submit two repentance statements weekly and to persuade other practitioners to renounce Falun Gong after her release. Her family was forced to write guarantee statements to not let her practice Falun Gong. Her husband had to spend thousands of yuan to buy dinners for the CCP officials so that his wife would be released.

After her release on October 10, 2013, Ms. Qiu had lost five kilograms, had a constant headache, and was very pale.

Another day, Wu Hua told Ms. Qi's daughter to come to the station to pick up her mother's cell phone and bags. When her son-in-law went instead, he was told to pay 1,000 yuan, or his mother-in-law would not be released. Nothing was returned to him.

Ms. Qi was forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong and to write her “understanding” of what she had seen and a repentance statement.

The former provincial drug rehabilitation center team leader Shi Shuai (female) and a man were brought in to brainwash Ms. Qi.

Liu Zhichao, a brainwashing center employee, verbally abused Ms. Qi. He demanded that Jiusan Village in Jixian County pay 10,000 yuan for “transforming” her. The village refused, but had to agree to provide two people to monitor Ms. Qi around the clock. They had to pay 200 yuan per person per day.

Ms. Qi was released on November 25, 2013.
