(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Li, a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, was secretly sentenced to five years in prison in November 2015 for suing Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese communist regime.

According to Ms. Liu's family, the Shuangcheng District Court tried Ms. Liu and three other practitioners--Mr. Cao Qicai, Ms. Wang Wenjuan, Ms. Gao Huiling--on November 19, 2015. It was not until the practitioners' lawyers contacted the court on November 20 that they found out about the trial that took place the day before.

All four practitioners' family members and their lawyers were kept in the dark regarding when their cases were submitted to the procuratorate and when the practitioners were to be tried.

Mr. Cao's lawyer was informed on December 18, 2015, that his client was sentenced to four years in prison. But Ms. Liu's was not given any information by the court.

Ms. Liu's son found out from a court official on December 25 that his mother had been sentenced to five years in prison.

Ms. Liu, who is currently detained at Harbin No. 2 Detention Center, has appealed the sentence.

Sentenced for Filing Criminal Complaint against Jiang Zemin

A wave of criminal complaints against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution against Falun Gong has been on the rise around the globe since the end of May 2015. More than 200,000 Falun Gong practitioners who suffered repeated arrests, sentencing, and torture for their belief have filed the lawsuits.

After filing the complaints, however, many practitioners were harassed, arrested and sentenced by the police in China.

More than 70 practitioners in Harbin who filed the complaints were arrested, including Ms. Liu and the three other practitioners, between July 11 and 23, 2015.

Ms. Liu was arrested on the evening of July 21. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her computer, Falun Gong books and more than 1,000 yuan. Ms. Liu was arrested at her neighbor's home and taken to the Harbin Detention Center.

According to her family, who visited her several days later at the detention center, her arms were covered with bruises that resulted from the police obtaining her fingerprints by force.

After the 15-day detention limit, without filing any valid charges, the police transferred Ms. Liu to the Harbin No. 2 Detention Center on August 6 and have held her there since.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
