(Minghui.org) Authorities in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province have been harassing and arresting local Falun Gong practitioners since September 15 for their lawsuits against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist regime.

At least 13 practitioners are known to be held in a detention center, and tortured. In particular, Ms. Zhong Weiling was reduced to just skin and bones within five weeks of detention.

School Teacher in Precarious Condition

Ms. Zhong Weiling, a 58-year-old school teacher in Lianyungang City, had her home surrounded by police officers twice on September 15, and was again harassed twice during that night. The officers came back day after day, so Ms. Zhong and her husband, Mr. Gao Chuanbin, left their home and went into hiding in the countryside.

Ms. Zhong was arrested at Lizhuang Town market on November 15, and taken to Lianyungang City Detention Center in the afternoon.

The officers ransacked her home twice, yet found no evidence to charge her. They framed her and got the Ganyu District Prosecutor's Office to approve her arrest warrant on November 27.

She was tortured during the five weeks of detention, reduced to just skin and bones, and unable to talk or walk well. Her blank stare draws concern that she may have suffered a mental collapse or brain damage.

Family History of Detention and Torture

Ms. Zhong and her family have been living in constant fear during the past 16 years of the persecution. Many times they had to live away from home to avoid further arrests. Ms. Zhang's and her husband's incomes were suspended, making their life even harder.

Mr. Gao, Ms. Zhao's husband, who had made outstanding contributions to the army, was arrested many times for his belief in Falun Gong. He was given forced labor and prison terms. His allowances for being a deputy battalion cadre and having served for 17 years in the Chinese military was suspended at retirement.

Ms. Zhao said in her complaint, “I was given two years of forced labor at the Judong Forced Labor Camp in June 2001. My disabled mother was unattended at home and died of hunger. My second son Gao Shuguang had to drop out of school because of financial difficulty. As a result, he never got a chance to go to college. He is now in his 30s and has lived on the streets for many years, How can Jiang Zemin not accept the responsibility for causing our family tragedy?”

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
