(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Shiyuan was recently detained at the Changshu Detention Center in Jiangsu Province. He went on a hunger strike on February 9, 2014. His mother and sister were denied visitation and are worried about his condition, as they are unable to find out if he is still on a hunger strike.

Mr. Wang Shiyuan, 41, is from Hongtong County in Shanxi Province. He was previously detained in the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin, Gangbei Prison in Tianjin, and Xindian Forced Labor Camp in Shanxi Province. His PhD degree from Nankai University was rescinded because he practices Falun Gong.
Mr. Wang's mother is eighty years old. She is under great stress because her son is being persecuted. Mr. Wang's sister has to support the family and look after their mother.
The following is some of the persecution Mr. Wang suffered.
27 Barrels of Cold Water
Mr. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and he was illegally arrested in October 2000. The police stripped off his clothes and poured 27 barrels of cold water on him. Mr. Wang was sentenced to two years in prison and taken to the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp.

Beaten with Pick Ax Handles
Mr. Wang's sentence ended in July 2001. The labor camp extended his term another year because he persisted in his belief in Falun Gong.
Guard Shi Yuan took Mr. Wang to a cell in October 2001 and demanded he give up his belief. When Mr. Wang refused, Shi beat him with a pick ax handle for more than ten minutes. When the handle broke he grabbed another one and continued to beat Mr. Wang.
Mr. Wang's bottom was black and blue from the beating and he lost consciousness. He could not walk properly after the beating.
Tortured with Electric Batons
Mr. Wang was transferred to another ward which always persecuted practitioners in groups. The practitioners were mentally tortured by being forced to listen to audio recordings that slandered Falun Gong for an entire day.
Practitioners were once deprived of sleep, and monitored by other prisoners. They were forced to stay awake until 3:00 a.m., and were awakened again at 5:00 a.m.
Some practitioners held hunger strikes to protest the persecution. The guards used electric batons to shock Mr. Wang until the batons ran out of power.

Mr. Wang was detained in a small cell. He was forced to smoke chili power and stand for a long time, which caused his legs to swell.
By March 2002 Mr. Wang Shiyuan had been on a hunger strike for more than six months. He was extremely weak and his life was in danger. He was released and sent back to his hometown in Shanxi Province.
Sentenced to Another Three Years
On March 20, 2002, Falun Gong materials were found in the Jiaohua Factory. The police went to Mr. Wang's home after midnight and ransacked it. Mr. Wang was arrested and sent to the Xindian Forced Labor Camp in Shanxi Province for three years.
