Overcoming Fear

(Minghui.org) Many practitioners considered “Fa Teaching at the 2015 West Coast Fa Conference” another stick warning from compassionate Master reminding us to be diligent.

Master said:

“What’s going to become of you practitioners who haven’t done well? You all like to see me smile at you, but you should know that I do that to encourage you and express my hopes for you. Given how time is so extremely pressing, have you thought about what’s going to become of those who haven’t cultivated well? Some people still have a chance, but some no longer do. For some there is still time left, and for some their only hope is to sprint. But if the person hasn’t laid an adequate foundation, and if the person’s understanding of the Fa is limited, how could he have the drive to persist? Have you been diligent? If you haven’t laid a solid foundation that’s built on the Fa, you won’t be able to do that. That kind of determination and firm sense of conviction come from the Fa. Time is pressing, so I don’t want to just say pleasant things; I’ve already said many words of encouragement. (Master nods, pauses, and then scans the conference hall.) If many people indeed have fallen behind, or can’t keep up—and I’m referring to Dafa disciples—then really nothing could be sadder to see.” (“Fa Teaching at the 2015 West Coast Fa Conference”)

Letting Go of Fear

Many practitioners have cultivated very well and remained diligent with a clear understanding of the Fa. Some still have numerous human attachments such as fear.

One example is their hesitation to sue Jiang Zemin for persecuting Falun Gong. They have studied the Fa for many years. But without a deep understanding and solid xinxing improvement, they did not have full faith in Master and the Fa. That is, they still have attachments to fame, personal interest, and sentimentality (qing).

A practitioner's attitude towards suing Jiang reflects his or her xinxing level. Master said, “And there are others who are simply afraid, and that is also dictated by where the person’s cultivation stands.” (“Fa Teaching at the 2015 West Coast Fa Conference”)

We can also learn a lot from ancient cultivation stories. One example is Zhao Sheng, whose teacher tested him with sentimentality, lust, self interest, and fear. Even with fear alone, he was tested with a tiger and the renowned story of peach-picking.

Zhao's experience was typical, because one needs to remain diligent in cultivation and faithful to one's teacher, regardless of the difficulties. For us Dafa disciples, we should do things that Master has asked us to do. This includes cultivating well, saving people, and suing Jiang Zemin. Because we know Master is looking after us, there will be no real danger.

My Experiences

In 2001 when the persecution was very severe, several practitioners that I worked with were fired. My salary took a big hit, to only about 200 yuan (about 24 dollars) per month. Despite the risk, I went to the Party secretary at work and told him the facts about Falun Gong. I had no fear and did not mention my salary reduction. As a result, he called the human resources department in front of me and told them to restore my salary.

Another time I went to the countryside to put up banners about Falun Gong. On my way home at 11 p.m., my bike had a flat tire. I still had several miles to go and was wondering what to do, when I suddenly found myself in the city in front of a bicycle repair shop. My tire was fixed, and I had no problem getting home.

Master wrote,

“If you truly follow the righteous way in cultivation practice, nobody will dare to do something to you at will. Besides, you have the protection of my fashen, and you will not be in any danger.” (Lecture Two, Zhuan Falun)
